CELEBRITY

Widely known for her raw, natural and realistic portrayals of the many characters she’s played,

Asma Abulyazeid is a talent on the rise. Now famous for her parts on El Anesa Farah, El Ekhtiar and Hatha

Al Masaa, the multi-talented Abulyazeid has also appeared in many big movies, and has a great

singing voice! See what the actress has to say about her journey, past, present and future.

Åßmå Åbülÿåzëïd

A Natural Talent: Actress

Captures Hearts& Minds

What are you excited about the most in the 4th season of El Anesa Farah?

I’m generally excited about Farah coming back and all the new events. The audience can expect many new surprises.

Farah will have new experiences and will face many challenges and unanswered questions. Farah will not only

be questioning her partners but also her life decisions.

What do you love the most about Farah? Do you relate to her character in any way?

Farah is a very compassionate and intelligent girl. She loves her family and she is very ambitious. Farah and I are similar in how we both don’t like surprises; we both get nervous easily and we both really love our families. But

we’re different in one thing, she likes to plan and organize everything in her life when I’m a bit less systematic. I don’t like to make a plan, but I can create a wide frame for how I

want things to be and leave the rest to God.

If you were put in the same position as Farah, how would you have handled it?

In which position exactly? Having to decide between Shady and Tarek? Or that she’s pregnant with a baby that she didn’t even plan for? Or that at this age, she suddenly

found out that Maged El Alfy is her father after years of not knowing? Farah has many situations!

Which one of these situations do you believe is the hardest to be in?

Her decision to keep the baby is the hardest I believe. I don’t know whether to categorize it as a brave or an

impulsive decision, but if I were in her position, I wouldn’t do the same. I wouldn’t keep a baby that I wasn’t even

planning for and is not the result of love but the result of an accident or a coincidence.

Which one of your roles has been your favorite? They are all my children and I love them all. If I didn’t love a

role I wouldn’t have been able to do it.

Tell us about how you started singing. While I was still a student in the school of fine arts, I

started doing theater. I did many shows as an actress, and then later worked as an executive director and director’s assistant. In 2015, I auditioned to join a female band and

made it. We became Bahgaga, five girls who sing the contemporary art of monologue. Monologue is a very

old art but we try to discuss present-day issues with it by making it more modern, simple and relatable.

Do you like theater more or films and TV?Each one has a different taste. Theater is my first love, so it has a different feeling to me, but cinema and TV have a

different taste and pleasure.

Did you have any celebrity crushes as a kid?Ahmed Zaki, Mahmoud Abdelaziz and lately when I got a

bit older, Khaled Saleh. God rest their souls. They were also great people who I really wish I could have worked with.

What’s the hardest thing about acting? That no matter what you are personally going through, you have to put it aside and put on a happy face. Like if I had a role where I had to dance, laugh and be productive and at the same time I was dealing with a lot of issues in my life, I would have to put these issues aside and become that

happy character. Even if you’re unhappy, you have to push it away because your audience, who loves you, doesn’t

need to see your sad side.

Would you live in the past or future? The past, maybe the 60s. I love the dresses of this period!

What’s your biggest pet peeve?I hate people who just want to talk but don’t listen, I

hate when someone treats me like I’m a fool, I also hate having to listen to any sound repetitively for a long time.

This is actually a form of torture.

Who do you trust unconditionally? My family and some of my friends.

Read us the last text you sent.I was checking up on

some injured birds I had found and rescued and I

was asking what to do for them and how to

feed them.

Did you ever skip school? No! I loved school.

Did you ever lie to not go out?All the time. But I don’t lie. I tell the truth. I say I’m sorry I slept, I

have to babysit the cat or I’m tired or I just don’t feel like it.

Which subject were you bad at in school and which was

your favorite?I was bad at math because I

hate numbers. And I used to love Arabic and Arabic literature.

What do you think about first thing in the morning?Coffee.

Weirdest thing you ever ate?In Germany I had cucumbers cooked in red sauce.

Popular Montenegrin actor Momcilo Otasevic first came onto our radar at the 5th edition of the GFF as the lead in After the Winter, a film that has been very

well received internationally and at home. Despite his hectic schedule, Cairo West managed to tear him away

from filming a new series in Croatia long enough to learn more about him, and see how he enjoyed his first

visit to Egypt.

CW: Was this your first visit to the El Gouna Film Festival? How

was the experience?

This was my first visit to Egypt, and to GFF of course, and I was

so happy to have the opportunity to

enjoy the captivating environment and the

ancient civilization of the country. My

thanks must go to Samih Sawiris and the GFF organizers of this festival, which I am sure will become very relevant in

the industry.

How important is it for countries to have the opportunity to showcase their films in festivals like GFF?

Our Montenegrin film industry is flourishing, although we are a small country, so we feel it is very important to be

able to participate in film festivals like GFF.

In After the Winter, a group of childhood friends maintain their ties in spite of the division of their country into

smaller nations. What can you tell us about the storyline?

This film tells us the reality of living in a small country where there are few opportunities, so therefore people are forced to emigrate to other countries. You lose your feeling of belonging to one specific place, you feel that your identity is split and you belong to many different

places. In a way, I also live that reality, as I live in Zagreb and sometimes I miss my family so much, and the environment

of my home town, although I am very grateful to Zagreb for giving me the opportunity to work and progress. The

film tells the story of five friends and how difficult it is to carry on their relationship, when they are dispersed and have uncertainty about their work, their personal

relationships and futures.

