I1– REVISION LIST

1.1 November 2011 First emission

1.2 January 2013 Added procedure to install MODGSM3 driver for Windows 7 (32 / 64 Bit), Windows 8 (32 / 64 Bit)

I2- RECOMMENDATIONS This manual explains the programming of DFGSM3 module using DFGSMTools program. For the correct use of this program it is suggested a computer display resolution equal to or greater than 1024x768 pixels. If this conditions doesn't meet, the window of the DFGSMTools program will be cut.The communication link between PC and DFGSM3 module is made with USB interface so the PC must have a USB interface revision 1.1 or 2.0.

NOTE: The communications between PC and DFGSM3 is made using USB interface, how explained before. When the DFGSM3 module is linked for the first time to the PC, this will be recognized as new device and automatically the operating system will require the driver installation for the new peripheral. The correct driver is distributed together DFGSMTools installation package. In this manual there is a section where it is ex-plained step by step how the driver must be installed. When the installation of driver is terminated, the PC will see the DFGSM3 module like a virtual serial interface.

1 - Introduction

DFGSMTools allows the configuration and setting up of DFGSM3 module. This manual is a guide for a fast learning of the new functions available with new DFGSM3 module. The subjects illustrated in this manual will be referred to a tutorial project so, step by step, the user learns to use it and at the end of this manual the created project will be ready for the download into DFGSM3 module. When the user starts a new project it is very important to have clear and defined ideas and concepts on what is desired, then the user must summarize what functions would use for the new project and at the end of this mental processing he can start to create the project. Now let us highlight the major difference between old programming tool (TACO + DFGSM2) and the new DFGSMTools + DFGSM3:

DFGSM3 module uses 4 input addresses, as the old module, but it now manages 16 points for each address instead of 4 points

The number of users increases from 8 to 32 The number of input commands increases from 32 to 64. Also, for each command it is possible to

set 3 separated actions. So the new DFGSM3 is able to manage up to 192 actions (64 commands x 3 actions each one)

The number of digital texts, for the management of the output SMS, increases from 126 to 128 The number of analog text, for the management of the output SMS, increases from 126 to 128 The management of generic texts for the SMS output has been added. The system manage 8 gener-

ic texts The number of the output SMS increases from 30 to 64 The special output SMS include the following messages; Power failure and Power back like previous

version and, in addiction, the possibility to send BUS status information. To be more precise if the BUS is working the message is BUS OK otherwise BUS KO. In all cases it is possible to insert a de -sired text for these messages

The SMS forwarding for all messages received from not listed users has been added. The recieved SMS can be forwarded to any desired number

DFGSM3 manages the jolly number in order to process messages received from not listed users. This function, of course, needs a password inside the incoming SMS

The request of residual credit of the SIM card has been added. The operator answer can be forwar-ded to the desired number

The management of the PIN code directly from DFGSMTools has been added. It is possible to en-able/disable the SIM PIN code and, if required, to change this code

It is possible to send a PUK code from DFGSMTools to SIM card. This function is necessary to un-lock the SIM card if an invalid PIN code has been entered for three consecutive times

Added the function for erasing all SMS stored in the SIM card directly from DFGSMTools. This func -tion is useful if the SIM card inserted is not blank

Added a function for reading the firmware version of GSM engine Possibility to set time and date for DFGSM3 module. The module features an internal clock and it is

necessary to set it if the module is not connected to Domino bus (e.g. stand alone application). If in-stead this module is connected to the bus, and a DFCK or DFCP module has been connected, the module adjusts its time and date according to time and date sent by DFCK or DFCP

Like previously programming tool (TACO) it is possible to perform a real time log to “spy” the data sent from module to GSM engine

A new type of log has been added in order to save all significant events, occurred during the working of the DFGSM3 module, on SDCARD memory. From DFGSMTools it is possible to read the log file saved on SDCARD. If required, this file can be saved on the hard-disk of the PC

