ESL Classes Perform Play The literacy grant-based ESL classes came

together recently to perform a play titled, “Cesar Chavez: Champion of the American Farm Worker.” The students practiced for over a month and performed in front of a fantastic audience. A special thank you goes to Jennifer Latzgo for coordinating the play and to Tara Ondra and Emerson Straker for working with their students and helping them participate.

Career Trek to Jim Thorpe Several LCCC students recently went on a

Career Trek to Jim Thorpe to hear about business and tourism in Carbon County while riding the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. The group was joined by Kathy Henderson, director of economic development for Carbon County Economic Development Corp. As a huge bonus, John Thorpe, grandson of Jim Thorpe, entertained the group with fascinating stories about his grandfather’s life.

Administrator Presents at PA Latino ConventionMaryanell Biggica, LCCC’s Director of Site Educational Services-Donley Center, recently attended the PA Latino

Convention in Bethlehem. She spoke about her journey during a segment called Jose Talks. The purpose of Jose Talks is to engage the audience in stories that depict journeys as Latinos in the United States.

The PA Latino Convention is an opportunity to assemble the state’s professionals and emerging leaders to tackle issues impacting the fastest-growing segment of the population. Biggica spoke about her journey and how grateful she is to have the opportunity to help LCCC students fulfill their dreams.

Military Bingo a Success It was a full house for Military Bingo on Nov. 14, which concluded

LCCC Collegiate Award of Distinction LCCC has named Robert and Connie Wolf as the 2019 recipients of the Collegiate

Award of Distinction, which is determined each year by the college’s Board of Trustees. The award was presented to the Wolfs at a luncheon on Nov. 13.

The Board of Trustees selects the Collegiate Award of Distinction to recognize a person or organization for unique contributions to the community, service and dedication in support of education, and to honor those who have demonstrated their commitment to the college and its students. The award was established in 1991.

The Wolfs have been fervent advocates and supporters of the college for many years. They serve as board members on the Korea/Vietnam Memorial Board and were responsible for the construction of the United States Armed Forces Plaza on LCCC’s Schnecksville campus. Since the inception of the plaza in 2004, the Wolfs have coordinated an annual recognition event to honor and celebrate area veterans and their families. Pictured are Connie and Robert Wolf with LCCC Trustee Ann Thompson, who presented the award.

Honors Scholars Meet with President

Members of the college’s Honors Scholars program had the opportunity to meet with LCCC President Dr. Ann Bieber over ice cream twice in November. Students shared with Dr. Bieber their program of study and plans for transfer. Students also had the chance to share what they like about the Honors Scholars program and suggestions for changes.

The program concluded with a celebration.
