My visit to the National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. was one of the most exciting trips I have taken. I was

amazed at all the effort and money that has gone into the interesting exhibits, fossil displays, and presentations. In the lobby of the museum, a huge elephant exhibit greets those who visit. Admission to the museum is free, because the taxes that U.S. citizens pay are used to fund much of the work done in the museum.

Huge dinosaur fossils, magnificent columns of information, and flying reptiles hanging from the ceiling were just a few of the interesting things on display. I only spent about half of a day in the museum, but there is so much information it could take days or weeks to see everything.

I was in the museum long enough, however, to discover one very important but disappointing fact: the National Museum of Natural History is dedicated to teaching children (and adults) about evolution. Almost every exhibit had false infor-mation about the age of the Earth, humans com-ing from monkey-like animals, the Big Bang, and countless other false ideas. There was even a large theater named the Evolution Theater with a movie

about how humans

supposedly evolved from a rodent.

It is wonderful to study the natural world around us. The apostle Paul said that we can look at the natural world and know that there is a powerful, eternal God (Romans 1:20). The design found in our amazing Universe shows us that God’s intelligence is far above anything that we humans have. It is sad when people fail to give credit to God for His creation. It is also sad that our National Museum of Natural History does not teach the truth that God created the Universe.

In this issue of Discovery, we will be looking at many of the things I saw in the museum that teach evolution. We are going to explore why these evo-lutionary ideas are false. I hope that after reading this issue, you will be pre-pared so that, if you ever get to go to the National Museum of Natural History or other places where evo-lution is being taught, you will know the truth.

If you are anything like me, you love to see dino-saur fossils. It is amazing to see the huge horns of Triceratops, monster teeth of Tyrannosaurus rex,

and funny duck-shaped bills of the hadrosaurs. These amazing creatures are unlike any animal alive today, and it is always fun to learn new things about how big they probably were, what they may have eaten, or how they protected themselves from predators.

Because dinosaurs are so interesting, they are often used to teach incorrect ideas about evolution. The dinosaur fossils in the Natural History Museum certainly are used in this way. According to the exhibits, dinosaurs evolved on the Earth about 200 million years ago and lived until about 65 million years ago. Supposedly, the dinosaurs were killed by the effects of a huge asteroid hitting the Earth. It is also suggested that some dinosaurs may have evolved into birds. Furthermore, according to the museum, humans did not evolve until about 3-5 million years ago and were separated from dinosaurs by millions of years.

Several problems exist with the information taught about dinosaurs. We know that humans and di-nosaurs lived together in the past. Several past issues of Discovery show rock carvings, stone artwork, and ancient animal descriptions that match dinosaurs perfectly. In fact, in the biblical book of Job, a creature named behemoth is described that matches the description of a huge plant eating dinosaur. Also, the Nat-ural Bridges National Monument contains an ancient Indian carving that matches an Apatosaurus perfectly.

The Bible also tells us that God created all the land animals on day six of the Creation week (Genesis 1:24-31). On that same day, the Bible says that God created Adam and Eve, the

first humans. Adam and Eve were not sepa-rated from the dinosaurs by millions of years.

They were created on the very same day as the dinosaurs. The Bible also says that God created the

birds on day five of Creation (Genesis 1:20-23). There would be no way for birds to evolve from dinosaurs, be-

cause they were created before dinosaurs. Even though some of the information about dinosaurs that is taught at the Natural

History Museum is correct, like their bone size and physical features, the information about the age of the dinosaurs is sim-ply not right.

Probably one of the most disturbing ideas presented in the museum is the false notion that humans evolved from lower mammals. In front of the Evolution Theater, there is a “monument” to a little creature called Morganucodon. The little metal statue of this rodent, and the pictures that go with it,

tell the visitors that the mammals alive today, including humans, evolved from this little creature. In the Evolution Theater, the movie that plays tells how “Morgan” (short for Morganucodon) appeared about 200 million years ago and gradually evolved into the various mammal species. Inside the theater, a bronze statue of a chimpanzee sits in one of the seats as if he, too, is enjoying the show. The entrance to the main mammal exhibit has a large bright sign that says: “Welcome to the mammal family re-union! Come meet your relatives.” Another exhibit in the museum has human bones on display next to

