• Summative Assessment: seeks to make an overall judgment of progress made at the end of a defined period of instruction.

• Formative Assessment: used by teachers and students during instruction to provide ongoing feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve students’ achievement of intended instructional outcomes.


Fair Assessments

• Benchmark Assessment: Designed to provide feedback to both the teacher and the student about how the student is progressing towards demonstrating proficiency on grade level standards.

• Diagnostic Assessment: Ascertains, prior to instruction, each student’s strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills.

The SAS Curriculum Mapping tool allows districts to determine the template for their own maps and optimizes both state-level and local resources and approaches.


The SAS Curriculum Mapping tool offers some curricular assistance (frameworks) to schools but respects local curriculum decision-making.



SAS Curriculum Maps are fully integrated with the SAS portal so that teachers can easily access the maps, save them to their own ePortfolios and have immediate access to all other components and resources of SAS
