INTRODUCING THE MODEL 3051CD0The Rosemount Model 3051CD0 Draft Rangepressure transmitter is a precision instrument ofsuperior quality and performance. The Model3051CD0 measures low to extremely low pressuredifferentials, with positive and negative pressurecapabilities. The Model 3051CD0 transmitter isideal for all types of combustion process air flowmeasurements, particularly designed for accuratemonitoring of:• Furnace and boiler pressure• Combustion air flows• Total, primary, and secondary air flows• Draft lossAdditionally, the Model 3051CD0 is ideal for HVACsystems, Clean Room applications, and other flowapplications that require small differentialpressure measurements.

FEATURESThe Model 3051CD0 Transmitter is based on thedesign of the Model 3051 transmitter, sharing thesame electronics board, electronics housing, LCDmeter, and terminal block. The Model 3051CD0 hasa redesigned capacitance sensor that is optimized forlow differential pressure measurements. Thestandardized parts significantly reduce yourspares inventory.Installation, calibration, and commissioning aremade easy by the compact modular design, withseparate sealed compartments for electronics andwiring terminals, and external span and zeroadjustments. The housing is explosion proof andweatherproof, and the optional local display LCDmeter simplifies inspection, maintenance, andtroubleshooting.

APPLICATIONSThe traditional uses for draft measurements areassociated with boiler pressures, furnace pressures, and flow measurements. With increasedenvironmental regulations, high performance draftrange applications are also becomingincreasingly prevalent.

Furnace and Boiler DraftThe Model 3051CD0 is ideal for furnace and boilerdraft range needs. The Model 3051CD0 measurescombustion air flow, exhaust gas flow, andcombustion chamber pressures, accurately andreliably. For more detailed information on furnace and boilerapplications, see pages 113 and 114.

HVAC SystemsHeating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)systems have several draft applications including airflow measurement, building and zonepressurization, and filter and heat exchangerclogging detection. The Model 3051CD0 can improveefficiency and help predict maintenance of all ofthese processes by monitoring pressure loss to asystem and pressure changes across sections.

Clean RoomsClean rooms have extensive draft range HVACrequirements. The Model 3051CD0 measures cleanroom pressures accurately and efficiently, helping toeliminate problems of both contamination and out ofbalance pressurization.

FlowA small differential pressure generated from aprimary element can result in a lower permanentpressure loss. With a static pressure limit of 750 psi(5171 kPa), the Model 3051CD0 is well-suited formeasuring flows in pipes where only a smalldifferential pressure is generated acrossa primary element.

FIGURE 1. Model 3051CD0 Boiler Applications.

Model 3051CD0 Boiler Applications

FlowIn many boiler applications, air flow can be the mostdifficult measurement. Primary elements such asannubars, air foils, piezometer rings, or restrictionsin the duct work are used to create a usabledifferential. However, in many cases, pressure dropsof approximately only 1 inH2O (249 Pa) aredeveloped. A good air flow measurement isnecessary for precise control of fuel-to-air ratios, acritical parameter in maintaining boiler combustionefficiency and attaining fuel savings. The Model3051CD0 can measure this air flow to provide themost efficient combustion possible.

Other FlowsMany waste gases or other combustion-related airflows are supplied at very low static pressures.Primary measurement devices used in theseapplications will not develop large differentialpressures. Low range transmitters must be used forthese installations to assure compliance withenvironmental regulations.

FT

PressureMost boilers are designed to maintain a slightnegative pressure (approximately –0.25 inH2O[62 Pa]) in the furnace. This is accomplished bymodulating induced draft dampers or boiler outletdampers. A pressure tap is located in the chamberwhere combustion takes place. If the pressure is toolow, it can cause air infiltration and reduceefficiency. If the pressure is too high, it can causeharmful gases to escape into the boiler room.Efficient operation, safety, and protection ofequipment depends upon this measurement, and theModel 3051CD0 offers the solution.

Differential Pressure–Drops AcrossSections

Pressure drops across air heaters, scrubbers, economizers, and other parts of the boiler must beknown to determine if these components are dirty orbecoming plugged with soot or ash. The efficiency ofthe boiler depends on the proper operation of thesedevices. Electrostatic precipitators often have theirown fans, and pressure within these must be closelycontrolled. The Model 3051CD0 can accuratelymeasure these pressure drops to improve the overallefficiency of a system.

Combustion air fans force air into the furnace forcombustion of the fuel. Waste gases exiting thefurnace are regulated by a damper in the stack. Thestack damper must be properly positioned to create avery slight positive pressure in the furnace forefficient operation.

• If the furnace pressure is too high, it will causethe hot air needed for heating to escape throughthe furnace casing, reducing efficiency.

• If the furnace pressure is too low, it will causeexcessive air leaks through the furnace casingfrom the atmosphere into the furnace.

Energy conservation has become an important issue.Good furnace pressure control is an effective meansof reducing fuel consumption. Accurate, reliableprocess measurement is a necessity, and the Model3051CD0 provides it.Ideally, a slight positive pressure of 0.05 inH2Oshould be maintained to minimize losses. A pressuretransmitter to control these losses should be selectedon the basis of resolution, repeatability, stability, andaccuracy. Whether it be a reheat furnace, soakingpit, kiln, or smelter, the Rosemount Model 3051CD0is an ideal measurement choice.