And what can you tell us about your role in the film?

I play one of the five friends who is always willing to make sacrifices for the other friends, someone who wants to help

them in their situations. I have always had a tendency to be like that in my personal life, and I have friends scattered all around the former Yugoslavia so this is a big part of my

identification with this role. I am also friends with the other actors in this movie and I am amazed by the chemistry we have created. I have a deep connection with all four other main actors, through school, university and the academy,

and through meeting on the set.

This was a debut feature for the director Ivan Bakrač. What excited you most about working on this film with him?

When he gave me the script I was thrilled to read a story with such warmth and depth. I immediately decided to

grab a role in the film, and he suggested that I choose the role I felt was most suited to me. The whole process of

working with him was amazing and I am sure he will have a great future.

What can you tell us about the Montenegro film industry?

There is a lot of creativity in Montenegro, with a lot of theatre. You don’t have many opportunities to make

movies, as there is a small market as well. Of course, we are very thankful for any private body that offers support in

this.

Where do you see the local industry going in the coming few years?

I think the future of the industry lies in co-production with neighbors like Croatia and Serbia, and other regional countries. Apart from that, festivals like GFF are important for our actors and directors, we are very grateful for these

opportunities.

Take us back to the beginning, how did you break into acting?

I grew up in Cetinje, an old, historical town with interesting monuments, but in the period when I grew up, we had very few drama classes. My friends and I were the first ones to start experimenting in that direction. It was a

brave step, and when I finished school, I still wasn’t sure about continuing to be an actor, as it was a career with

no financial guarantees. I decided to go to Rome, to find myself and think about it. After one year, I returned home

and started at the Academy of Dramatic Arts. The same year, because I wasn’t sure what my occupation would be, I also applied to the Faculty of Architecture in Rome, tourism

in Cyprus and law in university in Montenegro. I was in a huge dilemma as to what I was going to study.

What advice would you give to young actors trying to make a name for themselves?

Don’t give up on your dreams, be confident, read, explore life, and be determined that you want to achieve results.

QUICK-FIRE ROUND:

Your favorite way to relax?

I enjoy carpentry, being in touch with the soil, being close to nature in the area where my grandparents grew up. To

be free and away from the stress of the modern world.

Best book you have read?

For me, Animal Farm, it is an amazing book.

Comfort food? Traditional Montenegrin dishes, cheese, and Italian dishes.

Romantic or realist?

Romantic, definitely.

Items of clothing you hang on to?

Well, although people have tried to convince me to wear a suit, I like clothes that make me feel comfortable.

If you had a weekend to show a visitor the things you love most about your country, what would be on the agenda?

Many visitors say that Montenegro is all beautiful, with every municipality being special. Montenegro is shared

between seaside and mountainous areas, I would take you to the medieval town of Kotor, then it would take around 40 minutes to get to Cetinje, our old capital. I would take

you to the National Museum, then to Njeguši, an old village with amazing views. After that we would go to the north of Montenegro to Tara, where the river forms a canyon second

only to the Grand Canyon in the United States. Then we would go to Lovćen, then turn south again. The whole trip

would only take around a few hours.

CW: You have an incredible depth of experience in the automotive industry, what can you tell us about your journey

and what brought you to where you are today?MN: It all started when I was a child, cars were my hobby, I started

collecting cars and sketching them at a very early age. Then I turned my hobby into my studies when I joined Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering, Power Section, where I ranked third in class. The first

ever brands I worked with were Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari and Maserati, which was the best start anyone could dream of. Then

I got hired at Jeep, Chrysler and Dodge dealer Ezz Elarab, where I participated in the International Skills contest and managed to

achieve the second and third place successively in the years 2003 and 2006 across Africa, Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe.

After being promoted to a service manager position, again, I received the Best Service Manager award for the year 2008.

Challenging myself more, I decided to work at Chery Importer as After Sales Director serving a different customer segment and again, I received the Chery Service Excellence Award for the year

2011 for Best After Sales Service in the world. My next journey was with the German Maker Mercedes Benz where I was promoted to a General Manager Position, widening my scope of work to include

new areas like Sales, Business Development, Marketing, Finance and Administration. To further enhance my skills, I joined the Transition to General Manager Course at INSEAD which was a step up in my

career path. Currently, I manage Volvo and Aston Martin as General Manager. In my first six months, Aston Martin was awarded the

Impressive Transformation Award for the year 2020. We started the year with 4 Volvo sales outlets and expect to end the year with 7

sales outlets and a state-of-the-art Excellence Center for used cars sales and After Sales Services. Through this hard work, we managed to grow the year-over-year volume by 70% at Volvo and by 150% at

Aston Martin.

General Manager of Volvo and Aston Martin (Ezz Elarab), Muhammad Aboul Nour has had a long and

illustrious career in the automotive industry that took him from one big-name car manufacturer to the next

on an upward trajectory. The recipient of many awards, Aboul Nour has always worked hard and developed his professional abilities, adamant on becoming the

best, most sought-after in his field. Cairo West sat with this business guru in the hopes of learning what it

takes to carve out a solid career for yourself, how to turn a hobby into a profession, and how to become an

effective leader.

Automotive Industry HeavyweightMuhammad Aboul Nour

There is quite a buzz about the new Volvo V60. What excites you most about this family sized model, and where does it fill a gap in

the market?

