  • .........ShQQting tips

When you are unsure of how to take a picturethat you envision, refer to the information below.

    Focusing :

    "Focusing on the subject"

    • Taking a picture of a subject not in the centerof the screen

After focusing on an object at the same distanceas the subject, compose the shot, and take thepicture.

Pressing the shutter button halfway (p. 14)

    • Set [AF MODE] (p. 26) to [iESP]

    • Taking a picture in [AF TRACKING] mode(p. 26)

The camera tracks the subject movementautomatically to focus on it continuously.

    • Taking a picture of subjects where autofocusis difficult

In the following cases, after focusing on an object(by pressing the shutter button halfway down) withhigh contrast at the same distance as the subject, compose the shot, and take the picture.

    Subjects with tow contrast

When extremely bright objects _j* ,

appear in the center of the -.__ -/, _<

    screen , _./.)_, _:

    Object with no vertical lines"_

" It is also effective to compose the shot by holding thecamera vertically to focus, and then returning to thehorizontal position to take the picture.

    "Taking pictures without camera shake"

    • Taking pictures using ((_)) mode (p. 18)

    • Select ¢L_,(SPORT) in SCN mode (p. 17)

The t_ (SPORT) mode uses a fast shutter speedand can reduce the blur incurred by a movingsubject.

    • Taking pictures at a high ISO sensitivity

If a high ISO sensitivity is selected, pictures canbe taken at a high shutter speed even at locationswhere a flash cannot be used.

    [ISO] (p. 25)

    "Taking pictures with the right

    brightness"

    • Taking pictures using [FACE DETECT] (p. 26)

Appropriate exposure is obtained for a faceagainst backlight, and the face is brightened.

    • Taking pictures using [FILL IN] (p. 19) flash

A subject against backlight is brightened.

    • Taking pictures using exposure compensation(p. 20)

Adjust the brightness while viewing the screenfor taking the picture. Normally, taking pictures ofwhite subjects (such as snow) results in imagesthat are darker than the actual subject. Use the[] button to adjust in the positive (+) directionto express whites as they appear. When takingpictures of black subjects, on the other hand, it iseffective to adjust in the negative (-) direction.

    EN_

  • "Taking pictures with colors at the same

    shade as they appear"

    • Taking pictures by selecting [WB] (p. 25)

Best results in most environments can normallybe obtained with the AUTO setting, but for somesubjects, you should try experimenting withdifferent settings. (This is especially true forsunshade under e clear sky, mixed natural andartificial light settings, and so on.)

    • Taking pictures using [FILL IN] (p. 19) flash

Use of the flash is also effective for shooting underfluorescent and other artificial lighting.

    Image quality

    "Taking sharper pictures"

    • Taking pictures with the optical zoom

Avoid using digital zoom (p. 19) to take pictures.

    • Taking pictures at a low ISO sensitivity

if the picture is taken with a high ISO sensitivity, noise (small colored spots and color unevennessthat were not in the original image) can occur, endthe image can appear grainy. The resulting imageis grainier than with low ISO sensitivity as well.
