1. General Information regarding regular packing This instruction shall apply to packing of all compressors, equipment, auxiliary material, electrical components, spare parts and special tools (hereinafter called EQUIPMENT) produced by BURCKHARDT COMPRESSION or its affiliates (hereinafter called BC) or by its appointed VENDORS. EQUIPMENT delivered by VENDORS to Burckhardt Compression’s (hereinafter called BC) designated warehouses shall be subject to visual inspection prior to signing the delivery note. Any signs of external damage, defects, moisture or shortage shall be noted on the delivery note and notified immediately but not later than 3 days after arrival of the EQUIPMENT to the shipping department of BC (hereinafter called SHIPPING DEPARTMENT). BC reserves the right to reject the delivered EQUIPMENT if it was not packed according to BC packing instructions or has the right to replace the packing. Any additional expenses incurred due to non-compliance with the packing instructions are to be borne by the VENDOR thus ensuring prompt shipment and obtaining clean bill of lading documents. The purpose of packing is to protect the EQUIPMENT during transport, lashing and securing the load on or in the various transportation vehicles or their (transport-) containers and for intermediate storage. In addition, a professional packing has to simplify the loading and transport procedures as well as the stacking of the packed goods or units. Packing must also meet the following requirements: - It must be economical - It must provide easy and fast handling of the package - The stability of its construction must withstand all dynamic and static forces. - It must provide a long-lasting seal and protect its content against climatic and chemical

influences - It must be compact and space saving - It must be designed in such a way that the individual transport companies (airlines, shipping

lines, trucking companies, etc.) will accept the packaged goods for transportation. Failing to meet the individual guidelines, BC reserves the right to charge for extra storage, updated packaging and freight charges (no show).

If a packing and marking inspection is required, the following rules apply: The EQUIPMENT is packed according to the packaging specifications and protected against corrosion (e.g. VCI foil or sealed in aluminium foil). For inspection purposes the cases are not closed so the packed contents may be examined. After the examination, the cases will be closed. Any removal from the cases, opening of inner packages or cutting VCI foils or aluminium bags in order to check the EQUIPMENT quality, Model or Serial numbers is not in scope of the packing and marking inspection. Three main types of packing are to be distinguished:

1. Packing for surface transport and air are to be used for door-to-door delivery, without

intermediate storage. Goods to be shipped in “House/House”-Containers can also belong to this category.

2. Seaworthy packing is to be applied for goods with oversea destinations and/or when several handling as well as for shipments in containers from seaport to final destination for a period of six (6) to maximum twelve (12) months depending on the climate conditions on site.

3. Long term packing is applied to goods for a period of twenty-four (24) months from ex Works delivery under transit conditions without suffering damage. After expiry of the 24 months a Burckhardt Compressor Service Engineer or a Burckhardt Compressor appointed Engineer must be contacted to get clearance for additional storage time. Protection is only guaranteed when BC’s storage instructions are strictly followed. In particular, storage of crankcase must be according to instructions of BC’s technical department which will be provided during job execution. Storage must only be made in a dry and covered warehouse. Reference can be made to our long – term storage conditions.

Construction of cases 2.1 Packing for surface and air transport (rail, truck, airfreight) The wooden boards are butt-jointed (Attachment 1, Figure 1). The bottom of the case and the side walls are fastened with grooved nails. The thickness of the transverse base beams is at least 80 mm (=3.15 inches). It will be adjusted if required due to size and weight of the package. Whenever the nature of goods allows a light-weight packing, the material can be packed in wooden crates (Attachment 1, Figure 2), cases or boxes made of wood, cardboard or plywood (Attachment 2, Figure 1) or wooden palett or sledge (Attachment 1, Figure 3). The plywood used must be boiling-water resistant. Plywood boxes are also suitable for sea freight shipments. For skid mounted EQUIPMENT Polyethylene Plastic – formulated to shrink when heat is applied should be used. The material shrinks tightly and thus getting stronger and provides a barrier for certain moisture and debris. The Polyethylene Plastic must be UV resistant. The shrink wrapped EQUIPMENT can be additionally covered with plastic nettings. Alternatively, tarpaulin can be used. Cases of 6000 kg or more must be reinforced additionally with steel protections for lifting. Filling and cushioning material see point 2.5 Corrosion protection see point 3. 2.2 Seaworthy packing Up to a width of 80 cm the cases are constructed as described under 2.1. Should, however, the width exceeds 80 cm (= 31,5 inches), longitudinal and traverse beams are adjoined every 80 cm to allow to handle the case by means of a forklift truck (Attachment 3). All covers are equipped with a layer PE coated re-enforced packing paper or PP plastic. Front and side walls are lined with waterproof paper with PE coated re-enforced packing paper. Filling and cushioning material see point 2.5

High quality wooden cases and / or crates shall be used. Accessories cases should be constructed of top quality softwood or rigid plywood and be solid, robust, moisture-resistant and marine type for packages to be stacked in SEVERAL LAYERS. A stack load of minimum 1 ton/m2 shall be observed.

Under no circumstances shall fibreboard, cardboard or similar cartons be used as outside packing.