Before launching the V60, we studied the market and found a potential for this segment knowing that an average family in Egypt

consists of 4 persons, which would not fit in a normal sedan and include luggage. In the beginning, it was a very challenging model that failed with some premium car makers and was not offered by others as they didn’t even want take the challenge, however with attractive specifications and a well-priced car along with effective

marketing activities, we managed to raise awareness of a non-estate market to accept the concept. I think we’ve succeeded in doing so in a very short period, resulting in 10 times the volume sales of our

competitors who introduced similar cars in this segment; and in only 8 months.

What is involved in establishing a brand presence in a highly competitive market?

When it comes to highly competitive markets, positioning the brand is critical because it is directly related to the customer’s perception

of the brand, as well as its identity and value proposition. As well as achieving distinction so that it stands out from competitor brands/

offerings and meets consumer needs/expectations. The primary goal of a brand should be to instill the desired perception in the target

consumer’s head.

The focus of branding should be to provide intangible advantages to products, services, and enterprises in the form of emotional

connections, beliefs, values, and sentiments that people associate with the brand. The brand may develop a strong identity or

personality by deliberately establishing itself in the minds of the target audience.

Companies face challenges in building brands, such as being noticed, remembered, changing perceptions, reinforcing attitudes, and

developing deep customer relationships, in addition to establishing “operational standards” in all areas affecting day-to-day brand-

related activities. This can be applied to behaviors, management practices, service provision, customer relationship management, and

performance achievement, among other things.

Where do the challenges lie in managing a huge team representing various brands, with multiple and diverse areas of

responsibility?

Managing large, varied teams may be difficult. However, as a leader of a big team, the most essential professional connections you create

are with your direct reports and management team, who assist the leader in putting plan into effect. By attempting to establish rapport and demonstrating that you are aware of their job within the team. This will go a long way toward ensuring that everyone is involved in

and pulling in the same direction as you.

It’s critical that you not only develop good relationships with your team, but also that you encourage them to succeed and believe

in themselves. You should encourage them to make decisions and accept responsibility for tasks. As the head of a large team, a

motivated, respected, and empowered management team might be your most valuable asset.

In every business, communication is likely the most critical aspect. It is critical for you to develop clear communication channels

among your teams as a manager in charge of a large workforce. You oversee a big number of people and projects, each with its own set of priorities, which may be difficult to manage. Be willing to assign

responsibilities to team members who can absorb them and have the time and space to do so. On the one hand, this will free up time for

you to focus on other objectives, but it will also allow those workers to take on higher-level duties and develop their skill sets.

What are your tips for effective leadership?

By being a role model to your team, being passionate and having a positive attitude, you inspire your team to be the better version of

themselves and find a symbol to look up to and respect.

In addition to the above, encourage creativity, listen and communicate effectively, have a positive attitude, encourage people

to make contributions, motivate your followers, offer rewards and recognition and keep trying new things.

Where do you see the automotive industry heading in the next few of years, and which areas would you like to see developed?

The main direction that all auto makers are heavily investing in is electrification. Most brands are aiming to have the full electric

model range by 2030. I also see that all governments in all countries are introducing several incentives to motivate auto makers and

customers to shift from internal combustion engines to fully electric battery vehicles.

I have to mention as well that we – Volvo – are the first to introduce Mild Hybrid Cars in Egypt, which are already available in the model

year 2022 range, including the V60, XC40, XC60 and XC90.

Which brands do you currently oversee and which market sectors do they cater to?

Currently, I am overseeing Volvo and Aston Martin in my capacity as General Manager. Volvo serves different customer segments starting from the Premium Compact up to Executive mid-size luxury, offering

freedom to move in a personal, sustainable and safe way. As for Aston Martin, we serve the super car segment that is looking for a

unique and one-of-a-kind driving experience. Each Aston Martin car is the essence of power, beauty and soul.

What is the main challenge that you see with your current role and how do you handle it?

For Volvo, the real challenge was to reposition the brand and work in a Selective and Exclusive Distribution System to be able to control the residual value of the cars as well to provide a premium service quality for customers. These were the main pillars that we

worked on by expanding and developing our network to meet the corporate brand identity requirements, providing customers the

same premium experience at any location. As well, providing new services that were never offered before like approved used cars and fleet business program. Volvo provides a unique car experience in After Sales across all car makers, which is the PST Personal Service

Technician accompanying the customer through the full journey of receiving, repairing and delivering the car to the customer by the

same technician.

For Aston Martin, the challenge was different. The main target was brand awareness and reaching customers to provide them with an exceptional experience and the opportunity to customize their cars

according to their needs. This included delving into deep refined details resulting in a one-of-a-kind car having its own identity. You

can hardly find two similar Aston Martin cars in Egypt.

I have to mention as well that working with a very strong, reliable and well established organization like Ezz Elarab was the main factor for

all this success; having the full support from the board and personally the chairman.

Perrie El Hariri

Perrie El Hariri, who goes by Perrie, is a half Egyptian/Moroccan singer, rapper, sound engineer, and music producer. She writes, performs, produces, as well as mixes and masters her own songs. She lived in the UK for six years while working as well as studying sound engineering and production, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree with honours. Perrie started to be known in the indie Egyptian scene after releasing a response or more of a diss track track to the then trending song Salmonella by Tameem Youness called Shigella, which represents the woman’s point of view to unwanted advances by guys. Although she’s been singing for almost a decade now, it’s her rapping in Arabic that amassed most of her fans currently. She shines in performing freestyles and writing her own tracks which reflect the great passion and talent she has for rapping, and her goal of empowering women in the music industry. Her latest track, a feature with Egyptian rapper and producer Abyusif titled Mamlaka, was trending on Youtube, and established Perrie as a big presence in the rap scene whose journey is just beginning!

