THE LEGENDCONTINUESHere’s to our 7th consecutive championship in the under 10 litre category at the grueling Dakar Rally. That brings our total to 25 starts, 25 finishes and 16 class wins. 2016 marked the 25th year Hino has participated and was the only Japanese manufacturer to enter this year’s rally. Proving again that Hino are the only trucks that have the quality, durability and reliability to go the distance.

Fire Helmets

One of the World’s Largest Urban Fire and Rescue Services Enhances Respiratory Protection with New Breathing Apparatus Contract with MSASYDNEY, June 23, 2016 – MSA Safety Incorporated (NYSE: MSA) announced today that it has been awarded a seven-year contract to supply, service and maintain 3,600 AirGo® eXXtreme self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW), one of the world’s largest urban fire and rescue services. Firefighters and industrial workers rely on SCBA to provide respiratory protection in life-threatening environments.

The AirGo eXXtreme SCBA features patented, single-line air hose technology, thereby reducing the number of hoses, weight and snag points for first responders. The eXXtreme SCBA harness utilizes advanced materials to reduce maintenance and the overall cost of ownership by minimizing the need to frequent replacement due to use in extreme applications. The Ultra Elite full-face mask has an undistorted field of vision, exemplary wearing comfort and clear voice communication.

While the initial contract with FRNSW is for seven years, the tender includes a five-year extension option. Representing a key competitive SCBA conversion, this contract award follows the delivery of 7,000 F1 XF Fire Helmets from MSA, which took place in 2015.

“We’re extremely pleased that FRNSW has chosen the MSA brand, and we’re proud that our equipment is helping safeguard the lives of firefighters around the world,” said Ronald N. Herring, Jr., Senior Vice President and President of MSA International. “While MSA has had a long-standing relationship with New South Wales, we understand that trust is something that must be earned every day. That’s why our mantra to firefighters around the world is, ‘When you go in…We go in with you.’ That’s the mindset that drives us and, in that spirit, it fuels our passion to continually raise the bar to protect firefighters with the best and most advanced technology available today,” Mr. Herring said.

MICHAEL HALLOWES DIRECTOR, GOVERNMENT, ENTERPRISE & EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, EARLY WARNING NETWORK – AEERIS PTY LTD.

Commercial Partnering – A smarter way to keep pace with disruptive technologies

ABSTRACTDisruptive technologies evolve so quickly that the emergency management sector needs strategic industry partners to stay ahead. In the predictive services arena, mobilising commercially operated ground and UAV survey platforms for pre-event and Rapid Damage Assessments (RDAs) is a clear example where the sector can keep pace with advancing technologies and minimise its risk of obsolescence. Partnering releases efficiencies by standing down in-house teams and outsourcing the purchase of expensive equipment that fast becomes outdated.

Commercial partnering takes advantage of the supplier’s ongoing investments in research and development and continuous improvements to equipment, training and accreditation. Agile operators like Aeeris-EWN offer the best available technologies as a scalable managed service. Working closely with the sector, and bringing experience from others, we deliver proven capabilities that evolve symbiotically.

Disruptive technologies have “evolutionised” and accelerated RDAs already for the insurance industry. We will demonstrate how, after the 2015 Pinery fires, one vehicle-borne 360x180 degree GIS camera system collected at speed all the data required for multiple stakeholders. We complemented this with imagery and telemetry captured by UAVs to provide total situational

awareness and all-angles analysis. We did the same for the Kurnell Desalination Plant after the devastating tornado. Our systems stream video live too to the Relief Centre and Incident Controllers. We also transform the data into 3D models for post-event reconstruction and immersive training. Thus, we deliver multi-functional technologies that both remove the need for multiple teams and minimise contamination and exposure to hazards.

We archive the imagery on the Cloud to create an expanding library for research into predictive services.

Strategic partnerships with industry leaders like Aeeris-EWN are the future for RDAs. We take responsibility for delivering our advanced services using accredited resources whenever and wherever required so the sector can focus its assets on protecting lives and property.

BRONNIE MACKINTOSH STATION OFFICER, FIRE & RESCUE NSW

Attraction, recruitment and retention of women into fire and emergency services

ABSTRACTHistorical documentation tells us that women have been firefighters since the early 1900’s but it took until 1972 for women to be included in the fire service alongside men. For the next 20 years around the world, the fire services of developed countries were recruiting women by various means. Predominantly this meant a government imposed quota or other positive action programs. They were all successful statistically, but evidence suggests life was often very difficult for these women and many of them left or moved into non-operational roles.

In the last 20 years, modern fire services have moved away from affirmative action programs & used targeted recruitment strategies as well as social change programs such as fire camps & cadets.

Bonnie is currently undertaking a global Churchill Fellowship to investigate the various recruitment strategies that have been implemented across a range of fire services. Bonnie primarily looked at how effective the strategies had been and their impacts on retention, promotion & inclusion.

Bonnie visited fire services in Japan, Hong Kong, India, England, France, Sweden, Canada & USA. Within these agencies Bonnie met with firefighters, officers, Chiefs, human resources staff & diversity & inclusion officers. I met with leaders who had pioneered change through the legal system, members of minority support groups, academics who had written theses on fire service culture and change agents working for a more effective & efficient fire service.

Whilst it’s impossible to make direct comparison with Australian urban fire agencies, Bonnie learnt things in every country that could benefit us here. This presentation is the visual account of Bonnie’s journey.

