eliminated candidates based on what a search

“SEE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A DIALOGUE, NOT A MONOLOGUE…”

Page 13: Digital professionalism 2014

There are many pitfalls when using social media…

You could get disciplined or fired for various reasons…

Or have a permanent online presence for the rest of your life and beyond

DO A CLEAN-UP

Tighten your privacy settings. Keep in mind that it does not protect you from someone taking a snapshot of your posts. See https://library.adu.edu/sites/default/files/eagle_eye/september13.pdf

Untag yourself from – or delete - any photos which may put you in a bad light. You can go even further and ask people to remove bad photos.

Your opinions are also important – censor any blogs and posts you may have put up

PLAN YOUR PERSONAL BRAND

Decide which social media profiles – if any – you are going to use for professional purposes.

• LinkedIn is good for professional connections and job searches

• Twitter is good for connecting with like-minded people

Does your email address, or Twitter handle have a professional name? See http://www.thefrisky.com/2013-01-31/meet-the-worlds-most-idiotic-teacher-carly-mckinney-nsfw/
