Disaster risk education for adults- Japanese government recommends the development of disaster risk education in community formunicipal education boards. - Experts join the activity for disaster risk education, utilizing the facilities for socialeducation.- Distribution or lending of the brochures, DVDs and videos for disaster risk education

2. Dissemination of research outcomes on disaster reductiontechnologies (implemented by MEXT)

- Special project for dissemination of research outcomes on disaster reduction technologies (2004FY~2006FY) - Seminar on earthquake (1996FY~)

1. Video for disaster risk education- The education board of Mie Prefecture published videos for disaster risk education in cooperation with the department of disaster reduction.

- Three videos (for elementary school, junior high school and senior high school)

2. Guidebook and sub-textbook- The education board of Mie Prefecture made guidebooksfor disaster risk education for teachers and students, and published a sub-textbook for disaster risk education entitled“Asitanotameni” based on the experience of Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.

3. Lesson and experiment byexperts of disaster prevention

- Experts of Mie Prefecture give lessons and experiments on disaster risk education to students and their parents at school.(Soil liquefaction, Retrofitting building and furniture, etc.)

4. Earthquake experience by utilizing special cars- There are three special cars entitled “Taikenkun”, “Oyurego”and “Sonaechan”, where students can experience the shock of earthquake.

5. Drill for disaster prevention- Drill for disaster prevention is implemented about 3 times a year at each school in Mie Prefecture.

(1) Pick-up drill- Parents pick up their children fromteachers at school in time of disaster.

(2) Drill with community- Outdoor cooking, fire fighting and smoke experience with community and parents.

(3) Shelter experience- Evacuation experience at shelter.

6. Student’s activities(1) Town watching

- What places in community are vulnerable or safe for natural disasters?- Where are the evacuation places in community?

(2) Mapping for disaster prevention- Let’s draw vulnerable areasand evacuation areas against natural disasters!

(3) Publication and exhibition of study outcomes at school - Study outcomes about natural disasters are demonstrated at cultural festivals at school.

7. First aid in time of disaster- Students of junior and senior high schools learn about the first aid in time of disaster in cooperation with the fire station.
