Mission Statement

At the end of our summer program, we would like for young children to

have a better understanding of other cultures. By introducing them

with different cultural attributes such as tradition, food, language,

music, and clothing, they would leave the program with a greater

understanding of other cultures in the world. To ultimately establish a

year round summer program that continues the mission of our CAS

group would benefit El Paso by influencing as many people as possible.

Progress

We have a logo, slogan, mission statement, and a mentor

We have developed a list of activities the children can do to enhance their learning experience and make it enjoyable (reading traditional folktales, letting them see traditional clothing, playing ethnic songs, giving them recipes, etc.)

We have decided which countries to work with (France, Japan, Puerto Rico, Spain, and China)

We have some research on our countries already and know some resources we can use to research it even further

We have a daycare, KinderCare, who is willing to work with our program

The daycare has offered to provide any supplies we may need

Progress Continued

If the daycare does not work out, we have another venue we can possibly use (the Dorris van Doren Regional Library) who offered to help advertise the program

The El Paso Community College library is also interested in working with our program

We’ve established an age group we are willing to work with (3rd graders – 5th graders)

We have a date for our camp (August 6, 2012) and a general idea of its length (4-5 days)

The End!
