Real Examples

This is an example of a digipack from Coldplay, and their album ‘Viva La Vida’. It is a digipack which has stuck to the codes and conventions in every manner. The front page features an image, which I believe to be linked to the name of the album. The first inside panel features pictures of the band members all playing their instruments with a sepia toned filter. The next panel is a bit different. It is a jet black background with just the name of the band on the first line, the name of the album on the next, and then a strange phrase underneath that. The phrase is “Death and all his friends”. At first I had absolutely no idea what this meant, but after a bit of research, it turns out the name of the album is actually ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’. Both Viva La Vida and Death And All His Freinds are seperate songs within the album. The final panel returns to the conventions, and again is what you’d expect. It features the song titles, record label information and a barcode; all what you would expect! Again (following digipack conventions) it has continued the same font and the same colour as the text on the previous panel. Something noticeable about this digipack is the fact that the text is very different on the front page, to what is is throughout the rest of the digipack.

ColdplayViva La Vida

This is the digipack from Lady Gaga’s ‘The Fame Monster’. It, like the Coldplay digipack, follows all the codes and conventions of modern digipacks. It has stuck to one style of font throughout the digipack, and one sequence of colouring – Black and White. The title on the front has been done in a gold colour, to exaggerate the ‘Fame’ idea.The front cover shows a picture of Lady Gaga, one heavily associated with this album. This shows that the image has created recognition, which is what is aspired for from a front cover. It also has the name of the artist and the album name, very much a convention of album covers.The second panel is another picture of Gaga, which is made to look like its somewhat behind the scenes.This particular album consists of two dics, therefore has two disc tray panels. These two panels are completely identical, except from one says one, and the other says two; obviously in the same font, size and colour.The back page is another picture of Gaga, this tme, a ‘proffesional shot’. The text states the exact same as the front cover, keeping the same font and same styling, but this time, in white.

My Digipack

• I intend on doing a digipack to coincide with my music video. Coldplay are a more suiting example for me to base my digipack on, because the genre in which they produce, is similar to the song that I have done – an alternative genre. I don’t intend on having a ‘deeper meaning’ on the front cover, like Coldplay’s however. I will keep it simple and follow the codes and conventions religiously. Also, I don’t think I will be using a blank page with a few words on it, because that won’t get me many marks at all!
