Amanda is a graduate from Brigham Young University, with a Bachelor’s in Food IndustryManagement. She has a background in food, dietary supplements, and personal careproducts. Amanda has experience in product development, quality, and safety. She hasworked with manufacturers, inspectors, auditors, certifying agencies, production, andmarketing. With this knowledge, she understands how sensory science can elevate theproduct development process.

Thank you for your interest in the Brigham Young University Sensory Lab. We are auniversity-run facility that emphasizes employment for food science and dieteticsstudents, allowing us to provide quality services while still being competitively priced. Thenominal fee includes panelist recruiting, facilities and personnel to support productpreparation, administering the panel (including money for panelist rewards andcollecting the data), and a final report. 

We have a fully equipped and up-to-date facility for your testing needs, including areception area, seven side-by-side private computerized private booths, a client room, afully equipped industrial preparation area, and a walk-in refrigerator and freezer.Specialized features prevent panelists from being influenced by odor or visual cues fromthe kitchen, including specially designed pass-through windows from booths to kitchenand highly controlled air flow. We have the option of red/colored lights for clients who donot want results influenced strongly by sample appearance. A conference room withaudio-visual capabilities is also available for focus groups. We are prepared to run a variety of sensory test formats including consumer acceptancetests, difference tests, focus groups, parent – child testing, and home-use tests.Consumer responses are generally collected and analyzed electronically by CompusenseCloud® and reporting is customized for your needs. This up-to-date sensory softwareapplication allows us to provide initial results almost immediately after panel(s) end, soyou can get a general idea of the outcome before we send you the official report in 5-7business days.

We have a current database approaching 5,000 panelists, consisting of university faculty,staff, and students, as well as others from the local community. Since we are located at aprivate university that draws from across the United States, as well as internationally, adiverse demographic with panelists inclusive of many different regions in the U.S. andcountries all over the world is possible. With our database, we are able to target specificages, ethnicities, and select market segments, including people with specific palates. Weconstantly work to recruit panelists and improve variety in our database. We are alsowilling to fill requests for recruiting specific demographics/markets.