Women

Boldly

Changing

the music

Industry

By Farah ElAbd

The Egyptian music scene has always had prominent female figures in it, but has always been

dominated by male artists and creators. As new genres have risen to popularity such as Egyptian

rap and trap music, they’ve become genres almost completely run by male figures. Cairo West is

spotlighting women pushing against the glass ceiling to carve a place for themselves in different

areas in music.

Dareen

Dareen Salama, better known by her stage name Dareen, is an Egyptian hip-hop and rap artist born in 2002. Dareen, from Alexandria, and has always had a passion for music, which led her to becoming one of the youngest rappers in the mostly male Egyptian scene. Dareen’s career is just starting, she’s been writing and releasing tracks since 2020, with more surely to come.

Tasneem Elaidy

Tasneem Elaidy is a 20-year-old singer, songwriter, and pianist who burst onto the scene after a video of her singing Astronaut In The Ocean by Masked Wolf went viral on TikTok and Instagram. Her video got over 8 million views on TikTok, even the song’s original performer, Masked Wolf noticed her! After a smashing duet with him - upon his request - was posted, she gained a massive amount of followers and more online attention. Tasneem is a student at The American University in Cairo majoring in both music production and performance, and has been taking piano lessons since childhood. She began her performing journey from a very young age; performing in contests and talent shows during her school years. She started using social media to post videos of her covers to help launch her music career, and has amassed over 1.8 million followers on Instagram, and 3.3 million on TikTok. Tasneem has an EP out on all music platforms named ‘Blue’ containing three songs, of which she has written two. Keep your eyes peeled to this extremely talented and promising young artist, and wait for more original music by Tasneem!

Iman Junaidi

Iman Junaidi is one of the most inspiring examples of Egyptian females in the music industry. Iman broke ceilings when she became the first female maestro from Upper Egypt, and was honoured by the Egyptian First Lady, Intisar El Sisi during the celebration ceremony of Egyptian Women’s Day. She also won second Best Maestro at the Fayoum Festival and seven other awards, beating over 32 male candidates. After graduating from the Faculty of Music Education in 1992, she worked as a music teacher in Egypt and was sent by the Ministry of Education to teach abroad in countries like Oman and Kuwait. She was promoted to lead the Beni Suef Band of Arabic Music, the first woman to lead an orchestra for Arab music, and became the leader of the Beni Suef University of Music. She has won, alongside her orchestra, second and third places in Arab music competitions year after year, and is showing young Egyptian girls, especially from Upper Egypt, that they can achieve everything their dreams.

Yousra El Gendy

Yousra El Gendy is an Egyptian singer, music producer, and songwriter who became popular through unique, viral musical pieces. Yousra has performed songs through her band collaboration with musician Ezz Shahawan called Takh; where she handles vocals, lyrics, and melody, and Ezz handles the music production aspect. Their song Call Me Ziko caught on quickly due to its unique lyrics and style of singing, which made the song one-of-its-kind! The song which really put Yousra’s name on the map in the music scene though was Bakalemak Mesh Betrod, a song released in 2015 in the form of a dialogue between her and Mohamed Mekkawy, where the lyrics are sung back and forth between them as if they’re having an argument through the phone. The song went viral after tons of celebrities sung it in videos and duets on TikTok and Instagram. Yousra has had mainstream success as well, releasing the duet song Casanova with Mohamed Ramadan in 2020; his first duet with a female singer, and his second overall collaboration with an artist. She also wrote and sang Amazon Egypt’s jingle for their latest advertisement campaign. Yousra is never afraid to think outside of the box or to present her true personality through her songs, which makes us always excited to see what she has in store!

Dina El Wedidi

Dina El Wedidi is an Egyptian singer, composer, and producer who has been performing since 2011. Dina performed with different artists throughout her career after joining the El Warsha theatre troupe in 2008. She performed a variety of folk and traditional musical pieces with El Warsha, before leaving to explore her own talent, and forming her own band in 2011. Dina gained popularity during the time around the Egyptian revolution when she collaborated with artists like, Masar Egbari, Tamer Shalaby, and Tunisian artists on the modern operetta Khalina Nehlam, a huge hit that addressed the Arab Spring of 2011. In late 2012, she then joined The Nile Project, in which she collaborated with artists from 11 East African countries and incorporated influences from these cultures into her music. In that same year, she was selected by Gilberto Gil and the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative as a protégé. During the last few years, Dina has completely changed her artistic direction towards a more experimental style. Her last album is an experimental electronic album, in which she used a unique instrument: trains! She used layers of processed train sounds which she sings over, resulting in a truly unique and different musical experience.

Making the Most of Waste Fabric

This eco-friendly solution is exactly what the fashion industry needs, seeing as it is the second most polluting industry in the world. Unused fabric is commonly burned or dumped in some wasteland. But now, Why Don’t We Change is acquiring this extra fabric to create its’ self-proclaimed “limited vintage apparel”. It’s inspiring to see what a small budget startup that launched with an investment of just 4 figures has turned into. Gemei and Hamed started to grow their business gradually, and now, it has really taken off. The startup is now valued at 5 figures, and has been sustaining that level as the demand for its offerings has risen.

