1. ABOUT SHIVAJI UNIVERSITY, KOLHAPUR

Heartily welcome from the Centre for Distance Education, Shivaji University,

Kolhapur! Most of you would not able to take formal education even you have

aspirations and having capacity to take higher education, due to various reasons such as

financial problems, your own business / service or various responsibilities of family.

For fulfilling the aspirations to pursue higher education Shivaji University, Kolhapur

has provided such opportunity through distance education.

The degrees which you received through distance education will be helpful for

getting the job, promotion in the present job or for appearing for the competitive

examination.

Shivaji University, established in 1962, is named after the Great Maratha Warrior

and founder of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It was inaugurated on

18th

November, 1962, by Dr. Radhakrishnan, the Eminent philosopher and educationist

then the President of India. The jurisdiction of the University is spread over three

districts, viz. Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara, with students' strength of near about 3 Lakh

studying in 293 affiliated colleges and recognized institutes under its jurisdiction, and in

40 Post-graduate Departments on the campus. The University imparts education in 4

major faculties viz Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Commerce and

Management, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Inter Disciplinary Studies (I.D.S.).

For allowing the global standards in higher education university exploring new

areas of higher learning and research such as, Industrial Chemistry, Applied Chemistry,

Space Science and Applications, Environmental Science, Bio-Chemistry, Agro

Chemicals and Pest Management, Computer Science, Environmental Biotechnology,

Electronics, Nanoscience and Technology, Yashwantrao Chavan School of Rural

Development (YCSRD) etc. in addition to the Basic Science disciplines. The University

Departments of Physics, Economics and Chemistry have been recently identified by the

UGC for Special Assistance Programme (SAP) Phase-III and recognized as

Departments of Special Assistance (DSA). New research areas in these Departments are

concentrated on the study of Superconductors, Energy, Bio-diversity, Bio-technology,

Agro-Biotechnology, Agricultural & Environmental Economics and cyber security

respectively. The University has also established the University-Industry Interaction

Cells in three districts of its jurisdiction.

The faculties of Arts and Social Sciences are also gearing up to meet the demands

of the changing time. Establishment of Centre for Women’s Studies, Gandhian Studies

Centre, School of Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Sciences, extension activities

through Life Long and Continuing Education and Centre for Community Development

(LokVikas Kendra), UGC-II sanctioned Centre for Exclusion and Inclusion for our

University only, are the indicators of this change. Department of Sociology has been

granted the UGC’s SAP-DRS phase. As well as University has signed MoU with

National and International Institutions / Organisations.

Along with above departments Centre for Women's Studies, Gandhian Studies

Centre, School of Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Sciences, extension activities

through Life Long Learning and Extention Education and Centre for Community

Development (Lokvikas Kendra), etc. are undertaking new research as well as started

new skill based short term courses.

Shivaji University is motivating students merit by introducing various scholarships

such as ‘Shivaji University Merit Scholarship’, Departmental Research Fellowship

(DRF) i.e., called as Golden Jubilee Year Fellowship etc.

University provides following facilities for on campus students such as Barr.

Balasaheb Khardekar Knowledge Resource Center, Boys and Girls Hostels and Dr.

Appasaheb Pawar Vidyarthi Bhavan (Earn and Learn Scheme), work as per need

scheme, Health Centre, Sports Complex, etc.

The efforts of the University towards excellence in higher education are being

recognised through the substantial grants received from funding agencies like UGC,

IGNOU, ICSSR, BARC, DST, DBT, CSIR, DRDO, MPCB, DEC, DAE-BRNS,

MOEFCC etc. Another indicator of our recognition is having collaboration with other

premier institutes in India. Shivaji University has MoUs with Bhabha Atomic Research

Centre, (BARC) Mumbai, Goa University, Panjim. It has also, joined hands with Indian

Institute of Geo-Magnetism, Mumbai, National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune,

Industries like Phyto-Pharma have sought affiliation with Shivaji University. Besides,

the University is becoming ‘Global’ by having MoUs with foreign institutes and

Universities like Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand), Pathumthani and Khon Kaen

University, Thailand, Sabargamuwa University, Sri Lanka, Monash University,

Melbourne (Australia), Hanyang University, Seoul, Sangkyunkwan University,

Chonnum National University, Guangju South Korea. This has opened up new vistas

for the students of Southern Maharashtra in particular and Indian students in general.