The communication between PC and DFGSM3 uses the USB interface

2 - USB driver installation procedure for DFGSM3 module

2.1 - How to install DFGSM3 drivers into Windows XP

Note: this procedure requires that DFGSMTools has been already installed on the PC. When the user con-nect DFGSM3 module to the PC, using USB cable, and this is the first time that this module is connected to the PC, the automatic procedure for driver installation starts.Follow the driver installation procedure on Windows XP:

During the driver installation procedure the system shows a sequence of windows. This guide shows step by step how to configure each window. In the first window it is necessary to select the option “No, not this time”, see figure, and click on “Next”.

The following window appears, select the option “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” as shown in the window and click on “Next”.

In this windows remove the check option “Search remov-able media (floppy, CD-ROM...)” and check the option “Include this location in the search:”, see the figure on the left. To select a right path, where the driver file is stored, click on the “Browse” button; the system shows a new window where it is possible to select the desired path. The configuration file is stored in the same directory where the software DFGSMTools has been installed. When the selected path is correct click on “Next”.

3 - Overview of DFGSMTools program

When opening DFGSMTools program, the following window appears:

As shown, the program is organized in folder (TAB) to facilitate the using. This approach allows to avoid con-fusion during parameters configuration and moreover the TAB are positioned in the correct chronological or -der of data entering. Start always from the folder on the left, “Users”, to arrive, at the end of the process, at the latest folder on the right “Definition of special SMS”. Obviously it is possible to insert/remove/modify the data previously inserted. For example, if all data have been entered and the operator realizes that a new user must be added, it is necessary to open the folder “Users” again and to add the new required phone number.Beyond the folder management, the program includes a menu and a command bar useful to recall the func-tions most commonly used. All commands in the command bar are replicated in the menu. Finally a status bar on the bottom of the window shows the date and time of the PC. If a project has been loaded, the status bar also shows the name of the project and its related path.

The next paragraph will describe the menu items and the related functions. Many menu items are replicated in the command bar.

3.1 - File Menu

Selecting the item “File” the following menu appears:

The menu “File”, as the name suggests, allows to execute all read and write operations on the project file. The item “New Project” resets all data previously inserted and it or-ganizes the program for the creation of the new project. It is pos-sible to recall this command using a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+N. The item “Open Project” reads and shows a project previously saved. The keyboard shortcut for this command is: Ctrl+O. The item “Save Project” is used to save the current project. At the first saving, thus if the project file doesn't exist, the software opens the “Save Project as” window in order to assign a name to it.

If the project already exists on the hard-disk, the system overwrites it with new data. The project file has al -ways the extension .gsm. The keyboard shortcut for this choice is: Ctrl+S.The item “Save Project as” allows to assign a name to the current project, that can be different from the pre-viously one. The keyboard shortcut for this command is: Ctrl+Shift+S. The item “Import .Bin file” is used to rebuild a project file; in other words, this function converts a compiled file ( .bin) to the related source file (.gsm). The keyboard shortcut for this command is: Ctrl+I. The files with .bin extension are the result of the project compiling function. The compilation of the project is mandatory before programming DFGMS3 mod-ule. Every time the project is compiled, the system will generate a binary file with the same name of the source project but with .bin extension. The item “Exit” is used, as the name suggest, to quit the program. If a project is still opened, and this has not yet been saved, the program first asks you if you want saving changes before to exit.

The last four items are used for quick opening of the last projects that have been saved (up to 4). Clicking on one of them, the related project will be opened. In this example there are four different project in the list.

3.2 - Compiler Menu

Selecting the item “Compiler” the following menu appear:

The menu “Compiler” has a single item named “Compile Project”. When clicking on this item, the program compiles the project and generates a .bin file. The keyboard shortcut for this command is: Ctrl+F10. The ex-ecution of project compiling is necessary and mandatory, it is not possible to program DFGSM3 module if the project has not been previously compiled. The project compiling will generate the related .bin file with the same name of the source project but with the different extension. The user could also decide to assign a dif -ferent name to file .bin, in any case it is recommended to leave the same name of the project.

