Grindie

The Grindie is a fairly new genre and emerged in 2006. Bands are now being formed fitting this genre of music, rather then using computers and mc-ing there are using the traditional format of a rock band.

In this powerpoint I’ll be looking at bands from the same genre a noting similarities and differences of album covers from this genre.

Does it Offend You Yeah?Similarly to Hadouken! Does it Offend You Yeah? Features their name in a graffiti style writing. This seems to be a typical feature of bands of this genre. Meaning we may need to consider designing a similar way of writing their name for our album cover. Another feature of their album covers is a image that dominates the cover making it the main focus of the cover. It also has some relevance to the songs featured on the album. However it rare that you see both an image and writing together so we’ll have to decide whether we’d rather have an image or writing .The colours used on both these covers are electric and bold reflecting the fast paced, energetic music on the album. Both covers have a darker background helping the colours stand out against the background making the covers exciting and interesting to look at. The main image, writing it situated in the middle of the cover making it the main focal point.

Klaxons

Klaxons never feature in their album covers and prefer to use a image which is usually arty and has some relation to the songs on the album. A similar convention throughout these album covers is that a star isn’t present perhaps suggesting that they want to be known for their music rather than a star and that they all have an equal part in their music. I think their album covers are very successful as they are interesting and would catch the eye in a shop making the purchaser go over. All of the bands in this genre design a specific font and design which their name is written in which is unique to them. This is something we need to look into doing for our album.

Linkin Park

Linkin Park are the only band that feature in one of their album covers which creates a boy band image which none of the others have. Rather than using people most bands of this genre would create a cartoon style version. However many of their other album covers look like they’ve been stenciled adding to the grungy street feel this music style has. The second album cover however looks quite aggressive.

Gym Class Heroes

Gym Class Heroes have similarly to Linkin Park and have used a stencil effect on their album covers. The cover at the top is closest to what we are hoping to achieve with our album however the font style isn’t as typical to the other album covers.
