Department of Distance Education Interested applicants are advised to check the available course units from Heads of Departments in their areas of competence in the above mentioned faculties before applying. a) Job Purpose: To develop and impart relevant professional knowledge and skills to students on a part time basis. b) Key duties & Responsibilities: The part time lecturer will report to the Head of Department and perform the following duties: i. Prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials in the allocated discipline. ii. Develop, prepare, select and use instructional materials and teaching aids. iii. Carry out continuous assessment and student performance evaluation. iv. Set, administer and mark assignments, tests and examinations. v. Compile and submit examination results and other reports to the Head of Department on time. vi. Supervise students’ research projects and fieldwork. vii. Offer academic and professional advice to students. viii. Handle any other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time. c) Qualifications: At least a Masters degree in the relevant discipline and one year of teaching, research, or other working experience. d) Remuneration: Part Time Lecturers shall be paid on an hourly rate for lecturers delivered and other duties assigned. Rates paid per hour vary from department to department. e) Mode of application: Please submit your Application, Photocopies of Academic Certificates and Transcripts. St. Joseph’s Technical Institute-Virika, a Catholic founded Private Technical Institute in Fort Portal Municipality held its 5th Graduation ceremony on 21st June 2013 at the Institute campus

Kinyamasika. 259 students graduated with craft and Advanced certifi cates in Mechanical Engineering, Motor vehicle Mechanics, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical Installation, Bricklaying, Plumbing, Tailoring, Hair dressing and Computer studies.

The Guest of Honour was the Rt. Rev Dr. Robert Muhiirwa, the Bishop of Fort Portal Diocese who encouraged the graduates to save their money in banks for investments.The Principal Mr. Mirembe Edfson encouraged the graduands to live responsibly and to go for further studies. He requested the Government to extend the program of Universal Post Ordinary Level Education and Training (UPOLET) to the Institute since it is the only institute serving the districts of Kabarole, Kyenjonjo, Kamwenge, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko for the youths in the region to benefi t from government programs.

He called upon the District leadership to support Technical and Vocational education and attend such functions.He said that the Institute has begun fabricating brick moulding machines in addition to production wind, water and bicycle electricity generators.

He regretted Uganda’s fi rst policy-makers who postulated in policy documents that when one failed to get admission into the mainstream secondary school system; then, the other alternatives were to go to a technical or vocational school. He called upon Ugandans to embrace technical and vocational education to make unemployment cries a history.

The function was attended by Professor Kasenene the Vice Chancellor Mountain of the Moon University, The Chairman Board of Governors Engineer Patrick Rusongoza among others.