3.3 - Communication Menu

Selected the item “Communication” the following menu appear:

The menu “Communication” allows to start the USB communication from PC to DFGSM3 module. Once the communication has been en-abled, programming, reading or erasing functions on DFGSM3 module can be performed. To find which virtual COM is used for the commu-nication, click on the item “Select COM”; this action recalls the com-munication window. Keyboard shortcut for this command: F8.

To disable the communication, click on the item “De-Select COM” or use the keyboard shortcut Shift+F8. To erase the DFGSM3 memory, thus the loaded project, click on “Erase DFGSM3 memory” or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F7. To program the DFGSM3 memory click on “Program DFGSM3 memory” or use the key-board shortcut F7. Finally, to read the DFGSM3 memory, click on “Read DFGSM3 memory” or use the key-board shortcut Shift+F7. The function previously described will be detailed later.

Selecting the item “GSM Tools” the following menu appear:

The menu “GSM Tools” lists several items. The item “Real time GSM logger” allows to monitor the communication between DFGSM3 module and GSM engine. This real time logger could be useful for the resolution of possible problems. The item “SDCARD Logger” allows to read the log file stored in the internal module memory CARD. DFGSM3 module automatically performs a daily log saving all significant events occurred during the day. The item “Enable/Disable PIN SIM code” is used to enable or disable the SIM PIN code, acting directly on the SIM inserted on the GSM en-gine. The item “Change SIM PIN code” is used to change the PIN code of the SIM. The item “Send PUK code” is used to unlock the

SIM if a wrong PIN code has been entered for three time in succession. The item “Set Date and Time of DFGSM3 module” is used for setting the date and time of DFGSM3 module. This function is used if the module work stand-alone and then it is not connected to the Domino bus.The date and time is fundamental for the management of the log on SDCARD, because each event will be located into a well defined timing. If instead DFGSM3 module is connected to the Domino BUS, and DFCK or DFCP module are present, the module will align its date and time to the BUS line. The item “Erase all SMS from the SIM” is used to erase all SMS stored in the SIM card. This function is useful if the SIM card is not blank. The last item “Read FW revision of GSM engine” is used for reading the firmware revision loaded in the GSM Engine. All these functions will be discussed in details in the next chapter.

3.5 - Option Menu

Selecting the item “Option” the following menu appear:

This menu has only one item for the selection of the program language. Clicking on the item “Language”, the windows for language selection will be recalled.

3.6 - Guide Menu

This chapter will highlight the procedure to be followed for entering data for the correct DFGSM3 module con-figuration. The subjects that will be described in this chapter are the following:

Basic parameters configuration necessary for the correct DFGSM3 module working Users table configuration Commands table configuration for incoming SMS Voice calls configuration Texts table configuration for outgoing SMS, digital section Texts table configuration for outgoing SMS, analog section Generic texts configuration for outgoing SMS, generic section Outgoing SMS arrangement Special outgoing SMS arrangement SMS forwarding configuration SIM residual credit request configuration

4.1 - Introduction to the tables for data entering

The DFGSMTools program uses five different tables for the data entering during module configuration; each table is located in the appropriate folder. For entering the data in the several tables, follow the recommenda-tions here below described:

1) To enter a new parameter or to modify an existing one, double click, with the left mouse button, on the interested cell. This cell changes color, from white to azure, to confirm the selection. Inside the cell the cursor starts to blink to show that it is possible to enter new data

2) After data entering, push the key ”ENTER” or ”TAB” on the keyboard. In this way the system shifts on the successive cell on the right side and it is ready to accept new data. It is possible to change the cell using the mouse, executing a double click in the desired cell

3) If the data entered in the cell is incorrect, or simply to discard the new entering, push the key ”ESC” on the keyboard for abort the new data

4) To erase the data in the cell, selected it and push the key “DELETE” on the keyboard5) During data entering, it is possible to move the cursor on the left or on the right inside the cell. This is

possible using the arrow key “RIGHT” or “LEFT” on the keyboard. This function is available only when the data are entered using the keyboard; if the data was selected from a drop down list the user can use the arrow key “UP” or “DOWN” to scroll the data or the key “PAGE UP“ or “PAGE DOWN“ if the list is too long

6) To erase a character during the data entering use the key “BACKSPACE” or “DELETE”7) To exit from entering mode click, with the left mouse button, on the any cell of the table or push in se -

4.2 - Users folder

We start the discussion starting from the users folder. As said before, the data entering must start from the first folder on the left and ends with the last folder on the right. Obviously, it is possible to jump from a folder to another one without any problems. To simplify the discussion we will create a simple project which will list the steps to be followed, until the DFGSM3 module programming and finally its setting up. The following fig-ure shows the users folder table and some other needed parameters.

In this table four users have been entered, each one with his name, a phone number and a comment. The user name can be any and the comment isn't mandatory; it is advisable to always use the comments be-cause they may be useful during system maintenance. The phone number for each users should preferably include the international prefix. If you don't know your international prefix consult the list “International Area Code” (See the figure).

In this project the function “jolly number” has been enabled, allow-ing a not listed user to send a command via SMS to DFGSM3 module (Note: It is not possible to execute a voice call with from the jolly number). This function requires the insertion of a pass-word that is necessary and mandatory; in this example the pass-word is “123456”. The password can include any alphanumeric character, in other words numbers and letters; the space is not al-lowed. The max length of the password is eight chars, the system is case insensitive. The password must always be inserted at the beginning of the SMS followed by a space char. All text com-mands must be inserted in queue. The “jolly number” function was designed for the emergency case (e.g. if your phone is not available). Other parameters are listed in the section “Setting of DFGSM3 parameters” here described. The first step consists to assign the bus base address of DFGSM3 module. In this example the address 128 has been assigned.DFGSM3 module occupies four digital input addresses on the BUS

Domino and then, starting from the address 128, the input addresses 129, 130 and 131 will be occupied too.

DUEMMEGI DFGSM3: programming manual R.1.2 DominoFor each address 16 points are available. DFGSM3 module is seen by the system as a digital input module, meaning that up a maximum of 64 entry points (4 addresses x 16 points) are available. Each one of these points can be managed by one ore more commands sent via SMS from a listed user (or jolly) to DFGSM3 module. No output address is used. The next field to set is “Separator for outgoing SMS” that is used for “formatting” the outgoing SMS. There are three choices, the first is “New line” which indicates that the formatting of the text output includes a car-riage return (CR) between a parameter and the next one. The second option is the separator “Semicolon”, meaning that the parameters are separated by the character “;”. The last option is the separator “Comma” which will insert a character “,” between a parameter and the next one. The following figures shows the same message formatted according each one of the three cases.

The SIM cards managed by the telephone operators have a PIN and PUK code. If the PIN code has been en -abled on the SIM, it is mandatory send this code during the GSM engine initialization. Otherwise the initializ-ation of the GSM engine cannot be concluded and therefore the access to the GSM network will be denied. Assuming that used SIM card has the PIN code enabled, you must check the configuration item “Enable the SIM PIN Management” and insert the PIN code in the text box “SIM PIN”. As shown in the figure, it is also possible to enter the PUK code. The PUK code must be entered not so much because it is necessary for the proper operation of DFGSM3 module, but only as a reminder in case you lost it. Again as a reminder, you can enter the phone number used by DFGSM3 module. If the entered PIN code is wrong, DFGSM3 module cannot complete the initialization, and the module will enter in an error condition. This anomaly is reported by LEDs on the front panel of the module. See data sheet for details on LED signals and their meaning. If the SIM PIN code is not enabled, it isn't necessary to complete the fields described above, however, may still be useful to compile them for later use as a reminder, as already extensively explained before.

DFGSM3 can send a power failure SMS to the selected phone numbers. In the section “Settings of Power Failure Timer” it is possible to set two timing parameters. The first is the “Delay for Sending Power Failure SMS” and indicates how many time the

module must wait, after the power failure, before to send the power failure SMS to selected users. This time may be useful to mask any “hole” in the power supply that could cause the sending of SMS message even in the case of very short interruptions. In this example the sending of the power failure SMS will occur if the power fails for a period longer than 10 seconds, otherwise it will not send it. The maximum allowable value is 600 seconds. The value 0 second is also accepted, meaning that the module will send the message immedi-ately. The second parameter indicates how many time the module waits before to switch off itself after a power failure. The allowable times for the auto shut-off are in the range 0 minutes to 240 minutes. In this ex -ample the value is set to 1 minute. To summarize, in this example, DFGSM3 module shuts-down after a period of 70 seconds; in other words 10 seconds for sending SMS power fails and additional 60 seconds before shutting down the module.

The concept just exposed is also valid for sending the power back SMS. In the section “Settings of Power Back Timer” it is possible to set the parameter “Delay for Sending Power Back SMS” which

indicates how many time the module waits, from the return of power, before to send the power back SMS to selected users. As for the power failure, this time can be in the range 0 to 600 seconds. All settings concern-ing the sending of SMS messages just discussed will be detailed in the “Definition of Special SMS” that will

be discuss later.

The last section “International Area Code” is used for finding the international prefix of your country.

4.3 - Command strings for ingoing SMS

The folder “Commands for Ingoing SMS”, as the name suggests, allows to set the relationship between a string, to be sent to DFGSM3 module via SMS, and the related command (or commands). The following figure shows the folder for this settings:

The DFGSM3 module allow to manage up to 64 different commands; for each command it is necessary and mandatory to assign a name (or string) which must be unique. The name for the command must be entered in the column “Name of the command for ingoing SMS” (double-click to insert it into desired cell as dis-cussed earlier). For each command, up to three separate actions can be set (Action 1, Action 2 and Action 3). For each action it is necessary to set three parameters; the first is the “Type” and it identifies the type of desired action:

● ON switches ON the specified DFGSM3 BUS point or local output● OFF switches OFF the specified DFGSM3 BUS point or local output● Pulse performs a pulse on specified DFGSM3 BUS point or local output● Send SMS performs the sending of specified SMS to the selected users. The configuration of outgo-

ing SMS is performed in the folder “Definition of Outgoing SMS“ that will be discussed later. The SMS to be sent is specified in the column “Point”

The second parameter “Address” identifies the target of the action; the target may be an address (among those used by DFGSM3 module) or a local output (in this case the item “OUT” must be selected). In this ex-ample the possible addresses are 128, 129, 130 and 131, because 128 was the address we decided to as-sign to DFGSM3. If the first parameter is “Send SMS”, then the “Address” cell will be disabled (grey color) because it has not meaning. Finally, the parameter "P.nt" allows to select, depending on the specific case, the following parameters:

● 1 - 16: point associated to the selected target address (as specified in the column “Address”). Allow-able value ranges from 1 to 16.

● LOC1 - LOC4: local output. DFGSM3 module has four local outputs, two relay outputs (LOC1 and LOC2) and two open collector outputs (LOC3 and LOC4)

The three actions associated to a command are performed almost simultaneously, while between different command there is a pause of 1 second. For example, sending a SMS with the command string “ON-LOC123” (see the previous figure), the DFGSM3 module will switch ON simultaneously the three local outputs (LOC1, LOC2 and LOC3 ).Sending instead a SMS containing the command string “ON-LOC123” followed by the command string “OFF-LOC123” (separated by a space) DFGSM3 module will first turn on the local outputs (LOC1, LOC2 and LOC3) at the same time, and after 1 second will turn off the outputs.

The three actions of the same command may also be of a different nature from each to other; in other words it is possible configure an action of type “ON” with a action like “Send SMS” as highlight by the commands 17 and 18.It is recommended to assign a mnemonic name to each string command, in order to easily recognize and re-member what actions each command will execute. When compose the SMS to be sent to DFGSM3 module from your mobile phone, it is mandatory to enter a space between a command string and the next one, other-wise the system will not be able to discriminate the entered commands. The maximum length of each SMS is 160 chars, while the maximum length for a single command string is 15 chars.

Note: the command string cannot include a space char or special chars. The program, during the insertion of the command name, mask the invalid chars.

4.4 - Voice calls settings

In this folder it is possible to enable and set the voice call toward DFGSM3 module for all users included in the folder “Users”. The voice call is used to execute a DFGSM3 command without sending an SMS. If the DFGSM3 recognizes the caller (through its phone number, if visible), after a couple of rings it ends the call without answering and executes the command specified in this table for that user; this action has zero cost (obviously if the expected result of the voice call is to send an SMS to a desired user, this isn't a zero cost for DFGSM3 module). The following figure shows the folder for the management of the voice calls:

This folder lists all users that have been inserted in the folder “Users”. For each user the voice call can be ac-tivate or not; to activate it, click on button “OFF” in the column “Active”. The button changes to “ON” to indic-ate that the voice call is now activated for that user. To disable the voice call click again the button to change it to “OFF”. The columns “Users name” and “Phone Number” cannot be changed and reports the name and phone number of listed users. The column “Command” allows to select the command to be executed when receiving the voice call from that number. The commands appearing in the list are the commands previously entered in the folder “Command for Ingoing SMS”.The column “Comment” is used to insert a comment for the voice call. Even if this is not mandatory, it is however recommended to add a mnemonic comment.

DUEMMEGI DFGSM3: programming manual R.1.2 Domino4.5 - Texts for outgoing SMS, digital section

In the folder “SMS Out Text. Digital” the user sets the texts related to the status of digital inputs or outputs (both bus points and local inputs) that DFGSM3 module will send to the user via SMS. Please note that DFGMS3 module has 8 ON-OFF local inputs. The following figure show the folder for the management of the texts for the outgoing SMS, digital section:

In this folder it is possible to associate a desired text to digital Inputs/Outputs state. In practice, the text into the SMS will be that one related to the state 0 (OFF) or to state 1 (ON) depending on the current Input/Output state. Remember that it is not possible to report the state of the 4 local outputs of DFGSM3 module. The first two columns “Text for STATUS '0'” and “Text for STATUS '1'” allows to enter the text to be used for the composition of the outgoing SMS when the state of the related input or output is OFF or ON. The max-imum length for the text it is 16 chars, the space char are allowed. The column “Add. IN” is used to set the BUS input address of the bus module whose status has to be reported. Once entered the input address, automatically the adjacent cell for the output address “Add. OUT”, will be disabled (gray color); see rows 5, 6, 7 and 8 as example. If instead an output point has to be reported, then click on a cell in the column “Add. OUT” (in this case the cell used for the insertion of the input address will be disabled); see rows 1, 2, 3 and 4 as example. For both cases, input and output address, it is necessary to set the point number to be reported in the column “Point”; in all cases just described, the cells in the column “Inp. LOC” will be disabled. To report the status of a local input of DFGSM3 module, click on a cell in the column “ Inp. LOC”, selecting which of the eight inputs you want to manage. When using the local inputs, the cells for the input, output and point settings will be disabled; see rows from 9 to 16 as example. The comments are MANDATORY because they are used in the folder “Definition of Outgoing SMS”.The maximum number of texts that can be entered for the management of digital points is 128.