The Story Behind the Brand

It all began during those early Covid-19 days, when the pair filled their time by casually making new pieces out of the old clothes hanging in their closets. This sparked the idea of collaborating to start an environmentally conscientious fashion-movement, making the clothes they sell more than just a fashion statement.

How it Works

The duo purchase excess remaining fabric from local factories, and work with this unused fabric or repurpose old clothes into vintage-style pieces. These remaining pieces of unused or reused fabric are given new life as they are morphed into something fashionable and current. Although different times of the year yield different amounts of fabric, and so the pair will be looking to officially partner up with several local factories in the near future, which will also be a gradual process but will ease things down the line.

An Environmentally

Conscious Fashion

Startup By Ahmed Talal

Fashion startup Why Don’t We Change launched a year ago and is looking to do exactly as the name implies, to affect serious change. Specifically, to the fashion industry and its whole landscape. Meet

Malak Gemei 18, and Amina Hamed 17, two aspiring entrepreneurs that are aiming to introduce sustainable, innovative clothes made

from what is known as deadstock fabric.

Going Nuts for

Nuttiest Butters

Founded by Haidy Mahrous a little over a year ago, Nuttiest Butters offers healthier nut butter

alternatives. Mahrous initially made a 4 figure investment and is now proudly running a profitable business, as her nut butters have

found an appreciative market. The Healthier Choice

Last Ramadan, Mahrous made the decision to cut out all refined

sugar from her diet to improve her overall immunity and health. After reading the label of a supermarket

brand peanut butter one night, she discovered that it was full of

sugar, prompting this idea. Her first attempt was an almond butter,

which proved successful. So, she then started introducing more nuts, such as walnuts, cashews, peanuts, and hazelnuts, and began making

different batches. She focused solely on making them as healthy and organic as possible excluding all

preservatives, oils, sugars, etc. Her ingredients are all natural, which include coconut milk, honey, cinnamon, and unsweetened cocoa for

other chocolate butters too.Even More Nuts

Nuttiest Butters is available order by order, which means the products are freshly made upon request, packaged to the right size, and

delivered right to customers. The brand has gone a level above and beyond by diversifying and introducing walnut butter and hazelnut

butter into the market, which is relatively unique. Mahrous also offers her very own new mix called, Nocciolata. This is her signature butter

and the one she is most proud of, as it is a healthier alternative to Nutella.

More to Come

Customers can order any of the delicious butters through directly messaging Nuttiest butters on Instagram. Mahrous is now looking to start her own E-website to offer customers multiple ways to buy her products. Nuttiest Butters has a bright future ahead of it and hopes

to be featured in several supermarkets and hypermarkets. The main objective with this startup was always to promote a healthier lifestyle

by learning to consciously make healthier diet choice.

Circle Entertainment:

An Event Startup to

Watch

Right Circles is an entertainment startup that launched in Egypt in 2019, by founding partners, Patrick Antoine and Marco Marvin with an initial 5 figure investment. Circle Entertainment has grown

substantially, reinjecting profits back into the startup. The startup’s events are centered around upbeat music genres like Pop and Hip Hop, while the startup is looking to diversify into more genres of

music.

Exclusive Hot Ticket

Circle Entertainment events are a hot ticket as they are quite exclusive, with only friends and friends of friends invited to the shindigs. So

word of mouth is the main marketing tactic.

The selection process is strictly based on knowing the founding partners personally or being a friend of a friend. This is ultimately done for a few reasons. First of all, it is to help familiarize people

within the same social circle that may have not known of each other but could have had mutual friends. It also reduces the risk of having

any sort of problems between people who may not know each other. So, making new friends is almost guaranteed at these Circle

Entertainment parties.

Keeping the Circle Tight

The startup also place a great emphasis on selecting the right venue and making sure that the venue selected is safe to accommodate.

Circle Entertainment also has a specific ratio of bodyguards at all its’ events to prevent any altercations. Safety comes first and this is a

huge priority for the brand, which is why it hasn’t had any mishaps at any previous parties thus far. Circle Entertainment celebrates all major world occasions like Halloween and New Year’s Eve, and is looking to

get involved in more major events as the business progresses.

CW: What can we find at Defy Egypt?

MB: Defy Egypt is the first recovery center of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East. We offer the latest technology in the world for recovery and relaxation with seven services which help to eliminate pain and

reduce stress, all with no human interaction, especially our zero gravity massage.

What types of touchless treatments and therapies does Defy offer, and what is involved in each of these?

All of our services are touchless and offer a variety of benefits, according to the patient needs.