Next generation mobile intelligence: Enabling multi-agency collaboration to create a common operating picture and enhance community safety

JOHN WEBSTER AUDITOR, FORMALLY PRODUCT CERTIFICATION TECHNICAL AND DOCUMENTATION MANAGER, SAI GLOBAL

Understanding standards – Development, Purpose & Impact

ABSTRACT Next Generation Mobile Intelligence (NGMI) allows first responders and the command centre to share and access real-time intelligence; intuitive public safety applications enable agencies to collaborate using voice, text, imagery and video, so information can be shared on a choice of devices and across different networks to provide complete situational awareness. This presentation will discuss how rapid advances in technology are providing revolutionary capabilities for emergency response. For agencies, the ability to capture, access and securely share information can profoundly strengthen decision making with a common operating picture that improves operational and safety outcomes. Emergency services organisations in Australia and New Zealand face unprecedented change. From managing constrained resources, responding to increasingly complex events, and with natural disasters becoming more frequent and widespread, times have never been more challenging for first responders to build safer, more resilient communities.

ABSTRACTAustralia is one of the world’s leading countries in the development of standards which impact every part of our lives. We are also a major participant in the development of international standards.

The main purpose of a standard is to set a minimum performance and testing criteria for a particular product, service or function. Our discussion today will focus on product Standards.

Standards have been developed for one principle reason and that is to ensure products being used for a particular purpose are appropriate. With the use of products that are certified to a Standard, health and safety risks are minimised.

Topics Covered:• What are Standards?• Why do we have Standards?• What are the impacts of Standards?• What happens when we do not use

Standards?• What are Certified Standards?

Outcomes: The outcomes of this presentation are to raise awareness of the need to properly evaluate and select products that are certified to their appropriate Standard and performance levels so that health & safety risks are minimised as much as possible.

Discover the Rosenbauer L20-FA Combined Aerial Pumping Appliance

Discover the impressive capabilities of the Rosenbauer L20-FA Combined Aerial Pumping Appliance (CAPA) when you come to see this appliance in action. The Rosenbauer CAPA is a unique vehicle and essentially two vehicle types (Pumper and Aerial) combined into one. Combining these two vehicles vastly improves operational capability and reduces costs.

Some of the remarkable operational capabilities that you will see include the vehicle’s ability to work within small narrow areas due to the compact jacking system (only 2.500mm) as well as the vehicles ability to fully extend the ladder within only 60 seconds. The ladder also has the capability to reach 6 stories high, can be rotated 360° degrees, elevated up to 75° and lowered -22°. Watch as we step you through the ease and efficiency of using the Rosenbauer Logic Control System (LCS), Rosenbauer pump and extinguishing systems.

Plus, check out the rescue cage which can operate the ladder, hold up to 4 people, is equipped to hold a stretcher and can be opened from four different sides. For any further information on this vehicle please visit the Sasgar and Rosenbauer stand no 168 and 178.

We will launch the new ATTACK Digital Fire Training System and simulate a variety of Hose Line Drills for experienced and trainee fire fighters.

The new system permits instructors to create seats of fire anywhere training is required by creating realistic, safe and reliable fire conditions to match the various learning outcomes. The ATTACK system wirelessly connects with BullEx/Haagen SmokeGenerators

Types of drill:• BA / SCBA• hose advancement• search and rescue• initial fire attack• ventilation drills• large area search• Multi agency drills (such as underground or high-rise fires or an active

shooter type drill)• nozzle management

LOADING DOCK 1

A demonstration DC solar system will be set up, on a frame system. The solar panels will be sprayed with PV Stop coating, from a distance of 10 meters, by Jim Foran. Spraying method is from a pressurised canister [fire extinguisher]. The demonstration will show the deactivation of the solar system using a bank of light bulbs. After drying the coating will be peeled off, showing reactivation of solar system. The demonstration unit will be disassembled and area will be let in the same state as found.

The Smokeshield Live Fire Training Equipment, developed and manufactured in Denmark and Military and NSN approved was developed as a result of the need of providing a realistic yet extremely safe and environmentally friendly live fire training props. Smokeshield burners are mobile and use propane gas with virtually nil smoke or emissions. They can be SAFELY used in any location, e.g. on board ships, parking lots, public squares and in school yards to make training sessions as realistic as possible.

All types of extinguishers can be used on the Smokeshield Equipment: Water, Foam and DCP. Safe.

The Australasian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO) Road Crash Rescue (RCR) demonstration will feature a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services road rescue team perform a rescue of a manikin (simulated casualty) entrapped within a vehicle. The entrapment is created by the compression of the bodywork around the casualty which in this case is simulated by the collision of the vehicle into a standing object, a power pole.

To perform the rescue within a 30 minute timeframe, the team must winch the car clear of the pole so the rescue (disentanglement and extrication) can be undertaken.

During the demonstration, ARRO assessors will direct the team’s work whilst also providing a commentary as to the objectives and tactics being deployed by the crew.

ABSTRACTOver the years, truck manufacturers worked to meet the ever changing specification trends and market demands. Today’s trucks are expected to be safer, greener but also fully compliant with all Australian design rules and state legislative requirements.

The presentation will outline how Hino Products have developed and maintained innovative technologies to provide the Australian fire & emergency services with leading trucks; with an emphasis on the off road medium and heavy tanker solutions that Hino have assisted in the creating of by partnering with various agencies across Australia. This presentation will also give a preview of an upcoming product tailored for the Australian fire & emergency services that is currently undergoing a multi-year field test program in the Australian market.