4.6 - Texts for outgoing SMS, analog section

In the folder “SMS Out Text. Analog” it is possible to configure the texts for sending input/output analog val-ues read from the modules connected to the Domino bus. DFGSM3 module haven't local analog inputs. The following figure shows the folder for the management of the texts for outgoing SMS, analog section:

In this folder it is possible to set the parameters for the management of the texts to be associated to Input/Output analog modules connected to the Domino bus. The first two columns “Text before the analog value” and “Text after the analog value”, allow to enter the text to be used in the composition of the outgo-ing SMS. When using a text before the analog value and a text after the analog value, automatically the in-formation will be more clear, for example a measure of temperature. The maximum number of chars for each text is 16; it is very important that the user enters the appropriate text for the analog value, in order to have an information that can be easily interpreted by the user receiving the message. The 3rd column allows to enter the mask to be applied to the analog value (it is used to clear the bits that are not significant for the value read by the module); to insert the mask click on the related cell under the column “Msk”. Typically the correct mask value is always 0xFFFF except for some modules (e.g. DFDV); appendix A contains a table that, for each Domino analog module, gives the correct value of the mask (and also of other parameters). Then it is necessary to enter the Input or Output module bus address. To do this, click on the desired cells under the column “Add. IN” or “Add. OUT” depending on the module type. When setting the input address, the cell for the output address will be disabled (gray color), and vice versa.Next parameters allow to “rescale” the value read from the module, in order to show it in the SMS with the proper scale of measurement; to do this, set the 5 parameters described below.“Field Start” and “Field End” are used to set values, lower and upper, that the analog module send on the BUS. The parameter “Start Val.” indicates the minimum value to be shown and “End. Val” indicates the max-imum value; refer to appendix A to find the proper values for each Domino analog module. Finally it is necessary to set the number of decimal for the value to be shown, in the column “Dec.”. The max-imum allowed number for decimal digits is 3. Thanks to these five parameters, DFGSM3 module can process the analog values read from the field and then display them in the desired scale. The calculated value is inserted between the two texts previously entered (“Text before the analog value” and “Text after the analog value”).

4.7 - Texts for outgoing SMS, generic section

A generic text is a phrase, or series of words, to be inserted into an outgoing SMS. This function does not de-pend on BUS points or local inputs. In the folder “SMS Out text. Generic” it is possible to enter up to a maximum of 8 general texts, usable for the composition of outgoing SMS. For each text it is possible to enter up to a maximum of 120 characters; it is possible to insert space and special chars. The following picture show the folder for the management of the generic texts for outgoing SMS:

The shown example defines four general texts which can be used to compose a simple help message, useful if the user has forgotten the texts defined for the commands to be sent via SMS to the DFGSM3 module. We analyze a part of generic text 1 to highlight the criterion by which the help text are formatted (remember that this is only an example):

ON-LOC123->(ON-OUT-LOC1; ON-OUT-LOC2; ON-OUT-LOC3)

The beginning is the command string (ON-LOC123), see “Commands for Ingoing SMS” folder, and then, in-side round parenthesis, the three actions that will be performed by that command.A similar text has been used for all other commands included in this help messages.Remember that this is only an example, the users can fill the generic texts with any text which they consider appropriate based on the application which is being realized.

DUEMMEGI DFGSM3: programming manual R.1.2 Domino4.8 - Definition of outgoing SMS

The folder “Definition of Outgoing SMS” allows to configure the outgoing SMS to be sent to one or more users selected among the available ones. Available users are those listed in the folder “Users” which has been discussed previously. It is not possible to send a SMS to a user who does not appear in the folder “Users”. The following figure shows the folder “Definition of Outgoing SMS” regarding the configuration of the SMS number 5 (for instance):