The quest for academic enrichment and pursuit of excellence of the University

are facilitated by efficient administration. The smooth conduct of about 621

Examinations per year for about 3 Lakhs students and the timely declaration of results

have been appreciated by the Hon’ble Chancellor of the University. The University has

maintained the high standards of general administration, prudent financial management

and cordial relationship with funding agencies. The University has established School of

Rural Management and Research, Institute of Biotechnology, Institute of Leather

Technology, Radio Station, Science Park, Biotechnology Park, Lead Garden, various

training schemes for the students and the staff, etc. Keeping in view the regional needs,

the need-based courses like Bachelor’s Programmes in Foundry, Pharmaceuticals, Food

Sciences, Water Resource Management, Herbal plantations, etc. are been successfully

initiated. To provide more flexibility for the students in selecting courses, the University

has introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to all post-graduate and

professional courses. The add-on courses with cafeteria approach are planned for

courses in science and professional subjects.

To sum up, the University which was founded primarily to cater to the regional

aspirations has now geared up to transcend this regional image and has emerged as one

of the premier institute of higher education and research in the country.

• To make special provision and for disseminating knowledge and

promoting arts and culture in rural areas.

• To supervise and control the conduct and discipline of the students of the

university and to make arrangements for promoting their health and

general welfare.

• To create a fine band of capable young researchers/teachers with great

thirst for knowledge and scientific curiosity.

• To promote the study and research of the Marathi language and the

history of Maharashtra.

• To provide opportunities to the University community to reach his/her

highest personnel and professional capability.

• To develop the personality and character of students by value education.

2. ABOUT CENTRE FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION (CDE)

Shivaji University Kolhapur (SUK) has external Examination system from its

beginning for those students who are not able to take conventional education. In 2005

from the grants of Distance Education Council (DEC) of Indira Gandhi National Open

University (IGNOU), New Delhi, University established Centre for Distance Education

(CDE) and its actual functioning starts from the year 2007. This external section is

converted into the CDE by offering Self Instructional Material, Contact Sessions etc.

facilities for fulfilling the students’ academic needs. CDE offers two under graduate

courses i.e. B.A. (Languages and Social Sciences) and seven post graduate programmes

those are M.A. (Languages and Social Sciences), M.Com., M.B.A. (M.Sc.

(Mathematics) and M.Com. (Valuation of Real Estate), Post Graduate Diploma in

Translation and CDE plans to start new need – based courses in future. The distance

learners opt different subjects and courses of their choice from available

programmes/courses. The centre has developed 547 Self Instructional Materials (SIM)

from the subject experts for the distance education learners self study. The degrees

students received through distance education are helpful for getting the job, promotion

in the present job or for appearing the competitive examination. Thus Centre for

Distance Education (CDE) is working in the area of Higher Education and taking efforts

to make higher education accessible to the deprived, disadvantaged and marginalized

group of society and carry the social responsibility of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

2.1 Establishment of Centre for Distance Education

All over India among the age group of 18 - 23 only 23.6% (2014 – 2015) students

are enrolled for the Higher Education. However Central Government of India is

expecting 30 % Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by 2020. Enrollment of students for

Higher Education hampers due to various hurdles such as students financial problems,

due to business or service, family responsibilities, etc. considering all these hurdles in

the enrollment of higher education Shivaji University, Kolhapur has provided

opportunity of Higher Education through the grants from Distance Education Council

(DEC) of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi (IGNOU) by establishing

the Centre for Distance Education in the year 2005 and it starts functioning from the

year 2007. Centre for Distance Education offers programme for learning as shown

2.2.1 Self Instructional Material (SIM)

Centre for Distance Education students are equipped with Self Learning

Material which is suitable for their learning style. SIM is developed by expert

teachers by using very simple language, having ample examples, with exercises for

practice.

2.2.2 Internal + External Evaluation

Internal Evaluation assignments are given to the students and these assignment

students have to submit to the study centre for its assessment. External Evaluation is

done through Theory Exam / Project Viva, etc.

2.2.3 Nearby Study Centers

Total 77 Study Centers and 2 Regional Centers have become operational for

providing services to distance learners like admissions, distribution of SIM, contact

sessions, counselling, library facilities, etc. These Study Centers are in Kolhapur,

Sangli, Satara districts.

2.2.4 Contact Sessions

Contact Sessions are organized for educational counseling for each

Objectives of the Centre for Distance Education are as follows :

To Provide educational opportunities:

To more number of distance learners from any age group.

To different sections of the society, who are for some reason unable to pursue

education and bring them into the main stream.