The packing cases or crates must be fitted with angle – bars for slinging for cases over 5 tons only. They are to be equipped with angle-bars at the points where sling-lines are, and fastened by means of eye-bolts, appropriate for all packing-cases or crates. The crosswise battens must have a minimum cross-section of 10 X 10 cm to allow easy handling by forklift truck. Corrosion protection see point 3

2.3 Long-term storage packing The cases are made in accordance with pt. 2.2. The boards of the cover, the front and the side walls, however, are tongue and groove jointed as shown in attachment 4 The EQUIPMENT must be sealed in aluminium bags equipped with drying agent. More information on corrosion protection see point 3 Filling and cushioning material see point 2.5 2.4 Wooden packing Any packing made of wood must be treated as per requirement of ISPM No. 15 and must be clearly marked on the outside with the ISPM. No. 15 label / logo. For more information, please contact the following web-site: https://www.ippc.int/en/ 2.5 Filling and cushioning material As filling and cushioning material special packing wool made of foamed polyethylene is to be used. This material is not hygroscopic, reacts neutrally to paints and lacquers and does not constitute a substrate for bacteria and fungi.

3. Corrosion protection The EQUIPMENT must be protected against moisture before being packaged.

The Goods ready for packing must be effectively protected against corrosion, and preserved prior to sea packing. Vendor shall take all the steps necessary to preserve and protect the material against environmental corrosion caused by extremes of humidity, condensation, rain, dust, sand, salted air and seawater spray. The protection should be furnished by SUPPLIER according to the type of EQUIPMENT, the multimodal transport use, the duration of transport and site conditions. Metallic parts of packages must be painted or galvanized, particularly for bundles and packages on supports. In addition to nitrogen purging of closed compressor crankcases or cylinders additional corrosion protection shall be applied depending on the nature of the EQUIPMENT, namely protective coating, VCI or dry agent method.

3.1 Protective-coating method Tectyl 506 is used to protect blank machine parts. This product can be applied with a spray gun or brush. A film thickness of 0,30 mm (0,012 inch) will protect the goods for a period of up to 2 years. Tectyl is diluted with white spirit. As this solvent is especially volatile the coating with Tectyl will be

completely dry within 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The well-bonded, wax-like coating can be removed without difficulty with any hydrocarbon. Parts protected by Tectyl must not get in direct contact with wood. Contact points between the tectyled part and e.g. a wooden support beam must be construed with aluminium foil. 3.2 VCI-method VCI stands for Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor. This is a corrosion protection generated by means of vapour phase. The goods to be protected are wrapped in a special Polyethylene VCI-foil or VCI plastic bags or VCI-paper. This method is recommended for transit times between six (6) to twelve (12) months and immediate erection upon arrival. The period of protection depends on the circumstance whether the wrapping with this VCI - foil is tight or not. 3.3 Drying agent method (vacuum packing) EQUIPMENT which cannot be protected with Tectyl or VCI foil, are to sealed in Aluminium Bags equipped with a drying agent. Drying agent must be applied according to DIN55474. Whenever a protection lasting more than one year is required, the quantity of the drying agent must be increased according to the required storage length. The air-tight bag is made of weld-able, water-vapour tight aluminium composite foil in accordance with DIN 55531 standard. Prior to the sealing of the air-tight bag the air must be withdrawn by suction until the foil is tightly around the packaged part (tightness test).

4. Protection against shock and impacts During transport the goods are exposed to forces of gravity of up to 3 G. Very shock-delicate materials such as Electric and/or Electronic Equipment. which do not withstand to those gravity forces must be packed as "floating-packing". For this type of packing a special kind of foamed material e.g. PE-foam is used as pressure and cushioning medium. It is very light and easy to handle and retains their elasticity even under wet and cold conditions.

5. Marking of the packages The cases and boxes are marked on all sides in capital letters, namely in waterproof black paint or printed on paper and laminated. The consignment number and the gross weight are shown on four (4) sides. Packages requiring as special handling are marked additionally with the international security handling marks and symbols (ISO 780) in indelible black paint (Attachment 5).

6. Despatch of unpacked goods 6.1 Bundles Tubes and piping material as well as straight supports shall be packed as follows (see Attachment 6, Figure 1, 2):

All pipes up to and including 2" shall be packed in cases.

Pipes over 2" up to 6" shall be bundled and strapped with polyester straps or steel straps by bundles in uniform lengths.

Structural steel sections shall be bundled in uniform lengths with using the wooden beams and long bolting to secure.

Stainless steel piping of all sizes must be protected to avoid corrosion.

The pipe ends shall be closed with plastic caps. All material, except crankcase, shall be packed in wooden cases according to requirements for seaworthy packing, see pt. 2.2.

6.2 Bulky packages Pressure vessels (dampeners, coolers, separators) are either fixed on wooden beams and secured with corrosion-free steel tie bands, screwed on wooden cross beams or fastened on wooden sledges (see Attachment 6, Figure 3, 4, 5). The vessels are filled with nitrogen (0,5 bar) for rust prevention.

7. Lifting instructions Transport drawings for heavy lift equipment (EQUIPMENT exceeding 30 metric tons) for lifting and special handling instructions will be provided during job execution.

8. Lashing and Securing It is the responsibility of the SUPPLIER that the packaged EQUIPMENT can be safely lashed and secured on the transport vehicle chosen and agreed for the dispatch.

9. Documentation Packing note (ANNEX IV in our Spec) The description of the packing note must correspond exactly to the detailed contents of each package. The expression "accessories for" or "batches of nuts and bolts" for example, are formally forbidden. One copy of the packing note shall be placed in a waterproof plastic envelope inside of each package. Another copy, in a waterproof plastic envelope shall be placed outside of the package. 3 copies to be submitted to PURCHASER Expediting
