  • 10.6- Origins of the Cold War After World War II the US and the Soviet Union became increasingly hostile. Cold War- 1946- 1990- an era of confrontation and competition

  • Soviets - concerned with security and wanted to avoid a future attack by Germany - they wanted all countries between Germany and the Soviet Union to be under Soviet control - they believed communism was superior to capitalism

  • 1. Mutual Distrust After the Russian Revolution of 1917, the U.S. tried to overthrow the Soviet government. During World War II, Stalin was angry at the U.S. and Britain because he felt they did not help him enough during WWII. After World War II, Stalin took over Eastern Europe. He did not hold free elections. 2. Two Ideologies The U.S. was dedicated to Democracy and Capitalism. The USSR was dedicated to Communist dictatorship and the overthrow of capitalism