To the class of the society who have remained deprived because of domestic

responsibilities and social restrictions.

To the working class who choose to study at their own place and pace.

To all sections of the society irrespective of caste, religion, gender, area of origin,

social and financial status etc.

At affordable fee.

To offer courses of study along with Self Instructional Material, contact sessions,

counselling facilities, library and internet facilities through designated Study

Centers.

As per National Educational Policies requirement we need to increase Gross

Enrollment Ratio.

to provide an alternative non-formal channel for higher education.

7. Master of Commerce (M.Com.)

7.1 Eligibility Criteria:

Any person who has pass Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com.) degree of this

University or of any other University recognized by this University as equivalent

thereto may after he has worked under the guidance of a recognized University

Teacher or at least two years subsequent to his passing the Bachelor of Commerce

Examination, be admitted to the examination, for the Degree of Master of

Commerce in accordance with the relevant Regulations.

Note:-

1. Only B. Com. Students are eligible for M. Com. Programme.

2. B.B.A., B.C.A., B.C.S. Students are not eligible for M.Com. Programme

7.5 General Rules for M. Com. Programme

1. Implementation of semester system - It was decided that the semester system

should be implemented gradually as mentioned below-

M.Com. Part – I – Sem. - I & Sem. - II from Academic year 2016-17

M.Com. Part – II – Sem. - III & Sem. - IV from Academic year 2017- 18

2. Pattern of semester system – It was decided to accept 80:20 patterns for the

purpose of semester examinations.

3. Scheme of internal assessment - The committee took note of the UGC

guidelines and recommended to have continuous internal assessment for

M.Com. Programme. Internal Examination will be compulsory for all students.

If a student fails / remains absent in internal Examination then he / she will

have to clear the internal Examination in subsequent attempt/s.

The following scheme for internal assessment was prepared.

The Question paper in each semester (for each paper) shall be of 100

marks wherein 80-20 patterns will be accepted. For this purpose following will

be the pattern for internal assessment scheme i) M.Com. Part – I and II- the

80:20 Pattern will be applicable to Distance education students. However, for

internal work there will be Home assignment of 20 marks for each paper of all

semesters.

4. Duration of semester examination for each paper - The duration of

semester examination for each paper of 80 marks shall be of three hours.

5. Standard of passing- The Standard of passing shall be 40% where the student

will have to score 32 marks out of 80 (Compulsory) and 8 Marks out of 20

(optional) in each paper. There will be a combined head of passing in Theory

i.e. university exam and Internal Examination is 40 marks out of 100 marks.

6. Result - The result of each semester should be declared as Pass or Fail.

7. There will be independent Question Paper for M. Com. Distance Mode

Examination of the paper Research Methodology Paper No. VI and VIII of

100 mark (80-20). Separate Syllabus for the same is on university website.

the concerned students in this regard after which detail time table will be

2) Assignments : The candidate has to see www.unishivaji.ac.in - distance

education - assignment link, prior to one month of the exam. Candidate has

to write the assignment, note down his exam seat no. (printed on hall ticket

and also attach the photo copy of it to the Assignment) on it & send it to

8.4 Ordinances

O. M. Sc. 1 :

1.1 Any person who has taken the degree of B. Sc./B. A. of this University or the

Degree of any other statutory University recognised as equivalent, and has kept

four semester terms in the University as a post-graduate student be admitted to the

examination for the degree of Master of Science in any of these subjects mentioned

in R. M. Sc. No. 3.

1.2 A student shall be held eligible for admission to the M. Sc. Maths. Course provided

he/she has passed the B. Sc. / B. A. examination either with maths as a principle

subject or with a subsidiary/interdisciplinary/applied/allied subjects and has passed

the entrance examination conducted by the University.

1.3 The students with B. Sc. / B. A. (General Course) from other universities shall be

eligible if they qualify through entrance examination and they score minimum 55%

B+ marks in the subject at the B. Sc. examination.

1.4 While preparing the merit list for M. Sc. admission, the performance at B. Sc.

III/B. A. III or B. Sc. II / B. A. II, as the case may be, and the performance at the

entrance examination will be given equal weightage (50.50).

O. M. Sc. 2 :

2.1 In case of Mathematics, distance mode student shall be registered and admitted to

the examination of the degree of M. Sc. by papers provided the Student.

a) has passed the B. Sc. / B. A. examination of this University with Mathematics

at B. Sc. III/B. A. III or B. Sc. II / B. A. II with at least 55 per cent B+ marks

or an examination of any other statutory University.

b) has registered as a distance mode candidate for the examination and as laid

down in O. 123.

