Why?
‘Scholars doing digital work require kinds of support that many more traditionally oriented humanists do not: access to technical resources for both their teaching and scholarship, as well as help maintaining those resources. They need access to collaborators--to other scholars in the humanities and to a range of developers, designers, project managers, and librarians--to produce and preserve their projects. How many programs hiring young digital humanists are prepared to provide them with those resources?’

Vision for libraries Its first concern is not to get digital things into the library…but to get the library to where digital things are being used, and make them accessible and sustainable. It acts as a resource for the university’s scholars by helping to shape and support new digital methodologies, which it channels into programmatic activities when there is potential benefit to the wider university community

Initial goals for this position include assessing campus trends and needs in digital humanities, identifying priorities for the Library, designing and proposing library service models, and implementing those plans.
Specific responsibilities may include:
• Researching emerging digital humanities technologies and methodologies and promoting them, as appropriate, to CUHK faculty and students
• Providing expert consultations to humanities scholars and students on digital humanities techniques and tools • Offering digital humanities training • Conducting environmental scans to identify current and emerging scholarly projects at the University for which digital
humanities tools and methodologies are appropriate. • Facilitating faculty digital production and curation needs, working with Library colleagues. • Organising access to humanities data for researchers • Acting as liaison librarian for at least one academic department • Designing new applications for use in the humanities
The post requires a strong academic background in the humanities combined with knowledge and expertise in how technology is affecting humanities research, plus an enthusiasm for collaborating with students, faculty, and other staff in an exciting and dynamic intellectual environment.
