Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen
I am Farnaz Maghami, a student at this College since year 7, in
2009.
Since starting my Higher schooling at this college, it was obvious
to me that the holistic vision of our school community, is that
nothing is better than a united and consultative approach to
problem solving, supporting each other and our values, and being
the best we can as a an identified community within the college
as well as a real force of change within the wider community.
Ive learnt many things about leadership from my position as
House VC, more than what one can learn about in watching tedtalks (Teacher humor),
The most important lesson grasped during my time as HVC, is
that a successful leader never works on a singular basis and must
always carry a consultative attitude
A school captain is more than just a title, it means having the
values of a real leader, which includes commitment, the
willingness to serve, having a positive attitude, being
approachable, consultative and enthusiastic.
Our school song lyrics states in part come together as one
community, this reinforces the values and visions that I
personally hold.
In my 5 years I have been proud to represent the college in many
activities in and outside of school, including:sport teams,
musical performances &
debating,
as well as serving as the House-vice Captain of the Orleanshouse.
To serve is a privilege that must not be a plaything of those
who only wish to build their resumes it is about grabbing
the bull by the horn, making the tough decisions when they
need to be made and being open to being wrong and seeking
guidance when guidance is due.
Service is the little things that we do all around. Something as
simple as helping an old lady cross the road or complex and
politically charged as speaking out on behalf of the downtrodden
Asylum Seekers.

My vision for Domremy is simple: encourage and inspire all the
girls to be agents of change. To stand for the rights of the
downtrodden and make real effort to assist not only ourselves,
but also those in need.
We ARE the leaders of future; females must be inspired to be
global leaders.
I was brought up in a household, where I was taught and shown
that girls are not only equal to boys, but share all the rights and
privileges that boys do. I was shown that with encouragementand support, girls can not only achieve what boys can, but they
can supersede it.
Only yesterday, I assisted with a project, in my own small way, to
bring to the attention of Prime Minister Rudd, that the new tough
policy in sending Asylum Seekers to PNG (Papua New Guinea)
was simply unfair, unjust, inhumane and un-Australian AND as I
understand it, against Australias International obligations hadto read a few UN treaties on that one!!!
As a great global teacher once said; let your actions speak louder
than your words.
I stand here today, to ask you to give me the opportunity to walk
the walk, to lead, and show you through action, how much I care
to make a difference to this college, our community and the
attitude of our girls.
Thankyou for taking the time to listen to me