2.1 The student can register himself for Semester I and III Exams to be held in

October/November every year and for Semester II & IV Exam to be held in

April/May every year.

O. 123 :

Registration as distance mode Candidates for an examination shall be open to :

1. Persons residing in the Maharashtra state or in the state of Goa or the Districts of

Belgaum or Karwar at the time of Registration

OR

2. Women residing at any place

OR

3. A graduate of this University desirous of taking the Post-graduate Examination

distance mode irrespective of his place of residence at the time of Registration.

OR

4. Persons who are domiciled in the state of Maharashtra and have passed first year or

Part-I examination of this University provided they are in service of the Central

Government or the Maharashtra State Government.

OR

5. Marathi speaking persons who are residing outside the Jurisdiction of the Shivaji

University.

Definition No. 1 : For purpose of this ordinance the expression ‘residing’ means

continuously residing for a period of one year immediately preceding the date of

Registration as an distance mode Candidate.

Definition No. 2 : The term ‘Marathi Speaking persons’ used in rule 5 above shall

mean persons whose mother tongue is Marathi.

1.1 Candidates registered for M. Sc. (Mathematics) Degree examination as distance

mode students shall be exempted from regular attendance and keeping of the

terms of the University.

1.2 The course of studies, and the standard of passing etc. at the M. Sc. (Mathematics

Distance mode) examination will be identical with those at the M. Sc.

(Mathematics Regular)

1.3 Candidates shall have to take the examination Semesterwise.

1.4 If a student does not pass the whole examination within six years from his first

appearance, he/she shall forefeit his credit of having passed in any of the

Semester(s) and shall have to appear for the whole examination afresh. He/She

shall not be eligible to appear for all the four semester examinations at a time.

R. M. Sc. 2

The M. Sc. Degree will be awarded only after successful completion of written and

practical university examinations.

4.1 The entire course of M. Sc. shall be of 2400 marks where each semester shall have

600 marks i.e., 400 Theory + 200 Practical (except Mathematics, Statistics and

electronics). M. Sc. course in Physics (Applied Electronics) and Electronics

Sciences and other subjects shall have four/five theory papers (each 80 marks) for

each semester, while for M. Sc. Mathematics shall constitute five theory papers

of 120 marks each. (For theory 90 and internal 30 marks.)

4.2 The examination for the M. Sc. Degree shall be of four Semester (i.e. Sem. I,

Sem. II, Sem. III & Sem. IV)

4.3 The commencement and conclusion of each semester shall be notified by the

University from time to time.

4.4 There shall be a University examination for theory and practical at the end of each

Semester. The evaluation of theory & Practical examination shall be done by

internal as well as external examiners.

4.5 In each Semester there shall be 5 theory courses for Physics (Applied Electronics),

Electronic Sciences, Statistics and Mathematics while there shall be 4 theory

courses for other subjects. Each paper shall be of three hours duration. The

Semester theory examination shall be conducted as under:

4.6 A student who has passed semester examination shall not be allowed to take the

examination in the same Semester again.

4.7 The student is allowed to keep term in the third semester even if he/she fails in

three heads of University Exam. Part-I (Sem.-I & II) taken together.

4.8 The result shall be declared at the end of each semester examination as per

University Rules.

R. M. Sc. 5 :

On a new application bering forwarded, a candidate who has passed the

examination of the M. Sc. Degree may present himself again for the same on subsequent

occasion, subject to the following condition :

If he/she has passed in one subject, he/she may appear in another subject. The

conditions regarding keeping of four terms and choice of subject specified in O. M. Sc.

1 shall apply for every such reappearance also.

R. M. Sc. 6 :

On a new application being forwarded and fresh fee paid, a candidate who has once

passed the M. Sc. examination will be allowed to appear in additional papers or optional

group of special papers, provided he/she keeps fresh terms of the new papers. A student

passing in this manner shall be awarded only a certificate to that effect and shall be

considered competent in the respective specializations.

R. M. Sc. 7 :

Two more chances within the span of two years following the regular batch

examination of the old course will be given to the students.

R. M. Sc. 8 :

Person who hold a pass or second class at the M. A./M. Sc. Degree and wish to

appear for the same examinations in the same subjects in order to improve their

class to secure B+ class shall be allowed to do so as per the following provisions.

8.1 The concession to reappear will be available only to :

(a) the holders of the Master’s Degree of this University irrespective of their

residence.

