1.1 Towef0 in a glimpse

A project inscribed in the framework of EU funded LIFE projects

A software tool for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for textile industry

A software designed to inform and assist decision making concerning textile waste water treatment and recycling

A software designed to handle discreet time-frames, corresponding to production lots.

1.1 Towef0 in a glimpse

The software accounts for Textile manufacturing processes

where water is used Treatment of process water and

wastewater in textile manufacturing Selected general processes

The scope includes Operation of the textile plant and

on-site water treatment plant Production of consumables used by

the plants Off-site treatment and landfilling of

waste waters, sludge and biogas Incineration with or without energy

recovery

1.2 Overview of the 4 types of user profiles

1 - Administrator To create, modify information

on users or delete users

2 - Process Expert To create the processes

relevant to the project, using the generic textile industry processes and wastewater treatments modelled in Towef0

To modify an existing process

3 - Project Manager To build the project’s system called

‘project’ in the software by assembling the processes/treatments created

To create and modify these projects based on the created processes/treatments

To create and modify the project’s scenarios

To define and modify the contents of reports on the calculated LCA inventories

To launch single or comparison reports using the defined reports

4 - User To create and modify scenarios To launch single or comparison

calculations

4.2.1 Scenarios in a project

When you create a project, the first step that must be done is to define a reference scenario, on which the future scenarios will be based

Once created, the reference scenario must be validated

Once the reference scenario validated, you can create and manage others scenarios which will be based on the reference scenario

Note : The reference scenario models the project’s system. It is built by assembling the relevant processes/treatments created by the process expert

4.2.1.1 The reference scenario

First step: Creation of process Select a type of process in the list

(or select the characteristics and then a process)

Click on the "Add" button A new line is created in the

selected type of process with a blank space

Fill the name of your process in this blank space

When you have finish to create your processes, click on the "submit" button to save them

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

The tool has been designed to run on a Window NT Server, with Internet Explorer 5.5.

1. Installation of EasyPhp 1.5 The tool uses Php and MySQL

database. It has been designed and successfully tested using EasyPhp.

EasyPhp is a complete software package allowing to use all the power and the flexibility that offers the dynamic language Php and the efficient use of databases. Package includes an Apache server, a MySQL database, and a fully Php execution.

You can download EasyPhp at: http://www.easyphp.org/telechargements.php3

Once EasyPhp has been installed, you need to modify the apache configuration file httpd.conf (typically in C:\EasyPhp\apache\conf):

- Choose a document root path, e.g. C:\EasyPhp\www

- Ensure that web server address is correct (IP number)

Page 102: Direction for use Version 1.1 12 th of March 2004

102

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

In the Php.ini (in the WINNT folder), set max_execution_time to 0.

In EasyPhp configuration page (right click on the ), choose the option "Start with windows"

2. Installation of Towef0 The server should have a fully

functional and licenced version of TEAMTM, the Ecobilan LCA tool. Make sure that TEAMTM is properly functionning. If not, please refer to TEAMTM user manual or contact Ecobilan at [email protected].

Note: the impact assessment database must be called effets3.mdb

In the "www" folder, copy the folder "Towef0" of the CD-ROM.

Page 103: Direction for use Version 1.1 12 th of March 2004

103

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

In the folder "include", edit the file functions_Stack_Calculations.php and make sure that the paths are correctly defined.

You need to register manually the file ImpactDll.ocx (in www/towef0):

- Open a DOS window from the location of the file ImpactDll.ocx (in \www\towef0)

- Type in the DOS window the instruction regsvr32 ImpactDll.ocx

Page 104: Direction for use Version 1.1 12 th of March 2004

104

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

In the "www" folder, copy the folder "test" of the CD-ROM.

3. Creation of the database in MySQL Make sure that EasyPhp is

running (Blinking in the right corner of the Window toolbar)

Launch Internet Explorer (IE) and type "localhost" in the IE address bar. The EasyPhp home page should appear.

Click then on "PhpMyAdmin"

Page 105: Direction for use Version 1.1 12 th of March 2004

105

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

The administration page of MySQL should appear.

In the databasemysql, the following data should be enter in the user table:

HOST: localhost USER: towefo PASSWORD:

420ea75a7dbcbc9d All other fields: N

Create a new database named towefo, and a new database named towefo_generale.

Page 106: Direction for use Version 1.1 12 th of March 2004

106

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

4. Installation of the ODBCMySQL driver On the CD-ROM, you will find a

zip file named "myodbc-2.50.39-nt.zip"

To install this driver, unzip the file in a folder, and execute the setup.exe.

Once the driver is installed, you must create an ODBC link with the Towef0 database

Go into the configuration parameters window

Select DataSources (ODBC)

You need to link the user towefo of the database mysql to the database towefo. In the table db of the database mysql, insert the following:

HOST: localhost DB: towefo% USER: towefo All other fields: Y

To build the content (tables) on the databases needed by Towef0, run the MySQL queries stored on the CD-ROM, called towefo.sql and towefo_generale.sql.

107

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

5. Launch calc_towefo.exe In the folder www/test/towefo,

launch the executable calc_towefo.exe

The installation of Towef0 is finished.

Click on New Select MySQL driver in the list Click on Finish, and fill in the

following fields: DSN name: towefo MySQL host: localhost MySQL database name:
