Armand De Brignac :Website : http://www.armanddebrignac.com

Prior to the 17th century, however, France's Champagne region produced only still wines – not the sparkling wine famous worldwide today. The Catholic Church owned many of Champagne's vineyards and monks produced their own wines for use in the sacrament of Eucharist.

France's kings were anointed here in the Montagne de Reims terroir of Champagne, and the region's still wine was served at coronation festivities. In the 17th century, employing new fermentation methods, Champagne's winemakers began to produce sparkling wine for the first time. The popularity of this new type of wine led to a global boom in sparkling wine production - but even today, only sparkling wines produced, bottled, and aged in France's Champagne region can legally lay claim to the term "Champagne."Brut Champagne, created to meet demand for drier Champagnes, debuted in the latter half of the 19th century.

Classic Brut Champagnes, including Armand de Brignac Brut Gold, are made from a blend of grapes from different vintage years to achieve the particular character that reflects the unique nature of the house.

The quality of its Brutmulti-vintage is often the benchmark by which each chateau is measured - this is the wine closest in style to that produced by Champagne's original pioneers. The bold character of Armand de Brignac is born of the same passion and imagination that guided Champagne’s early innovators. Like them, Armand de Brignac cannot be defined by convention

Picardy :Website : http://picardy.com.au

Picardy wines are vintaged and bottled by the Pannell Family in their Pemberton winery, where their

attention to detail and hands-on approach is reflected in the wine.

Picardy wine is produced in special tanks, designed by Bill and Dan, which can be used as open or

closed fermenters. For example, they can be closed during cold maceration to prevent must oxidation,

and opened for hand plunging during fermentation.

With minimal transfer time between vineyard and winery (furtherest point being 500 metres) the fruit is

presented to the winery in pristine condition.

All wines are handled gently. Great wines are made in the vineyard and are only finessed in the

winery.    We believe the wines should be a true representation of the vineyards potential.

All red wines are hand plunged (a rigorous ragime of plunging every 4 hours around the clock) to give

the softest extraction of tannins from the skins and seeds while still achieving maximum colour and

flavour. These wines are then matured for twelve months in French oak barriques ranging from new to

four years old.

The Chardonnay is produced in a delicate, refined style in keeping with the great white wines of

Burgundy. It is barrel fermented and lees aged in French oak for ten months.

The bottled wines are placed into wooden bins for 10 months, and later labelled and boxed. This allows

exclusion of any leaking corks or low filled bottles, thereby further ensuring the quality of the product

that you receive.

The Oak

In 1998, Bill and Sandra went on a fact-finding mission to Burgundy, in particular to find a small, high

quality barrel producer. Burgundian winemakers recommended Tonellerie Meyrieux Fils, and close

inspection found this French cooper shared Picardy's desire for maximum quality.

ARMAND DE BRIGNAC

http://www.armanddebrignac.com/

The art of Champagne has a rich history dating back to medieval times.

The popularity of this new type of wine led to a global boom in sparkling wine production - but even today, only sparkling wines produced, bottled, and aged in France's Champagne region can legally lay claim to the term "Champagne."

Brut Champagne, created to meet demand for drier Champagnes, debuted in the latter half of the 19th century. Classic Brut Champagnes, including Armand de Brignac Brut Gold, are made from a blend of grapes from different vintage years to achieve the particular character that reflects the unique nature of the house.

The bold character of Armand de Brignac is born of the same passion and imagination that guided Champagne’s early innovators. Like them, Armand de Brignac cannot be defined by convention.

ATTEMS

http://www.attems.it/

Page 10: Dimatique Wines

By virtue of centuries of winemaking experience, Attems chose to invest in its future in the vineyards as well as in the winery. After the modernisation of its production structures, the number of hectares for wine-growing rose. In addition, a new winemaking facility was established, specifically designed to enhance the characteristics that the region confers to its fruit crops.

Here, the grape clusters are brought in separately from each vineyard block. Then, during pressing and maceration of the fruit, oxygen contact is kept at a minimum to preserve the aromatic compounds of each grape variety. Fermentation temperatures and lengths are then custom-regulated for each variety, to maximise the complexity of the final wine. Each phase of this process is being supervised by the technical director Gianni Napolitano, who from the spring of 2001 has been guiding the company from success to success.

Attems reaps the fruits of an invaluable combination of factors: an antique family tradition, an ideal terroir for the production of great white wines, and an advanced technology. Thus, Attems can guarantee the excellence of its highly appreciated wines, characterized by aromatic richness, complex taste, elegant and long persistence: perfect expressions of this territory.

DOMENICO CLERICO

http://www.domenicoclerico.it/

For a long time, his father grew grapes that he took to the still-existent Cantina Sociale Terre del Barolo, and a modest amount of fruit that he sold at local markets. It was a small agricultural holding with about 4 to 5 hectares of land.

In 1976 he asked him if I wanted to take over the running of the company. With the agreement with his wife Giuliana he set out on this great adventure. In those days, growing grapes and selling them was not very profitable, so I decided to try my hand at making wine.

As his adventure unfolded, the decision to become a wine producer meant he was faced with the need to increase the amount of land under cultivation, and so in 1977 he bought a small plot in the heart of the "Bussia" district. The result was Bricotto Bussia, his first Barolo produced in 1979. Then in 1981 he managed to get hold of a fantastic vineyard on the Ginestre hill in Monforte, from which he produce Ciabot Mentin barolo. In 1990 he bought another piece of land in the same area where he make Pajana barolo, and in 1995 a vineyard situated in an area known as Mosconi, which is where Percristina barolo originates.

With a lot of hard work, enthusiasm and some frustration, they built up a company which now comprises 21 hectares of vineyards producing a total of around 110,000 bottles a year.

Their main aim is to preserve the fruit flavors in the grape as much as possible so that the wine is a true reflection of their vineyard - site, soils, microclimate - what the French refer to as 'terroir'. To maintain the intensity of the fruit, the grapes are treated with 'kid gloves', techniques such as hand picking, gravity feeding the press, whole bunch pressing whites and minimal crushing for reds, are employed. When the grapes are handed over to the winery, they are of a truly high standard. It is paramount that they ensure the fruit's qualities are showcased in the glass.

GRAND CRU

GRANT BURGE

http://www.grantburgewines.com.au/

Grant Burge is a fifth-generation Barossa vigneron and winemaker. Throughout his career, Grant has been one of the most respected and innovative forces in the Australian wine industry.

The history of the Burge family and their long association with winemaking in the region can be traced back to March 1855, when noted tailor John Burge immigrated to the Barossa from Hillcot, near Pewsey in Wiltshire, England with his wife Eliza and their two sons. John worked as a winemaker at Hillside Vineyards and his love of viticulture was passed onto his son Meshach, who continued the tradition making his first wine in 1865, whilst becoming a prominent community leader. Meshach married Emma in 1883 and they had eight children. First-born Percival established the Wilsford Winery near Lyndoch in 1928. Percival had two sons, Noel and Colin, and Colin and his wife Nancy had one son, Grant.

Following in the footsteps of his father and forefathers before him, Grant now carries the winemaking tradition into the 21st century.

HANS TSCHIDA ANGERHOF

http://www.angerhof-tschida.at/

In 1993 they decided to focus on winegrowing. In the course of time they have cultivated 30 hectares of wine area and have pressed sweet wine out of Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Sämling (Scheurebe), Muskat Ottonel, Traminer and Weißburgunder. Their varieties of wine can be found on the wine lists of restaurants all over the world, which makes them very proud. That is why they take on the challenge “sweet wine” every year anew.

They work according to a special philosophy in the vineyard and the cellar aiming at certain kinds of wine with clear fruit and a perfect balance between residual sugar and acid. Our qualified - tested wine- Beerenauslesen, Eiswein, Schilfwein, Trockenbeerenauslesen – is cultivated with the help of exceptionally soft, cool and slow fermentation.

The storage of the red wine in barriques for a long time guarantees a mature and the best wine. This method ends in wine of perfect quality.

HIDDEN VALLEY

http://hiddenvalleywines.co.za/

Hidden Valley is the culmination of years of determined patience. Dave Hidden, a winemaker by training, but entrepreneur by nature, has realized his dream. This secluded farm nestled against the Stellenbosch mountains, now boasts a magnificent new cellar amongst its pristine vineyards. The parcel of land was pointed out to Dave in the late seventies by Dave’s Viticultural Professor, he remarked that this was amongst the best vineyard land in South Africa. Dave took heed of this and acquired the property in 1998.

After careful consideration and in keeping with a holistic approach to the environment, the farm was developed to its current glory. Although the winery is a state of the art, gravity fed cellar, it is nestled into side the slope and intended to blend back into the environment in time. The building materials, namely stone, wood and glass are purposely selected to present a contemporary yet functional structure. The cellar is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, almond orchards and natural vegetation, each occupying an integral part of the farms’ ecosystem. Stainable agriculture is a common theme in every approach both in and outside the cellar.

HUBER

http://www.weingut-huber.at/

TRADITION WITH FLAIR

The Huber family has wine growing roots dating back more than 220 years. Today the winery in Reichersdorf is in its 10th generation and is run by Markus Huber. His outstanding ability to manage the winery with sensitivity and consistency, both in the vineyards and the cellars, has ensured that in a very short space of time he has established Huber wines as an internationally acclaimed leading producer of the region Traisental. The Huber winery is also a member of the ‘Traditionsweingüter Österreich’ – traditional vineyards of Austria.

PURITY WITH STAYING POWER

Absolute focus on the strengths of the region and the unique soil types that are found there ensure that year on year the wines display unmistakable clarity and fruit styles. "Sustainable development, carefully controlling the harvest and meticulous pruning are the most natural and important prerequisites for successful winemaking", says Markus Huber. "Only that way can there be a harmonious merging of traditional and modern methods that create pure wines of unique provenance and character."

INTERNATIONAL QUALITY

Markus Huber is no stranger to a healthy portion of confidence, curiosity and market knowledge. And why not, because his high demands on the quality of his wines are second to none. Correspondingly HUBER Wines count amongst the finest of Austrian exports. He is well represented at noteworthy Wine-Challenges and has been certified by the IFS; International Food Standard.

JURIS

http://www.juris.at/en/

The JURIS Winery is located in Gols on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland. Burgenland, and especially this region around the lake, is the warmest part of Austria counting the most hours of sunshine annually. The large, shallow Lake Neusiedl is the dominating aspect of the region’s climate. More water evaporates from the lake yearly than it holds at any one time. The autumn climate is greatly influenced by warm thermals rising from the lake.

GOLS is situated on the northeast shore of the lake on the edge of the Parndorfer Plateau that reaches to the Seewinkel area around Illmitz to the south. The wine growing district of Gols can be divided into two defined areas:

Page 17: Dimatique Wines

Sloped vineyards on the Parndorfer Platte: south-facing locations of predominantly diluvial quartz and gravel with occasional patches of Pannonian clay.

Locations in the Seewinkel area:

this part of the Pannonian steppe becomes more exposed towards Lake Neusiedl. Over the ages, sedimentation has created various soils including quartz and gravel.

KAIKEN

http://www.kaikenwines.com/

It was precisely the wines of Argentina that attracted Montes into that country. For that same reason they imposed upon themselves, right from the start, in 2001, the task of acquiring for KAIKEN the best grapes produced in the area. It went through all the best grape producing estates, finally deciding for the exceptional quality of that in the First Zone (Maipú, Cruz de Piedra, Ugarteche, Agrelo) as well as from Valle de Uco. Along with a hard selection of the best producers, they meticulously supervise each step and work in the vineyard from start to finish of each growing season, observing well each little detail. This, to attain the full potential from the best grapes.

LARMANDIER-BERNIER

A natural approach to viticulture, because it makes sense.

It is not for reasons of tradition that their approach to viticulture is completely natural; it is just because it makes sense. The creation of a great Champagne, like the creation of any great wine, begins in the vineyard. Indeed, it is the grapes that contain the qualities and the authenticity that no man could ever invent.

The recipe for good-quality grapes is simple but demanding: old vines, working the soil, moderate yields; vines which thrive without having fertilisers forced into them, and mature grapes picked by hand.

Their vineyard - about fifteen hectares, 33 years old on average – lies on the terroirs of the Côte des Blancs: Vertus, a premier cru village, Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Avize, all grand cru villages.

Page 18: Dimatique Wines

They are fortunate enough to work on superb terroirs; it would be a shame if they didn't "bring them to your glass". Their vineyard is planted with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir. The grapes are harvested manually.

LEEUWIN ESTATE

http://www.leeuwinestate.com.au/

Leeuwin Estate, one of the founding wineries of the now famous Margaret River district, consistently produces wines that rank with the world’s finest.

In 1972, following an extensive search for the area most suitable to produce the best varietal wines in Australia, legendary American winemaker, Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of the Leeuwin vineyard. Originally a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved, under the direction of Denis and Tricia Horgan, with Robert Mondavi acting as consultant and mentor.

A nursery was planted in 1974 and the initial vineyards were deep-ploughed, deep-ripped, emptied of stone, planned, pegged, measured, marked and eventually planted by hand over a five year period from 1975.

Featuring state-of-the art facilities, the winery building was opened in 1978, celebrating with a trial vintage. Leeuwin enjoyed its first commercial vintage in 1979, and was thrust into the international spotlight when Decanter Magazine gave its highest recommendation to the 1980 "Art Series" Chardonnay in an international blind tasting.

Maintaining a team of highly skilled and dedicated winemakers, and now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, Leeuwin now exports to over 30 countries.

LENTON BRAE

http://www.lentonbrae.com/

Lenton Brae's winery is an architectural icon of the Margaret River wine region. It was designed by Bruce Tomlinson in 1989. Prior to developing Lenton Brae, Bruce was an architect and town planning consultant. The winery is constructed with rammed earth, a typical building material of the district comprising solid gravel and cement walls 350 mm wide.

Page 19: Dimatique Wines

This results in an impressive, solid, fortress-like construction which is cool in summer and warm in winter. As well as tasting our wines, visitors to the cellar door can enjoy our magnificent lead light window. Entitled 'Sunlight Through Canopy' by Perth artist Heather Jones, this window beautifully captures the effect of the sun's rays as they filter through the vines.

The building also incorporates a viewing platfrom from which both a panoramic view of the Wilyabrup Valley and the winery operations can be safely observed. In 1998 the Busselton Shire Council heritage listed the building for its architectural significance.

LETH

http://www.weingut-leth.at/

Their family is now the third generation to focus on wine-growing. While this doesn´t seem like such a long time, it has been long enough to create - with idealism, innovation and investment – one of the leading wineries in the region. From the very beginning, they´ve been winemakers of pure passion – beginning with Franz and Barbara Leth in the early 1960s; and then with sons Franz and Erich, who shaped the ´80s and ´90s, and now with Franz Jr., who recently became responsible for the estate´s wine line.

LIVIO FELLUGA

http://www.liviofelluga.it/

It is obvious that the story of Livio Felluga and his wines is bound up with the history of this very special land in the north east corner of the Adriatic, where the Mediterranean meets central Europe.

It is a history of ever-shifting frontiers, vanished empires, passing wars and people who have chosen to remain.

It is the story of a family that endured two world wars, living first in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and then in the young Kingdom of Italy, on the rocky coast of the Istrian peninsula and the lagoon of Grado, before finally settling in the gently rolling hills of Friuli.

The return to Italy was far from easy for veterans of the Second World War, especially for those who had left their families in this long-suffering corner of the Adriatic.

The survivors came back to find it was no longer a proud bridgehead into Europe. The physical, political and ethnic frontiers had changed irremediably, as had the agricultural and social panorama of the hill country itself. The rural population was moving away, leaving the land the poorer, and abandoning the crops, values and traditions that are indivisible from the soil.

Page 20: Dimatique Wines

Livio Felluga had to face another battle to revive the hills, convinced that only high-quality viticulture could breathe new life into the Friulian countryside.

With great courage, he began to restore old vineyards and plant new ones, introducing innovative ideas and techniques.

It was hard work, but Livio Felluga set to it with the tenacity and passion that would help him in the coming years to create one of Friuli’s most impressive wineries, earning his universally acknowledged reputation as the man who re-established Friuli’s winemaking heritage.

LUCE DELLA VITE

http://www.lucedellavite.com/

Lamberto Frescobaldi, distinguished for his passion for wine and his talented hand as a winemaker, today has the responsibility of shaping the future of the wine project originally undertaken by the founders of the Luce della Vite estate. His primary mission is the upgrading of the estate’s vineyards and the improvement of the winemaking facilities, plus research projects focusing on numerous experimental vineyards. No one was better equipped than he to bring new energy to the project that was launched in 1995, fruit of the dreams and determination of two leading figures in 20th century winemaking, Lamberto’s father Vittorio Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi. Today the wine estate is part of the Tenute di Toscana holding company, which in turn is controlled by Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi.

MARCHESI DE FRESCOBALDI

http://www.frescobaldi.it/

Passion for Wine: 700 Years of History

The history of the Frescobaldi family begins around the year 1000,during the same time period as the birth of the banking industry of Medieval Florence. The Frescobaldis quickly became the absolute protagonists of political and economic life earning them the right to the title ‘treasurers to the English Crown’.

They inscribed their name in the history of Florence commissioning grand public and architectural works such as the Santa Trinità bridge on the river Arno, and the construction of the Church of Santo Spirito designed by Brunelleschi. Among the most illustrious representatives of the family, Dino Frescobaldi played an important role: poet of the dolce stil-novo, he was celebrated for having recovered and returned to his friend in exile, Dante Alighieri, the first cantos of the Divine Comedy, allowing Dante to continue his work. Gerolamo Frescobaldi, an early composer of Baroque music, is still remembered as one of its most influential representatives and created works of great notoriety.

Page 21: Dimatique Wines

The family’s start in wine production is documented at the beginning of the year 1300 at the historic estate of Tenuta di Castiglioni in Val di Pesa, southwest of Florence. From the beginning, the family has demanded that their wines be of quality and that they reflect the uniqueness of their terroirs, and by the beginning of the 1400s great Renaissance artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi had become faithful clients. A century later the Frescobaldi wines were served at the tables of the Papal Court and the English Court of Henry the Eighth.

MEDICI ERMETE

http://www.medici.it/

According to Charles Baudelaire, "a man who drinks only water has a secret to hide from his fellow men". There is nothing secretive about the Medici company, which for over a century now has been producing a top-of-the-range Lambrusco and a number of other quality wines. It all began with Remigio, who founded a wine cellar in the late nineteenth century, with the aim of making the most of the family vineyards, located between the Via Emilia and the first of the hills in the Enza valley. Remigio's son Ermete expanded the business and consolidated its reputation, before handing over the reins to his sons Valter and Giorgio, who carried on the work of their father and grandfather by extending sales of the wine further. Today the company owns 60 hectares of land spread out among the finest wine-growing areas in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Now run by the fourth generation of the Medici family, the company boasts sound experience both in the vineyards and in the winery, which allows them to make the finest of wine from the grapes they grow.

What lies behind the family's success is the idea of creating a close link between the individual vineyards and the wines produced, and the rigorous selection of the grapes, which sometimes leads to a yield that is as much as 30-40% lower than the quantity required to comply with the production regulations governing the DOC (Registered Designation of Origin) label, but which guarantees wines of unprecedented quality. The production cycle is completed with a skilful vinification process, using entirely new machinery, and a wine-growing philosophy in complete harmony with nature and the environment. Their

Lambrusco is the first in the area to have joined the élite list of the country's most prestigious wines.

MONTES

http://www.monteswines.com/

The history of Montes seems like a dream, and that’s truly how it began, gradually becoming reality. It was in 1987 that our two original founders, Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, both highly experienced wine professionals, wanted to realize their dream of producing Chilean wines a quantum-leap higher in quality than the standards of the time. In 1988, they joined up with the other two founders, Alfredo Vidaurre and Pedro Grand, who brought their own complementary skills and expertise to the venture. And thus Montes was born, at first under the name Discover Wine. It was a dream come true for four great visionaries who succeeded in taking Montes wines from nowhere to more than 100 countries worldwide; by making ‘first growth’ wines respected and admired by the world’s critics and trade, and by drawing attention what Chile was capable of producing.

After They created the first Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon - through hard work and passion - it didn’t take long to achieve recognition. It was a mould-breaking wine that immediately raised the bar for other Chilean producers. Concentrated, complex and stylish, its success was immediate, and it demonstrated that we had chosen the correct path, the one that we had hoped for from the beginning, focusing on the standards expected by international markets.

The 1987 version of this Cabernet Sauvignon was the first ‘premium’ wine to be exported from Chile, and it very quickly opened up opportunities for us and others in Chile. Then followed by cherished Alphas Chardonnay, Merlot and Syrah.

Their obsessions was to make led Montes wines to become a pioneer in Apalta Valley, to plant vineyards on the hillsides, to being the first to plant Syrah in Colchagua, and to introduce innovative methods always aimed at quality production. Results came quicker than expected: the first Chilean ‘Ultra-Premium’ (or ‘Super Chilean’ or ‘Icon’), Montes Alpha ‘M’ 1996 (in classic Bordeaux style); followed by another that has become a luxury wine: Montes Folly 2000 (pure Syrah, with very limited production) and lastly, Purple Angel (92% Carmenère), launched in 2005.

NAPA ANGEL

http://www.napaangel.com/

Pioneering spirit are the best words to describe the Montes philosophy and way of life. Innovation also reflects their constant search for better ways when approaching any of its activities in the wine world.

Passion and love of wine led Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, in 1987 to accept the challenge of improving Chile’s wines way beyond their then current level, a task accomplished with the creation of Chile’s first really premium wine –Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon– and, later, Chile’s first ultra premium wine, Montes Alpha M, also a Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by two other icons, Montes Folly and Purple Angel. Chile was never the same after this and its image in the wine world was much improved, as a consequence.

Argentina was geographically too close to resist its allure and the Montes story was repeated in Mendoza, starting in 2002. Kaiken and Kaiken Ultra were born and quickly established themselves as superior quality wines, limited to two versions of Malbec and two of Cabernet Sauvignon.

The common denominator was pioneering, innovation, passion and love of wine, especially of Cabernet Sauvignon, the King of grapes.

Why Napa Valley? Having established a solid reputation as a top quality wine producer in the two best South American countries for wine growing, the next step had to be the capital and cathedral of Cabernet Sauvignon in the New World’s Northern Hemisphere. That is unquestionably Napa Valley. Learning and comparing what we create with the icons of California is, again, a huge challenge. It is this learning process and comparison that, we hope, will take Montes to the next level: we proudly present NAPA ANGEL to you, our first vintage –2006– in the fabled Napa Valley

PENLEY ESTATE

http://www.penley.com.au/

PETER LEHMANN

http://www.peterlehmannwines.com/

In 1979, Peter Lehmann founded the winery based on his bravery, loyalty and commitment to Barossa and his desire to ‘do the right thing’ by protecting his mates - the independent grape growers of the Barossa.

During this time Peter had little financial security and an impending vintage of 10,000 tons of grapes.

Family, friends and business associates were rallied to the cause to raise much-needed funds to house and process the fruit. With a very short time frame to work in, Peter and his partners got a lucky break when Hoffmans, an established winery on the outskirts of Tanunda, was put up for sale. The 1880s building overlooked the North Para River on fertile ground, and – with Peter’s guidance – his primary investor bought it as the new home of Masterson Wines. Peter and Margaret bought the block next door, and built the house they still live in today.

The greatest resource was the team who joined Peter’s mission from Saltram. The breakaway team was a “Noah’s Ark” of wine talent, including winemakers Andrew Wigan, Charles Melton and Leonie Lange, and engineer Mick Anderson.

Page 25: Dimatique Wines

The original plan was to process fruit and sell it to other companies as bulk wine. This worked well for the first two vintages until the industry took another dive, and the bulk wine market collapsed in 1982.

Peter’s solution to this new crisis was to join what he called the “glass jungle”: bottling wines, and taking them to market under their own brand. Masterson was not a commercial option, so a new brand had to be created.

To the family of investors and growers, “Peter Lehmann” was the logical name.

Peter dismissed the idea as a conflict to his winemaking ethos of teamwork. After a great deal of convincing, in 1982 he agreed to put his name to his promise to the growers and so Peter Lehmann Wines was born.

PICARDY

http://www.picardy.com.au/

Picardy is one of Australia's leading premium boutique wine producers, established in 1993 in the Pemberton region of Western Australia. Picardy produces Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot/Cabernet varieties. All wines bearing thePicardy label are entirely from our single vineyard property in Pemberton. Label integrity is of the utmost importance to the Pannell Family.

Great wines are made in the vineyard. Pemberton is a tranquil and pristine backdrop to Picardy. Picardy is all dry grown, hand-picked, estate grown and family run, with 3 generations of the Pannell family living on the property.

Picardy is owned and operated by Bill, Sandra, and Dan Pannell. Bill and Sandra were pioneers of the Margaret River region, establishing Moss Wood vineyard and winery in 1969. Moss Wood went on to be a major driving force in establishing Margaret River as one of Australia's important growing regions. Dan has grown up in the wine industry and completed a Bachelors of Science (Oenology) at The University Of Adelaide.

Picardy was named after a region east of Paris. A wine merchant and family friend noted that many of the great wines and wine regions have names beginning with the letter "P". Pomerol, Petrus, Pauillac and Pommard are examples. Picardy strives to continue this tradition of wine making quality and excellence.

