SCHOOL PRODUCTION - “NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM” - LAST MINUTE NEWS

This Wednesday 6 November there is a dress rehearsal at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre. Most costumes will be at school ready to take to the venue. We have asked the children to arrive in their black basics where applicable. Please make sure to pack recess, lunch and plenty of water. The bus departs school after 9am and returns around lunch time.

On the evening of the Production, children are to arrive at 5.30-5.40pm at Lake Macquarie Performing Arts Centre. The Production begins at 6pm and is estimated to take approximately one and a half hours. We ask that children eat before they arrive at the venue to avoid costumes being stained. Travel to and from the venue for the evening performance is the responsibility of the parents.

The children were amazing and represented our school with enthusiasm and pride.

CAVES COASTAL

Blacksmiths PS P&C has been invited to host the Caves Coastal raffle every Friday night from 5.30-6.30pm for the next 4 weeks. Not only is this a great fundraiser for the school but a great chance to socialise with other parents. Our Kindergarten mums met last Friday and had a great time unwinding. If you would like to be involved, or possibly organise some of the parents to get together in your grade and have fun selling some tickets and socialising with each other, come and let Mrs Clark in the front office know or see Mr Taylor.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

We will be holding our Remembrance Day ceromony at 11am on Monday 11 November. Students are encouraged to bring in a small posy of flowers to place under the flag on the day.

YEAR 3/4 FARM DAY

Last Tuesday our Year 3 and 4 students travelled to Sydney Showground at Homebush for a Farm Day excursion. The students were very excited as many hadn’t been on a bus trip before.

During the day the students participated in 5 different activities. They learnt about grains and how important it is to eat lots of different varieties to have a healthy diet. They got to taste different types of breads.

They also learnt about the wool industry, tasted honey and learnt about being a dairy farmer and about the poultry industry. All of the students got the opportunity to milk a jersey cow, learnt how to make cheese and butter, and they also got to hold a day old chick.

The Education Leader from the RAS praised how well behaved and polite our students were. All great ambassadors for our school.

P&C CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

The P&C are organising a Christmas Raffle to be drawn on Tuesday 17 December. Tickets will be on sale for $1.00 each. Donations of prizes for the raffle can be handed in at the school office.

VEGETABLE GARDEN

We have had, and continue to harvest, gorgeous fresh produce for our Thursday Garden Stall. Remember to bring a few dollars to purchase something at pickup time. All of the items at our stall are picked on Thursday at lunchtime by our children, under the direction and assistance of Kathryn and Mrs Clark. The children are thrilled with how many vegetables our garden is producing at the moment.

YEAR 6 MINI FETE - JAR STALL

The Year 6 Mini Fete will be held on Wednesday 20 November. Each Year 5 and Year 6 student is required to send in two filled jars for the popular ‘Jar Stall’ and donations of one filled jar from all other families would also be appreciated.

PIE DRIVE LEFTOVERS

There have been a few packs of Cheese & Ricotta rolls left behind from our Pie Drive orders last term. Please see Mrs Clark in the office if you would like to collect them.

… to pack lunches for kindy kids. Packing lunch boxes for the first time can be overwhelming. Here are our top tips for new kindy parents: • Pack something

from each of the 5 food groups plus water. Check out our lunch box builder for ideas.

• Keep foods fresh and safe by packing an ice brick or a frozen water bottle to keep lunch cool.

• Make sure your child can open the lunch box and containers.

• From day 1, make vegetables a habit in the lunch box.

• Remember it is ‘OK to say NO’ to unhealthy foods such as chips, chocolate and lollies.
