The Timing Is Right For Coproduction Business In Africa

There’s never been a better time to approach the future of entertainment and educational content coproduction in Africa with confidence.

• Africa is set to transition from a massive importer to producer of content that is far more locally relevant.

• Strengthening domestic demand for home-grown content will boost regional partnerships.

• Increased overseas’ interest in content made in Africa is fueling export business opportunities as well as international players’ interest in building relationships.

DISCOPRO: The Ultimate Coproduction Forum Centered On Africa

Designed to meet the ambitions of new generations of independent multiscreen content producers, the annual DISCOPRO forum will deliver superfast growth opportunities centered on Africa.

Africa is fueled by young populations, rising advertising markets, rapid digital switchover processes, strong broadband and mobile penetration, and continued growth in multiscreen television viewing and Pay TV subscription revenues.

Special DISCOPRO HighlightsThe DISCOPRO inaugural edition’s overall program will also feature highlights covering areas of special focus:

SAMBA!The Brazilian TV Producers Association (BTVP) will lead talks on coproduction opportunities with Brazil.

THE BEAUTIFUL GAMESThe opportunities of sports content production and program-ming in advance of the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

AFRICAN HARMONYThe expanding market for music programs created in Africa.

BOLLYWOOD DIASPORAOverview of the Indian diaspora residing in Africa and potential partnerships between India and Africa.

FORMATS FROM AFRICAThis pitching competition seeks and promotes original TV formats created in Africa, which can begin as local successes and end up as international hits. Eligible independent producers are invited to forward original submissions that have local, regional and international appeal. The producers of the top submissions will pitch at DISCOPRO in front of a live audience and a panel of top African and international format experts. Winners will get prizes that in 2012 included a development deal with a major South African format company as well as a development budget.

MULTISCREEN ONLINE SCREENING LIBRARYFilm and TV content presented by independent producers will be showcased on DISCOPRO’s multi-platform, seamless, screening application that will serve as an automated and interactive screening hub for content buyers before, during and after DISCOPRO.

The 3-day DISCOPRO forum will mix fund-raising, distribution and hands-on training opportunities:

• Meetings will be organized in-house on behalf of producers. Producers submit eligible projects seeking funding, and are paired up with qualified content buyers, sales agents and commissioning executives.

• Producers can provide finished content for advance online screenings by buyers through a secured server.

• A fast-track informative program of panel discussions, workshops, training sessions, and case studies will help participants develop practical survival skills, build relations, access game-changing information and navigate the terrain.

DISCOPRO will also place a strong emphasis on under- standing coproduction treaties between countries with emerging creative industries, and on incentives and tax rebates designed to help balance development, production, post-production and marketing budgets.