CRYOTHERAPY

Cryotherapy is a quick, easy and routine way to organically benefit your overall health on its own, or when paired with your existing

wellness plan. This simple, three-minute experience exposes your body to the coldest temperatures on earth in order to boost

the body’s natural processes to burn calories and help alleviate symptoms of existing health conditions. Benefits of cryotherapy include: faster recovery from injury, decreased muscle aches and

spasms, enhanced lymphatic drainage, reduced inflammation and swelling, reduced stress, anxiety and fatigue. It can also increase

metabolism, promoting

The New Frontier in Wellness

Defy Egypt Takes it to a New Level with Touchless Therapies

As we live in a changing world, we learn to adapt to survive and prosper. Sound Orwellian? Nonetheless, the demand for touchless therapies is booming. We caught up with Dr. Mahmoud El Bendary at Defy Egypt to see

what was on offer, and what to expect.

weight loss, improved circulation, sleep, mood and libido. Another positive effect is improved immunity, thus lowering the incidence

of colds and flu. It offers pain relief from joint disorders, rheumatoid diseases and fibromyalgia. From a cosmetic viewpoint, it improves the

appearance by increasing collagen production and helping reduce cellulite, psoriasis, blemishes and acne. You can get benefits from just

one session of cryotherapy.

FACIAL CRYOTHERAPY

Defy also offers the full benefits of immersive cryotherapy with a less intense, more targeted option specifically designed to restore and rejuvenate your face. The cryo lifts are a great option for those looking to maintain a healthy and youthful appearance. As this is a cryotherapy service that specifically targets the face, it’s a great

complement to a full-body cryotherapy experience.

FLOATING THERAPY

Defy’s saline float rooms offer sensory deprivation with no light and sound and prevent the body from reacting to external stimuli, thus allowing your body and mind to completely rejuvenate and relax. This relaxing setting actively removes physical and psychological stress so your body can focus on restoring itself. Benefits of float

therapy include: Improved circulation, elevation of mood, increased creativity, relaxation and improved sleep. You can also experience a

reduction of soreness and pain, improved focus and mental acuity. In addition to relieving stress and reducing anxiety you can experience

a reduction in blood pressure and heart rate. It helps with fatigue and jet lag, improves creativity, healing, and visualization while expanding

awareness and heightening the senses. Additional benefits include alleviation of anxiety and depression, increased motivation, help with phobias, addiction and PTSD symptoms. It decreases the perception

of pain and relieves arthritis, migraines, fibromyalgia and rheumatism. Float rooms are actually one of the more popular services found at

Defy Studio.

FIR SAUNA

An infrared sauna uses light to create heat, and heats your body directly without warming the air around you. The numerous benefits include better sleep, relaxation, detoxification, weight loss, relief from sore muscles, relief from joint pain such as arthritis, clear and tighter skin, improved circulation and help for people with chronic fatigue

syndrome.

BEMER

Vascular Physical Therapy emits energy through a pad that you lay on, letting it stimulate your blood flow. It increases your blood flow,

which in turn allows your body to deliver more oxygen and nutrients to different organs and muscles. This improved circulation increases energy, strength, focus and endurance while also helping to relieve

stress. BEMER also improves the quality of your sleep.

Defy’s saline float rooms offer sensory deprivation with no light and sound and prevent the body from reacting to external stimuli, thus allowing your body and mind to completely rejuvenate and relax.”

AIR RELAX

Originally developed to treat medical patients suffering from severe muscular and circulatory disorders, Air Relax technology applies beneficial compression to the limbs to improve your circulation.

Comprised of air-pressure controlled boots and sleeves, you just sit back and enjoy the benefits of better circulation, whether you’re

recovering from an injury, treating symptoms of various ailments, or increasing the results of your training.

ZERO GRAVITY MASSAGE

The point of any massage is to help stress leave the body, whether physical or psychological. Zero Gravity Massage chairs do just that by placing your body in a supported, but reclined position that reduces the overall stress on your body so you can get the most benefit from

the massage.

Should you have medical clearance from your doctor before undergoing any treatment?

Yes, and we carry out a medical assessment before starting any

sessions with one of our professional doctors. There may be contra-

indications with patients suffering from heart, neuro and respiratory

diseases.

How quickly do you feel the effects and benefits with each

type of treatment?

You can feel refreshed, with pain relief immediately after any session,

but to maintain the sense of wellbeing you should have frequent sessions. We recommend three times

a week in order to benefit fully.

What other supportive lifestyle advice do you offer your patients?

Using a holistic approach, we offer instructions on how to reduce stress

and how to exercise and eat well.

WELLBEING

Stay Healthy, Stay Well During the Holiday the Season

Christmas is a magical time of year, with festivities, friends, family and often, several fabulous feasts.

Holiday stress, like any other kind of stress, is our mind and body’s natural response to the pressures of responsibilities, challenges and demands. That’s when our bodies flood with

stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. Our bodies then fling into action, our heart rates spike, pupils dilate,

and our muscles tighten.

It’s important to remember that stress is entirely normal and, in the short term, can be helpful. It keeps us focused and alert. But living

in an ongoing state of stress, can have a significant impact upon our mental and physical health.

MANAGE STRESS. Give yourself a break if you feel stressed out, overwhelmed, and out of control. Some of the best ways to manage stress are to find support, connect socially, and get plenty of sleep.

STAY HYDRATED. On the day of a big night out, and the day after, make a conscious effort to drink 8-6 glasses of water, or plenty of

herbal teas or diluted juice. Even mild dehydration can lead to that dreaded headache, and combined with the diuretic effects of alcohol (in case you consume alcohol) makes maintaining your fluid intake so

important. Water will be your saving grace.

EAT HEALTHY, STAY ACTIVE. Eat fruits and vegetables which pack nutrients and help lower the risk for certain diseases. Limit your

portion sizes and foods high in fat, salt, and sugar. Also, be active for at least 2½ hours a week and help kids and teens be active for at least

1 hour a day.