(b) any Higher Secondary School/Junior College/Senior College Teacher working

in the Shivaji University area, irrespective of the University of which he/she

holds the degree.

8.2 Persons holding M. A. / M. Sc. Degree of this University in the pass class or

second class and desirous of reappearing for the same examination for

improvement of class shall be given three chances to do so within a period of six

years from his/her passing the said examination in the pass class or second class.

The Teacher in Junior College intending to reappear under these rules will have

three chances to improve his/her class within a period of six years from the date of

his/her appointment.

8.3 Where the examination is held in parts, appearance for all the four semesters at a

time is not allowed. A student in Science subjects shall have to appear for Semester

I, III and IV in October/November and Semesters II and IV examinations in

April/May.

8.4 The result shall be declared at the end of each Semester.

8.5 If a person appears for the first part/Semester I and III and fails, or obtains less than

the required marks, he/she will either have to appear for the second part/Semester II

and IV and obtain the necessary marks for the improvement of the class in the

whole examination or will have to declare that he/she has lost one chance.

8.6 A candidate intending to re-appear at M. Sc. / M. A. examination under these rules,

shall be allowed to do so without keeping fresh terms.

8.7 a) For Science subjects in which Semester system is implemented, a candidate

intending to re-appear at the M. Sc. examination under these rules, may appear

for Semester I and III examination in October and for Semester II and IV

examination in April provided he/she will have to complete his semester II and

IV examination within a period of six years from his passing the examination

in the pass class or second class. a candidate will have to appear for the

Semester I and III examinations first under this scheme.

b) A candidate shall have to appear for the practical examination also along with

the theory papers of the concerned Semester examination.

c) A candidate who has passed M. A. / M. Sc. examination held in the month of

October/November shall not be allowed to register his name for the immediate

next April examination under this scheme.

8.8 a) A candidate intending to re-appear for the M. A./M. Sc. examination of this

University under these rules shall be governed by the rules and regulations

relating to the course and syllabi which may be prescribed by the University

from time to time. It is entirely the responsibility of the candidate to ascertain

that the papers be chooses are a part of a syllabus in force and are actually

taught for the said examination.

b) A candidate is required to get his/her name registered as distance mode

student by submitting the prescribed registration form along with the

necessary certificates and fees within the prescribed date under this scheme.

8.9 a) The result of the candidate appearing for the M. A. / M. Sc. examination under

these rules will be declared only if he passes the whole examination in a class

higher than the class he possesses. The marks obtained by the candidate whose

class is not improved will be made known to him on request and on payment

of the prescribed fees. So also, the statement of marks for his/her Semester

examination will be issued on payment of prescribed fees.

b) A candidate offering eight papers at a time will not be allowed to claim credit

of any one part for any of the future chances and exemption of the papers is

not allowed under this scheme.

c) The answer books of the candidates appearing under this scheme can be

verified and revalued as per the University rules.

8.10 A candidate re-appearing for M. A. / M. Sc. examination under these rules and

obtaining B+ class shall not be eligible to appear again for the same

examination in the same subject or subjects for securing a class higher than the

B+.

8.11 A candidate passing any of the Post-graduate examinations mentioned above under

these rules shall not be eligible to receive any prizes, scholarships, etc. instituted by

the University and he/she shall also not be entitled to a merit certificate from the

University.

8.12 If a candidate is unable to get a higher class under this scheme, his/her previous

performance in the corresponding examination shall hold good.

8.13 A candidate who improves his class under this scheme shall have to surrender his

‘Pass Class Degree Certificate’ to the Shivaji University. In the absence of this the

Degree under the ‘Improvement of Class Scheme’ will not be conferred on him.

9. Standard of Passing

The standard of passing shall be 40%, where the student shall have to score 36

marks in theory out of 90 & 12 marks in home assignment out of 30. The students

should score 48 marks out of 120 to pass the paper. But student should score

minimum 36 marks in theory paper out of 90 marks. If a student does not submit

home assignment & he/she scores 48 marks in theory paper, he will be declared as

pass.

10. Equivalence of papers and chances for the students in 100/120 marks for

theory paper – Two additional chances shall be given for the repeater students of

the 100/120 marks theory paper. After this, the concerned students will have to

appear for examination as per the equivalent paper given under semester system.

9. MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

In the post-globalisation period, there has been a huge requirement of trained and

well-qualified manpower with a MBA degree to cater to the needs of manufacturing and

service organisations. Further, the already employed professionals in manufacturing and

service organisations, but who do not have an MBA degree, have also a great need to

upgrade their qualifications by acquiring an MBA degree through specilization. In view

of this, the Centre for Distance Education, Shivaji University, Kolhapur has introduced

M.B.A. Course in the specilization.

� M.B.A. Programme

9.1 Master of Business Administration Course

9.1.1 Why M.B.A.

Potential to grow as the M.B.A. programme can be completed while continuing

with one’s employment.

Main idea is to cater to the requirement of those who could not attend the regular

M.B.A. due to various constraints such as employment, lack of time to attend the

regular fulltime course etc.

The target groups are employees in institutes of higher education, banks and

insurance, service organisations, SMEs and other business organisations interested

in future education in Management.

9.1.2 Aims of the Programme

To strengthen the theoretical and conceptual knowledge base of executives.

To help the executives to improve decision making skills, creative and logical

thinking.

To improve analytical ability, problem solving skills and judgmental ability.

9.1.3 Reference to the Distance Education mode in the Certificate Issued

On successful completion of the course, the certificate issued would have clearly

indicated that the M.B.A. course was completed by the concerned student in the

Distance mode.

9.1.4 Duration of the Programme

The duration of the course is divided into four semesters of equal duration. There

will be semester end examination in December and April/May for each of the semesters,

besides that in each semester, a student has to complete the internal assignment (term-

work) as prescribed by the Centre for Distance Education.

The minimum qualification is graduation in any discipline from any recognized

university with 50% for open category and minimum 45% marks for reserved

Entrance Test will be conducted for admission to the M.B.A. Programme in

May/June.

9.3.2 Entrance Test Syllabus

The MBA Entrance Test will consist of 100 objective questions on aptitude,

comprehension, numerical and verbal ability, data interpretation, judgment etc.

9.3.3 Entrance Test Venues

The exact Entrance Test centre location(s) and changes if any in the test schedule

would be displayed on the University website at www.unishivaji.ac.in.

9.3.4 Entrance Test Merit List

The Entrance Test Merit List will be displayed on the university website

www.unishivaji.ac.in.

9.3.5 How to register for the Entrance Test

Registering for the Entrance Test, the candidates should use only the online

application form available at online.unishivaji.ac.in

Candidate should take care while filling the online application form and provide

their detailed postal address, including landmarks, house name / number, pin code etc.

and any written communication may not reach him/her in time or may be returned back

without delivery as “addressee not found” etc.

The candidate should also provide his/her mobile number, e-mail id in the online

form. The candidate should choose an Entrance Test centre only from the Test Centres

offered by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Once a Test Centre is chosen, change of

Test Centre will not be permitted.

9.3.6 Hall Ticket

On printing the completed online application form, the hall ticket is also printed

along with the online form.

9.3.7 Declaration of Entrance Test Merit List

Candidates should check the University website www.unishivaji.ac.in for the date

of declaration of Entrance Test merit list, date of admission counseling, changes in

entrance exam date and/or time (if any) and any other relevant issues.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to check from time to time, the university

website for merit list, admission counseling dates, exam schedule etc.

The Centre for Distance Education, Shivaji University will not contact the

candidates individually.

9.3.8 Instructions and contact with Candidates

Any other instructions regarding Entrance Test timetable and any other pertinent

instructions/information will be displayed on the university website. Candidates will

not be informed on an individual basis through e-mail, SMS, telephonically etc., though

an attempt will be made to send SMS. In case of any difficulty, candidates may contact:

9.3.9 Documents required to be attached with the Entrance Test application form

Other than the duly completed and printed online application form, original

certificates should not be enclosed along with the application form. All relevant

original certificates, documents have to be produced at the time of the Admission

Counselling before provisional admission is granted.

Following documents have to be enclosed with the form:

� Original printed online application form duly completed and signed.

� Attested copy (True copy) of the Graduation Mark list. The Mark list should

clearly indicate the percentage (%) marks obtained by the candidate at the

graduation level. In case the student has obtained the graduation qualifications after

multiple attempts, one attested copy each of all such Mark list(s) should be

enclosed.

� Attested copy (True copy) of the Reserved Category Certificate issued by the

competent authority. (If applicable latest Non-Creamylayer Certificate)

� Two passport size photographs have to enclosed with the application form. One

photograph should be pasted on the application form and signed across by the

candidate. The second photograph should be stapled to the application form.

