Video – You give me something

http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/JamesMorrison/You-Give-Me-Something--39781775

The opening of the clip starts with traffic going past a group of people who are giving each other objects. This ties in with the title of the song “you give me something”. It then fades into a heavily crowded pavement, with medium close ups of strangers walking past and then focuses on James, who is busking in the street. This could be again referring to the song title as it could be suggesting that people are giving him donations. Close ups of his face are used throughout the video to portray his emotion and feelings across to the audience. The camera is panning around him, this is done to show that he has an audience, and also shows people crossing the streets from all around him to come and listen to his music. He then crosses into the middle of a busy road and starts singing, this could mean that he is looking for peoples attention.

CD/Album coverThis CD cover is very simplistic and basic. It has the name of the artist, James Morrison, and the name on the song underneath. This aspect is highly conventional as it is what the audience expects to see. However, the creator has rotated the title on its side, this makes it less conventional and it appears to be more creative, which helps attract a wider audience. The image is of James Morrison, sitting on what looks to be a fence. If the CD cover has the artist on the front, it suggests that they aren’t well known so it needs to be clear who the performer is. The colour scheme for the cover is red, orange, blue and white. These are very contrasting colours. The reds and oranges contrast with the light blue and white so that they stand out. It emphasises what is most important e.g. The artist and song. The camera shot for this image is a medium close up, this is because it shows most of the main object but not in a lot of detail. The picture of James is a silhouette, which adds a sense of mystery and suspicion about him and his personality.

PosterThis is James Morrison’s tour poster. The main image is of him playing live music, which emphasises to the audience that all his music will be live on his tour. The largest font size is his name, which shows he needs to say who he is to get recognised. After that, the next largest font is the date he is playing and where he is playing at. These are the most important parts of the poster because people need to know when and where they are going to watch him. The colour scheme for the poster is yellow, blue and white. A blue background is used so that the white and yellow of the writing and image contrasts and catches the audiences eye. At the bottom of the poster, it is advertising James Morrison's new album, this is a clever way to save some money by advertising his tour and his album together. Due to James holding a guitar in the picture, it shows the audience what style of music he plays and that a lot of his music is acoustic.