Once festive season parties and celebrations begin it is not too easy to swap 30 minutes of exercise. If you’re a regular exercise goer, the

more time you spend out of your regular habit the harder it will be to restart your regular regime.

We all know Christmas can send your stress levels into overdrive as well. Taking some time out with some yoga, tai chi or Pilates using available YouTube videos is a great alternative exercise to combat

stress levels and to shake up your exercise routine as well.

BE SMOKE-FREE. Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke. Smokers have greater health risks because of their tobacco use, but

nonsmokers also are at risk when exposed to tobacco smoke.

GET SOME SLEEP.

Did you know, sleep boosts the immune system, repairs muscle tissue and is crucial for daily body function? Poor sleep affects hormones that regulate appetite. Those who get adequate sleep tend to eat fewer calories than those who don’t. Getting at least eight hours

of sleep can improve your immune function and help fight off any suspicions of the common cold along with nutrition and exercise,

good sleep is one of the pillars of health not just for the holiday season, but your health in general.

Most importantly, have a happy, healthy festive season!

WELLBEING

Aries: December focus: Take time to relax and reflect.

Work matters have been a hard slog recently, and financial ups and downs haven’t lightened your mood. It should be time to get out and celebrate the festive season, but you probably feel more like crawling into a cosy place and hibernating for a while. Don’t force yourself into a sociable mood, it won’t convince anyone. Avoid going out on the evening of the 24th if possible, it may not meet your expectations.

Taurus: December focus: Things can only get better.

It may have been taking more effort than you anticipated to kick-start a new career direction, and coping with unwanted turns of events just isn’t your thing. Things will look up though, when Jupiter cruises into your 11th house of friendships and shared goals. You may keep stumbling across like-minded souls who make you feel validated and appreciated. Embrace the unexpected, it isn’t always bad!

Gemini:

December focus: Don’t get bitten by the travel bug!

While others have been grumbling about the state of the world and other matters, you have actually managed to crack on with things and have a reasonable good time these past months. The only fly in the ointment as far as you’re concerned could be your finances. Bills keep piling up and your credit line has been stretched to its limit. Career prospects should improve soon, so be patient.

Cancer: December focus: Put effort into relationships and mending bridges.

Try to fine tune your work routines this month as the pressure is building up. Your health could be at risk if you let stress get the better of you. It is important to be sensitive to your relationships, both personal and on the work front. Fatigue can make you snappy and self-protective, so do try to eat well and get that eight hours sleep every night. Things brighten after the 24th.

Leo: December focus: Progress in work, but still time for fun!

If work matters had been more trouble than they were worth, the burden may lighten as things open up and ideas start to flow. Burn off nervous energy with physical activity, Mars is bouncing into your solar 5th house this month, highlighting hobbies, sports and creativity. Kids in the household could be high energy and a rather a handful, so maybe you need to be extra patient.

Virgo: December focus: Be it ever so hectic, there is no place like home.

Mars romps into your domestic sector, meaning you should be ready for a surge in activity around the house. Make sure it has been accident-proofed, carelessness could lead to mishaps. You still need to pour maximum effort into work and routine matters, as time to kick back and have fun is in short supply. Try to catch up with friends and relax whenever the opportunity crops up. It is the festive season after all!

Libra:December focus: Things start to speed up, buckle your seatbelt!

Your ruling planet, Venus, goes

retrograde on the 19th, so try to wind up important matters before then. This applies to property matters and domestic and family issues in particular. You may be busy with visits, appointments and an overload of phone calls and emails this month. Try to manage your time as things could easily slip out of control. There are still good times to be had, so don’t turn down invitations.

Scorpio:December focus: Show me the money!

If life has been all effort for little reward in recent months, things should see an improvement after mid-month. Finances get a boost, but you will need to put in some hard work to benefit. Expenses may rocket as well, but put that down to making the most of the festive season. You are on the brink of a wonderful period that should see a boost in creativity, love and possibly even a new addition to the family.

Capricorn: December focus: Don’t push your luck. You have had a lot on your plate to handle this year, with taskmaster Saturn trundling his way through your birth sign. Luckily, with benevolent Jupiter transiting your second house you have been able to make ends meet, in spite of the odds. Now, on the 19th of December, Venus will turn retrograde in your sign, meaning that you shouldn’t bank on that lucky streak too much. Don’t count your chickens before they are hatched!

Aquarius: December focus: Consolidate recent achievements.

You have been protected somehow over the past 12 months, but if you really want to make the most of ground recently covered, you need to slip out of cruise control and get down to some hard graft. The coming year or so will challenge you in many ways, but the rewards could be great for anyone who can stay the distance. This month will test your friendships, sorting out the people who share your goals and vision from mere hangers-on.

Pisces:December focus: Let the good times roll!

The past months have been a bit of a steep learning curve for many Pisces. This month may see some seismic shifts in relationships and groups you hang out with. You have a wealth of opportunities ahead, but first you need to cut any dead wood out of your life. This is a time when nothing should come between you and the full expression of your potential. Take it easy on Christmas Eve, be selective in the company you keep.

By Maeri Frances

It’s time to say farewell to 2021, with a collective sigh of relief in many cases. The planets may have been giving

some stern messages, especially when cases of corruption and abuse of power were exposed. Going forward, we can

expect even more of a global clean up, so have faith!P.S. Don’t forget to read your rising sign as well if you know it.