� Attested copy (True copy) of the Transference Certificate and/or Migration

Certificate as applicable issued by the competent authority.

� Undertaking in the prescribed format if a copy of the Transference Certificate

and/or Migration Certificate cannot be provided when applying. The undertaking

format is given at the end of this prospectus.

� Entrance Test fees students have to pay through online gateway only.

� Entrance Test Exam form’s Hard Copy, online gateway payment receipt and

above mentioned documents etc. should be submitted by the students..

9.3.10 Candidate’s Responsibility

It is the candidate’s responsibility to ensure that the correct amount of Entrance

Test fees are paid and that the completed form with the specified documents reaches to

above address on or before the due date.

The Centre for Distance Education, Shivaji University, Kolhapur assumes no

responsibility for late submission, loss in transit, incomplete documentation etc.

9.3.11 Late fees

The date of receipt at the Inward Section, of Centre for Distance Education,

Shivaji University, Kolhapur will be the reference date to decide the quantum of late

fee if any. The date of posting/courier is irrelevant for deciding the late fees, hence the

candidates are advised to send the application form with all specified documents at the

earliest possible.

If the online payment is not inclusive of the late fee or if the amount send is short

of the required fees as applicable, the candidate should pay the late fee at the earliest

possible. Failure to do this, would result in the candidate’s name not being included in

the final merit list irrespective of the marks obtained in the Entrance Test.

Collection of prospectus for candidates submitting the form in person:

i) Candidate or his/her representative can collect the prospectus from the consumer

store located within the Shivaji University campus upon the presentation of the 2nd

original cash receipt.

ii) For candidates submitting through post/courier, may collect the prospectus at the

time of the Entrance Test, after they have collected the original payment receipt

from the MBA co-ordinator’s office.

iii) No Provision for sending prospectus through post/courier to candidates applying

via the post.

9.3.12 Mandatory requirement of Transference Certificate and/or Migration

Certificate

It is mandatory for candidates who gain provisional admission to provide the

Transference Certificate and / or Migration Certificate at the time of admission

counseling or within 30 days from the date of the provisional admission, failing

which the candidate’s provisional admission would be summarily cancelled and fees

paid by the candidate will not be refunded.

� the candidate has to provide Transference Certificate if the educational institution

where the candidate had last enrolled/registered is affiliated to Shivaji University,

Kolhapur.

� the candidate also has to provide a Transference Certificate and a Migration

Certificate, if the educational institution where the candidate had last

enrolled/registered is not affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

� In case, the candidate had last/earlier enrolled/registered with one of the

Departments of Shivaji University, he/she has to give an application to the relevant

department for sending the Transference Certificate and/or Migration Certificate

(as applicable) to the Centre for Distance Education.

Candidates who cannot provide the Transference Certificate and/or Migration

Certificate (as applicable) when applying or at the time of the admission counseling will

be given provisional admission and will have to provide an undertaking in the

prescribed format provided at the end of this prospectus, that he/she will provide the

required Transference Certificate and/or Migration certificate within 30 days from the

date of the provisional admission, failing which such candidates provisional admission

will be summarily cancelled and fees will not be refunded.

9.3.13 Verification of Documents

Candidates have to produce all original certificates/documents (as applicable)

including Mark list(s), Reserved Category Certificate, Experience Certificates, Salary

slips etc as issued by the competent authority at the time of admission counseling.

Each candidate with a change in name and/or surname (in particular female

not been completed) have to use their maiden name / earlier name while filling the

online form.

Only in case the due process for change in name, as per the relevant rules of Shivaji

University has been completed then the changed name can be used for completing the

forms, but the relevant original order (and an attested photocopy) permitting change of

name has to presented at the time for admission counseling.

Candidates desirous of getting their names changed should approach (at a later

stage after obtaining admission) the Statement Section, Examination Department of

Shivaji University for completing the change in name process.

9.3.16 Need for English fluency

The course is conducted only in English language hence the student would be

required to be fluent in English.

9.3.17 Resolution Regarding the Conflicts/Disputes

If there are any conflicts or disputes then the decision of Director, Centre for

Distance Education and authorities of Shivaji Universities will be final.

9.5 Examination & Fee Structure

9.5.1 Pattern of Examination for each subject

� External Examination (Theory) - 80 Marks.

� Internal Assessment (Assignments) - 20 Marks

The duration of external examination will be of 3 hours.

The internal assignment marks would be based on the assignments, centrally

administered by the Centre for Distance Education for all the Study Centres.