the “manlike apes” that supposedly share a common ancestor with humans. There are several problems, however, with the idea that humans evolved from lower mammals. The first problem is the fact that no fossils exist that show hu-mans evolved from monkeys. Even though many evolutionists say there are “missing link” fossils between humans and apes, that is simply not the case. Ev-

ery fossil that has ever been found can be divided into two groups: humans or animals. There are no half human/half monkey fossils. In fact, our knowledge

of biology makes the idea of human evolution impossible, because we

know that all animals produce after their own kind. No dog ever gave birth to a baby hippopota-mus, no horse ever gave birth to

a chimpanzee, and no rodent eventually evolved into humans over millions of years. All the

exhibits that suggest that fossils

prove human evolu-tion simply are not telling the truth.Second, humans and animals have very different char-acteristics. Humans have the ability to write, produce computers, learn foreign languages, and think about concepts such as heaven and God. No animals have these abilities. Not only that, all humans recognize some things as right and other things as wrong—humans have morals. Animals do not have mor-als like humans. Lions do not gather in small groups to discuss whether or not it is “right” to kill a gazelle or to steal food from other lions. Monkeys do not contem-plate how “wrong” it is to get angry and violent. And a rodent named Morgan never thought about the “rightness” or “wrongness” of stealing cheese. How could humans have evolved the ability to judge right and wrong if animals like “Morgan” and the mon-keys never had the ability?The truth is humans could not have evolved from animals. The Bible tells the true story: God created Adam from the dust of the ground in His own image on day six of the Creation week. When Adam named all the animals, he saw that none of the animals was suitable to be his companion, so God created Eve from one of Adam’s ribs (read Genesis 1:26-27; 2:19-25). The idea that humans evolved from little more than a rat named “Morgan” is neither sci-entific nor true. If you visit federally-funded museums of natural history, look out for false information about “human evolution.”

You have asked a great question. (I’m sorry it has taken us so long to put it in our magazine. Sometimes Iguanodon keeps me busy answer-ing questions for our new children’s show Digger Doug’s Underground.)

The Bible and true science support each oth-er perfectly (as this issue of Discovery teaches). In the very first chapter of the Bible we learn that living things produce after their own kind (Gen-esis 1:11,12,21,24,25). Tomato plants produce tomatoes. Lions give birth to baby lions. Hu-mans give birth to humans. This is exactly what true science shows. In fact, the scientific Law of Biogenesis says that all physical life comes from previous life of its own kind. Evolution, on the other hand, teaches the opposite. It says that over millions of years life can (and supposedly did) evolve into different kinds of life. This is just one example of where the Bible is more sci-entific than evolution.

Although the Bible is not strictly a science book, we can be confident that whenever it deals with a scientific subject, it is accurate. Re-

member: “The Lord made the heavens and the Earth, the sea, and all that is in them” (Exodus 20:11). He is the Supreme Scientist, not man.

One major wing of the National Muse-um of Natural History contains huge meteorites and fascinating informa-

tion about our Solar System. As with many other exhibits, however, this section is filled with false information about how the Sun, Moon, and Earth originated.

According to the information in the museum, a huge explosion known as the Big Bang occurred billions of years ago that caused cosmic space dust to fly into the Universe. This dust supposedly began to collect and form stars, like the Sun, and planets, like the Earth. The information posted says that about 4.6 billion years ago, the Sun and planets surrounding it were formed by gas and dust that collapsed in on itself.

The idea that the Big Bang brought the Universe into existence is

incorrect. Scien-tists have never seen any type of material that could explode and form the huge Universe in which we live. Furthermore, our Solar System is perfectly designed for life to exist on planet Earth. The Sun is the perfect distance from the Earth to allow plants to live. The Moon is the per-fect distance from the Earth to control the oceans’ tides. The tilt of the Earth is exactly right to sustain the proper seasons, and the Earth’s rotation is perfect as well. No big explosion could produce a Solar Sys-tem with orderly laws and perfect design like the one that now exists. In fact, from everything we know about explosions, they only produce chaos and disor-der, never design and order.

Our Universe and Solar System did not acci-dentally form from billion-year-old space dust. God designed it perfectly in six literal, 24-hour days only a few thousand years ago. There is no real scientific evidence that proves that the Sun and Earth are bil-lions of years old.

While it is fun to learn new things and visit neat places like the National Museum of Natural History, we must remember that not everything taught at such places is accurate. We must be prepared to guard our minds against false information that does not agree with the Bible and true scientific discovery.