December Stars

Happy Birthday,Sagittarius:

December focus: Put your foot on the gas.

There is a lot going on in your sign this month, with a total solar eclipse on the 4th to set the mood. You may have sensed something coming, but now you will need to deal with matters first hand. Mars speeds things up as of the 13th, but the good news is that your confidence levels are boosted by the

sun in your birth sign, so you should come out on top. Messages, visits, correspondence

and communication all take a toll on you this month, so keep up to date

to avoid any backlog.

HOROSCOPES

TV SHOWS

The first half of Money Heist season five was an action-packed thrill-ride, but a recent trailer suggests that part two will be a much more

sombre affair. It shows the gang still reeling from that shock character death in part one, before all sorts of chaos kicks off – from the

Professor’s hideout being discovered to the police entering the bank to the robbers seemingly getting caught.

It’s certainly not looking likely the Professor and his gang of Dali-masked thieves will get away with this one, or indeed that everyone

will make it out alive.

Cobra Kai

Old wounds begin to heal at a country club Christmas party, but a brutal assault by Kreese’s students leads to new betrayals and alliances.

Crossing Swords

A good-hearted peasant dreaming of knighthood becomes a squire at the royal castle. But his dream job isn’t everything he’d hoped it would be.

Type of cuisine: Mediterranean with a focus on Italian dishes.

Signature dishes: Bacon Egg Benedict, Salmon Benedict, Croque Monsieur, Oriental Breakfast, Pancakes (for breakfast). Tuscany Salad

with Palmito and Orange Slices, Fried Mac and Cheese, Risotto Arancini, Shrimp Tempura, Seafood Risotto, Chicken Parmigiana,

Norwegian Salmon with Caper Butter sauce, Angus Beef Tenderloin Steak and Apple Crumble. Signature beverages are Deluca shot

(Nutella Turkish coffee) and Cappuccino.

What we would like to try: There are so many of our all-time faves’ on the menu, it would be easy to pop in for breakfast and keep

grazing throughout the day. We would sensibly opt to have a leisurely weekend brunch and mix the best of breakfast and other irresistible

dishes. Sounds a bit crazy? How about this. Starting with Salmon Benedict, we would wash it down with a heart-warming cappuccino, then follow up with Risotto Arancini and Sweet Potato Fries. Cooler

weather brings on our carb-cravings!

An extra cappuccino later, we would share a Deluca pizza, with minced beef and secret sauce and spices, just to be sure that we were well-fueled for the day ahead. Sugar cravings would probably kick in later in the day, so we would stock up with cheesecake and brownies

to fortify ourselves.

On future visits, we would love to further explore the tempting selection of appetizers, main dishes and other desserts. We already

have our eye on Branzino Lombardo and Chicken Parmigiana, although we could be swayed to try the Seafood Risotto. Decisions,

decisions…

Beverages: Bubble tea, milk shakes, and an amazing selection of specialty coffees, other hot and cold beverages, mock-tails and juices.

Worth noting: Wi-Fi available and pet-friendly. Music lovers will enjoy the Italian jazz vibe.

Delivery and catering: Available

From 8 am till 12 am and weekends till 1 am. Breakfast is served from 8 am to 4 pm.

Classic Oven-Baked Cheesecake

Plain, lathered in sauce or blended with nuts - this classic creamy dessert with it crumbly crust remains an

all-time favorite.

CHEESECAKES AROUND THE WORLD – DID YOU KNOW?

Cheesecake is made differently depending on where you are in the world. There is a bake version and a no-bake version with all kinds of

varieties in between. Let’s take a look:tItalians use ricotta in the cream cheese mix.

tGermans use a very sour type of cheese that tastes very much like yogurt.

tThe French use Neufchatel cheese (one of the oldest in France). tIn Belgium, the crust is made used a chocolate-based Dutch-Belgian

biscuit. tMatcha green tea in Japan is sometimes folded in with the cheese.

BAKE VS. NO-BAKE

You can prepare cheesecake either by baking or refrigerating – they’re both as delicious and creamy. The difference is that the hot version requires incorporating eggs into the cream cheese mixture

and baking the crust. The cold version requires you to freeze the crust for 10 minutes and then chill the cream cheese filling for about 3-4

hours. OVEN BAKED CHEESECAKE RECIPE:

For the crust 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus room-temperature butter

for pan12 Digestive biscuits/Graham Crackers – crushed

1/4 cup sugar1/4 teaspoon coarse salt

For the filling 2 - 3 packs (Philadelphia or Kiri)

1 1/2 cups sugar1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest, plus 1 tablespoon fresh lemon

juice1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon salt4 large eggs

1 cup sour creamPREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 375oF (190oC) and butter a round oven baking pan while you make the crust.

Mix biscuits, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Press mixture into pan and bake until it’s set (12 to 15 minutes); let it cool down.

Beat cream cheese with sugar, until fluffy. Add lemon zest/ juice, and salt. Beat in eggs, one at a time, scraping down side of bowl after each

addition, then add the sour cream at the end. Boil some water in a kettle and wrap the bottom half of pot in foil.

Pour filling into the pot; place it in a roasting pan, and pour in boiling water to come halfway up the side of pan.

Bake until just set in center, about 1 3/4 hours. Remove pan from water; let cool 20 minutes.

Run a knife around edge; let cool completely. Cover; chill overnight before serving. Add caramel, blueberry,

raspberry or chocolate sauce before serving.