TALTARNI

http://www.taltarni.com.au/

Independently owned by the Goelet family, Taltarni has had a strong French influence from the outset, with initial plantings of Bordeaux varieties, including cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot. Shortly thereafter, Taltarni extended its plantings to encompass sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, shiraz (sourced from vines planted in 1868 in Great Western) as well as pinot noir and pinot meunier, allowing the winemakers to produce crisp sparkling and fresh white wines.

The first wine from the Moonambel vineyard was released in 1977; immediate success followed with the wine collecting gold at the Royal Melbourne Show – an early acknowledgment of the potential of the vineyard. In 1979, Taltarni's Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the Los Angeles Times International Best Red Wine ahead of world greats.

TAYLORS

Page 28: Dimatique Wines

http://www.taylorswines.com.au/

Bringing great wines to life

They understand the importance of protecting, preserving and enhancing the quality of the fruit from their vineyards. Their aim was to achieve balance, elegance and finesse in every wine and somewhat uniquely when it comes to the style of their wines as they often seek to make wines that are at once both powerful and elegant. The Taylors philosophy rests on the principle that the finest wines are those made with the greatest dedication and care. Above all their imperative is to ‘respect the fruit’.

A first for everything

Recently, They opened a custom-designed wine facility for the 2009 vintage, that sought to preserve the quality of each and every grape. A key feature of this facility is a large Pera press, which uses fewer pressing cycles to extract the same amount of juice from the grapes. As the process is gentler it releases less unwanted phenolic characters and preserves purity of flavour.

Everything they do at Taylors – from being the first Australian winery to only use screw-cap closures to the installation of our extremely gentle gas mixing system – is done to allow the remarkable fruits produced in our vineyards to be experienced to their full. And for the wine itself to always represent unmatched style and quality.

TENUTA SAN GUIDO

http://www.tenutasanguido.com/

Tenuta San Guido is named after the Saint Guido della Gherardesca who lived during the XI century. It is located on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Leghorn and Grosseto, in Maremma an area made famous by Italian Nobel prize winner Giosuè Carducci, and it stretches for 13 km from the sea to the hills.

Three are its defining characteristics: the Sassicaia wine, the Razza Dormello-Olgiata thoroughbred studfarm and the Bird Sanctuary Oasi di Bolgheri. They divide the estate between the Oasi on the coast, the horse's training grounds on the plain, and the vineyards planted up to 350 meters on the hills. The latter have been given their own DOC, the DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia, the first, and so far only case in Italy of a DOC contained in one estate.

The wedding of Mario Incisa della Rocchetta and Clarice della Gherardesca on october 18th 1930, started it all.

They shared a love for thoroughbred horses that made them form a partnership with horse breeder and trainer Federico Tesio. Mario Incisa's love of good wine made him plant Cabernet vines in 1942 for what was to become Sassicaia. Seventeen years later the Oasi of Bolgheri becomes Italy's first Italian private nature preserve. In 1966 it is, with the Oasi of the lake of Burano, the first Wwf Wildlife Refuge in Italy.

THE STANDISH

http://www.standishwineco.com/

Sourced from the Standish Family Vineyard – Siegersdorf Road, Vine Vale, Barossa Valley. Planted on own roots in 1912 (7.6 Hectares – 12ft x 10ft spacing). Fine white sand over deep heavy red clay at 302m above sea level.

Dense, latent and strapping, this flaunts the flawless purity that can be leached from the famed sandy flints of Vine Vale. Tightly wound with its cards close to the vest, deep-set aromatics of coal, pressed currant and black truffle are foiled by redolent tones of tilled soil, beef broth and slow roasted meats. Dark and brooding with immense concentration, persistence and energy it is somewhat of a heroic style but is gently laced with a long fine cloak of silken tannin. More reticent than its stable mate, it shows wonderful staying power for those with immense patience and cool, dark cellars.

Since 2001, their goal has been to create the best wines in all of Chile. As a part of VSPT wine group, their philosophy is simple, but clear: excellence is achieved by paying attention to even the smallest details at every stage, focusing all of our energies on just two wines, Sideral and Altaïr.

Altaïr is a winery nestled, almost hidden, in the mountains; a place where wine seeks refuge from the passage of time. We have the clear purpose of intertwining and adapting our French heritage to the Chilean countryside, and they put the most advanced technology at the disposal of classic expertise in order to produce wine.

Their name evokes the heavens, as Altaïr is the brightest star in the Eagle constellation. This star formation can be seen from both hemispheres and symbolizes the union between the New and Old Worlds.

