doann nguyen resignation letter

December 10, 2015 Mayor, Council, and the Constituents of Ward 4, In April of this year, I was unknowingly recorded saying embarrassingly ignorant statements about the police. In an attempt show concern for a constituent, I expressed myself poorly, and my statements were more reflective of a poor effort to sympathize with my constituent than my true opinion. In doing so, I betrayed the integrity of my civil service. Although the posting of this content was a malicious personal attack, it doesn’t change that my words were even more disparaging and damaging to the Bartlesville Police Department than they have been to myself. My words have initiated an undeserved attack on them, and my disrespectful remarks don’t acknowledge the many positive experiences I’ve had with the Bartlesville Police Department. This posted content does not provide a complete reflection of my respect for law enforcement, and I’m sorry if my comments are contributing to the hostile media that law enforcement is already battling on a national level. I’m sorry for bringing that negative tone home to Bartlesville. By these statements coming to light this past week, I understand the damage is irreparable, and I sincerely apologize to the City of Bartlesville, its police officers, and its citizens. With my resignation, I wish to take responsibility for my disparaging comments and in doing so, I hope to dissociate those comments from the City of Bartlesville and my constituents. I know that the City of Bartlesville has always demonstrated full support and solidarity with the Bartlesville Police Department and will continue to do so in the future. Sincerely, Doann Nguyen