Only for the subject “Project Report and Viva” of fourth semester, the internal

assessment would be for 50 marks and the external examination in the form of Viva

Voce would be for 50 marks.

9.5.2 Passing Rules

1. For each subject, there is a separate passing criterion for Internal Assignment

(Termwork) and the University Examination, i.e. in each subject, a student has to get at

least 8 out of 20 internal assessment and 32 out of 80 in University Examination.

The Internal Assignment questions for all semesters and all subjects would be

displayed on the University website with the last date of submission at the appropriate

Study Centre clearly indicated.

In case a student fails to submit/does not submit the complete required set

/submits after the specified date the Internal Assessment part, he/she would be declared

failed for those particular subject(s) and would have to submit the Internal Assessment

for those particular subject(s) after registering for the next examination for those

subjects again.

The Internal Assessment submitted should be as per the latest internal assignment

questions displayed and not as per the internal assignment questions displayed in the

previous semester.

2. Minimum 50% of marks in aggregate is required.

The most recent marks would be considered for awarding of class.

3. A student who had registered for the Semester-I will be allowed to continue

for the Semester-II even if he fails in / remains absent for all subjects in Semester-I.

Similarly, a student who had registered for the Semester-III will be allowed to

continue for the Semester-IV even if he fails in / remains absent for all subjects in

Semester-III.

4. For admission to MBA – Part-II [Semester-III], a candidate must have cleared

all papers of Semester-I and II or at least 12 papers of Semester-I and II combined.

5. Award of Class is based on the aggregate marks obtained by the student.

9.5.3 Programme Fees

The students should pay the fees for Semester-I & Semester-II together and

Semester-III and Semester-IV together at the time of registration/admission in

June/July.

9.5..6 Admission cancellation and refund of fees

Candidates should note that provisional admission is granted on payment of

fees as appropriate. If a student cancels the provisional admission at a later stage,

fees will be refunded after due process as per Admission Cancellation and Fee

Refund rules framed by Shivaji University.

9.5..7 Declaration of results of the semester examinations

Results of a particular course are normally declared (barring unforeseen

10. P. G. Diploma in Translation

The course is dealing with translation from and into English, Marathi and Hindi of

scientific papers, legal documents, literary work, news items, letters, proposals, reports

etc.

10.1 Eligibility for Admission

1. Any graduate can take admission

2. T.C./M.C. is not required

3. If the distance learner is pursuing regular P. G. Course, bonafide from the

institution is required

4. If the distance learner is employed, certificate from the employer certifying

employment is required.

10.2 Required Documents

1. Xerox copies of degree passing certificate and degree mark list should be

attached with the application form (Attested Xerox copies)

10.3 Nature of Course

The course comprises of 400 marks

Three theory papers of 100 marks each and project and viva-voce of 100 marks

( 70 marks Project and 30 marks Viva-Voce)

10.7 Standard of Passing

1. In theory papers Minimum Passing standard is 40% marks are to be obtained

2. In Project and Viva-Voce the same passing standard is applicable i.e. 40% Passing

i.e. 28 marks out of 70 in Project work and 12 marks out of 30 in Viva-Voce are

necessary for passing.

10.8 Language of Answer

The students are allowed to write answers in any one of the languages, i.e. Marathi

or Hindi or English

10.9 Self Instructional Material

The self Instruction Material (SIMs) are developed in Marathi language.

10.10 Future/Career

After completing the P.G. Diploma in Translation Course, the students will be

eligible for appointment as translator in government offices, private firms or they can

independently pursue the profession of Translator.

10.12 Rules and regulations:

1. The students have to take admission in Centre for Distance Education (CDE) office,

Kolhapur only.

2. The distance learners of P. G. Diploma in Translation have to attend the contact

sessions arranged in the CDE building Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

3. Theory Papers examination will be conducted in the CDE building Kolhapur.

4. The students have to complete the Project work under the guidance of allotted

project guide.

5. The completed project, signed by the project guide is to be submitted before the

theory examination starts. (Two copies)

6. After the approval of project work by the external examiner, Viva-Voce will be

conducted in CDE building. The students have to face the Viva-Voce.

7. If the external examiner does not approve the project work or suggests some

changes, the student should resubmit the project work accordingly. If the

performance of the student is not found satisfactory in the Viva-Voce he/she should

give the performance again according to the suggestions of the experts.

8. When the result of Project & Viva-Voce is ready then only the result will declared.

9. The fee will be charged according to the fee structure at the time of admission.