It is this unfathomable infinity in which a detail becomes everything. A secret yearning for guaranteed permanence year after year, harvest after harvest. The tradition of the best Chilean grapes is written with wine on the undulating parchment of the Andes Mountains.

This is Affinity for Infinity.

WOODLANDS

Woodlands vineyard was established in 1973 by David & Heather Watson on Caves Road in Wilyabrup, and was one of the first five vineyards to be planted in the Margaret River Wine Region. David and Heather aimed to create wines to emulate the great vineyards of Bordeaux.

Woodlands came to fame early on with the release of our 1981 ‘Andrew’ Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine won trophies for ‘Best Red Wine’ at the Perth Wine Show, the Mt Barker Wine Show, and the National Wine Show. This wine was the first from Margaret River to achieve a National Red Wine Trophy.

Subsequent Cabernets made by David Watson won trophies and critical acclaim across the country.

David’s son Stuart took the reins as Winemaker in 2002. Andrew Watson joined Woodlands full time in 2005.

In 2005 and 2006 Woodlands won Trophies at the Margaret River Wine Show, the Winewise Small Vignerons Awards, and the Boutique Wine Awards. Woodlands also won gold medals at the National Wine Show, the Margaret River Wine Show, the Perth Royal Wine Show, the Rutherglen Wine Show, the Winewise Small Vignerons Awards, and the Boutique Winemaker’s Awards.

In 2007 the Watson family purchased the Woodlands Brook vineyard, located on Puzey road in the Wilyabrup Valley. With Woodlands Brook, the Watsons see a great opportunity to plant more Cabernet Sauvignon on free-draining, south facing Wilyabrup soils.

Woodlands now has an annual production of 9000 cases, specializing in red wine, and remains owned and operated by the Watson family. In 2010 David and Heather were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Margaret River Wine Industry Association.

Woodlands' premier wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon, is still made from the same planting originally made by David and Heather in 1973. Woodlands Cabernet Sauvignon continues to garner awards and critical acclaim, including being listed in the Langtons Classification of Fine Wines.

landscape, so their dream was to develop a winery that was not only highly functional, but was also sensitive to the natural aesthetic of the area and reflected their creative passion.

It is often said that great wine is made in the vineyard - all our grapes are estate-grown, enabling us to control quality from the vineyard to the bottle. Each of our vineyard sites was chosen for its unique character; the flavours that terroir and careful, hands-on viticulture give the fruit are subtly enhanced by the gentle handling of our gravity-fed winery.

ZEMA ESTATE

From Calabria to Coonawarra

Grape growing and winemaking has been a large part of the Zema Family history and heritage dating back to the 1800’s. It was at this time that the Zema family first became involved with vineyards and winemaking not only for personal consumption but also on a commercial basis.

Demetrio’s great grandfather Matteo opened the first wine bar/tavern in Armo, Reggio Calabria in 1835, much to the angst of the local authorities at the time. Although the tavern no longer exists, it was this legacy and a passion for wine that has been passed down from generation to generation.

In the early 1950’s Demetrio Zema and Francesca Zema began a love affair that would last not only more than fifty years but also across two continents. Soon after becoming engaged, the couple were separated as Francesca and her family departed Italy to escape the aftermath of war and to seize the opportunities that a strange and peaceful new country ‘Australia’ offered.

After more than twelve months apart the couple were re-united in May 1959 and married in Penola in June that year. Francesca was reluctant to leave her family and convinced Demetrio to stay, at least in the short term and the couple settled in Penola

In 1982 the dream became a reality when the family was able to purchase a small block of mature vines in the very heart of Coonawarra.

The first vintage of Zema Estate wines was made with very little equipment, a tin shed and an old milk tanker under the generous guidance of veteran Coonawarra Winemaker Mr. Ken Ward.

Additional buildings were added over time, from the initial winery and Cellar Door sales constructed in time for the 1983 vintage to the recently added new Cellar Door, office complex and warehouse which was opened on April 19, 2006.

Today Zema Estate is managed by Nick and Matt Zema with Demetrio and Francesca never too far away, either helping out in Cellar Door or cooking up a storm for visitors, staff and guests. Nick is based at the winery and Matt in Melbourne and the brothers are in daily contact and work very closely together.

Matt and Nick are enormously proud of their family’s achievements and they wish to build on this legacy for future generations. Matt and his wife Teresa have one son Demetrio Jnr and Nick and his wife Jackie have two daughters, Olivia and Georgina and a son, Zac.
