I would like to say a huge congratulations to each of the 82 new Gold Award holders and 36 Volunteers on their wonderful achievements and commitment to the Award!

To all the Gold Award holders, I commend you all on such a triumph. As a Gold Award holder myself, I know all too well the challenges faced along the way and resilience required in order to carry on. But it is these moments that bring the most reward, as I’m sure you’ll have learnt on your Award journey. By committing to the highest level of the Award, Gold, you have proved yourselves to be hard-working and patient young people who understand that teamwork and perseverance are the key to success; attributes that will serve you well for whichever future you choose to make for yourselves. But not only have you dedicated time to your own development, you’ve also invested time and effort into your communities and discovered the importance of voluntary service through the lasting changes you have made. Through the various trials and rewards, I do hope you’ve had fun along the way to finding your purpose, passion and place in the world.

The contribution you make to your world is invaluable to creating a brighter future for generations to come. May your achievements today and future successes inspire other young people to follow suit.

To our Award Volunteers: The Award challenges young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements and make a difference in their world, allowing young people to take control of their own destinies, guided and supported by phenomenal adults like yourselves. I cannot thank you enough for choosing to give your time and support to the Award. Without individuals like you, we would not be able to deliver the Award and work towards reaching our ambition of providing every young person aged 14-24 with the opportunity to participate in the Award. You are, quite simply, essential to the delivery of the Award. On behalf of the Award family worldwide, thank you.

It is a great pleasure to congratulate all recipients on the occasion of the IAYP India 2018 Gold Award Ceremony.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is a global non-formal education framework which operates in more than 130 countries and territories, helping to inspire young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements and make a difference in their world.

Non-formal education focuses on developing life skills which help young people ensure they are ready for the world. When paired with a formal education, it provides a fantastic foundation for a young person to thrive.

Since the Award began in 1956 over 8 million young people have completed their Award across more than 130 countries and territories around the world.

We recognise each Gold Award holder for taking the opportunity to discover your talents, to make a positive impact in your community, to develop skills and most of all, to know what it is to have fun discovering your passions. Each of you now holds an international accreditation.

The Award is a global organisation of which you are all a part, as Award holders, as Leaders, Volunteers, operators and professional staff. The experience and knowledge you bring to and have gained from the Award will continue to make a difference to your local, regional and global community.

I would like to congratulate all those who have just earned their Gold Award and thank those of

you who have volunteered your time to guide the participants along the way.. You, the

Awardees have remained committed through the Bronze and the Silver stages to reach the

pinnacle of the program. We who administer the Award in India and indeed all over the world

and our corps of volunteers, trainers, and leaders, the Award Family believe firmly that the

Award has a positive impact on the lives of those who undertake the journey. I will not

elaborate here since each of you knows just what you have gained from the program. In India

we have an intake of around 12000 new participants each year. This is a large number but at the

same time it is not even a drop in the vast ocean that is our potential recruiting ground. We are

convinced that if only we could get the message across more widely we could increase the

number of participants dramatically. And I am asking you to help us do just that.

I ask all of you to spread the word as far and as wide as you are able. Explain to everyone you

meet and propagate on social media the joy and sense of self fulfilment the Award journey has

brought you. You are our best ambassadors and the more you spread the word, the better you

will help us to grow the Award in India.

Pallavi Gill (Gold Award Holder) joined IAYP India as Programme Officer and is working with the Programme Team.

Pallavi has represented India at International Gold Event 2017 at Prague, Czech Republic. Pallavi has achieved the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and did internship with the National Office for over three years. Pallavi is an active Award Leader for Open Award Centre Participants and also the member of the National Training Panel.

We are sure that Pallavi’s in-depth knowledge will help us to spread the Awards Ethos in the more effective way.

Monalisa Paul - Speaker at Special Projects Dinner

Monalisa Paul (Gold Award Holder) had been invited by The Fundraising Team of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation to the International Special Projects Dinner, hosted by TRH The Earl and Countess of Wessex on 14 November 2017 as a speaker to represent India at London.

Monalisa has achieved the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and Volunteered IAYP India to develop Gender Diversity and Women Empowerment Project in the remote areas of West Bengal.

Monalisa is currently working with Tata Consultancy Services, which was a result of her excellence in the co-curricular activities she did during her Award Journey.

ü In 2017 more than one million young people around the world took part in the Award, in over 130 countries and territories. In the past sixty years, millions of young people have participated and received Awards, with millions more benefiting from its impact in communities around the world.

ü In 1988 The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Association was established to manage the growth and quality of the programme internationally.

ü The International Council is the governing body of the Association. The Council is chaired by HRH The Earl of Wessex. The work of the Association is carried out by The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation.

ü The Duke of Edinburgh`s International Award Foundation is a registered charity in England and Wales. The Foundation’s headquarters are in London and regional offices in the Americas, Africa, Asia Pacific and EMAS (Europe, Mediterranean and Arab States).

ü The Award Programme was introduced in India in 1962. In 1966 it was taken up by the Indian Public Schools Conference, when a number of schools made a start with the Programme. Currently students from over 260 institutions all over India participate in the Award Programme.

ü Having made a modest beginning in 1962 with only 500 participants per year, today this number has grown to around 12000 per year.

ü Our long term ambition is that by 2026, when The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award celebrates 70 years, every eligible young person will have the opportunity to participate in the Award.

ü Every day, more than 1,500 young people start their Award journey.

ü More than 170,000 volunteers, including Award Leaders, support young people around the world to achieve their Award.