To select the SMS on which to work click on the drop down list in the section “SMS symbolic name”; from the list that will appear select the desired number of SMS. The list shows sequentially all available SMS; it is also possible to assign a symbolic name to the selected SMS; to do this use the text box beside the just men-tioned drop down list. Entering a name, this will also appear in the list for choosing the SMS to be configured. The name is also useful in the folder “Commands for Ingoing SMS” when the action to be assigned to a in-going SMS is the sending of an outgoing SMS.The next step requires to select a trigger, in other words the event that causes the sending of the SMS. The trigger can be only a BUS digital inputs/outputs point or a local inputs of DFGSM3 module. To select the de-sired trigger, choose it from the drop down list in the section “Select the trigger”. This list will show all the comments that have been entered in the folder “SMS Out Text. Digital” (because it is the comment that identifies the digital point). In addition, the edge of the trigger must be chosen: rising edge, falling edge or both. The rising edge means that related SMS will be sent when the “trigger point” goes from logic level “0” to logic level “1”, otherwise, for the falling edge, when the “trigger point” goes from logic level “1” to logic level “0”. Selecting both options, the SMS will be sent on both edges of the trigger point. Finally, the system behavior at the power up of DFGSM3 must be decided; this allows to define how the trigger point should be interpreted at the power up. For ex-ample, selecting “At power up the status is 0” means that the module expects to find, during the power on, the trigger point to logic value “0”, otherwise it will be triggered to send SMS 5 (in this example). The option “Send the SMS to the caller too”, if checked, indicates that the SMS, in addition to the listed users, will be sent also to the user that performed a voice call or sent a command SMS to DFGSM3 module. Of course this phone number must be however a member of the list of users entered in the folder “Users”.

Select in the drop down list the SMS to be set, for example the SMS to be sent when a power supply failure occurs, and check the option “En-able/Disable”. If the option is checked the system will send the power failure special outgoing SMS. Enter in the text box the desired text to be sent in the SMS. The same approach has to be followed for the oth-

er special outgoing SMS. For each of them the user must decide to enable or less this function and which text must be sent for each related event. Then select the users to which each special outgoing SMS has to be sent and the related if required.Besides the configuration of the special outgoing SMS, this folder allows to configure two additional functions; the first is the forwarding of the SMS received from not listed users (the phone number do not appear in the users list). For example, advertising SMS or service SMS sent by the phone provider. The received SMS can

be forwarded to one (and only one) of the listed users or to any tele-phone number. To enable the SMS forwarding check the option “Enable the function for the forwarding of the SMS received from a not listed user”; the related section, here shown, will be enabled. In this section, select one of the 2 options “Select the phone number from the list of enabled users” or “Enter the phone number if not a listed user”.

Domino DFGSM3: programming manual R.1.2 DUEMMEGIIf a phone number is preferred, remember that it is recommend to insert also the country code, e.g. +39 for Italy . In the example in the figure, a listed user has been selected. The second function allows to require the residual credit of the SIM card inserted into DFGSM3. Of course, each operator has its own procedure for the request of residual credit. To recall the configuration window click on the button “Settings for request of residual credit of the SIM card”. The following picture will be shown. The entered data are referred, for example, to the configuration needed for a specific Italian operator.

To enable the function for the request of residual credit, check the option “Enable request of residual credit”. This action will enable some fields in the window. In the text box “Setting of the keyword for request of residual credit” insert a mandatory keyword that is the keyword to be sent, via SMS to DFGSM3 module. This keyword will activate the procedure for the request of residual credit. The user can enter a desired text, for this example it was used the keyword “Credito”.In the next step the user configures the parameters in the section “Setting parameters own operator”. The mobile operators can manage the request of residual credit via SMS or voice call to a well defined phone number. In the case of voice call, select the option “Voice call to the operator”, otherwise select “SMS sending to the operator”.In the example here described, the operator manages the request of residual credit via SMS, therefore the option “SMS sending to the operator” has been selected. In the phone number text box in-sert the number 40916 (for this example), while the string “PRE CRE SIN” has been entered in the other text box. Note that the phone number and the related string inserted in this example are

specific for an well defined Italian operator and cannot applied to other operators. With this configuration, sending a SMS containing the string “Credito” from a listed phone number to DFGS-M3 module, the following events will happen:

DFGSM3 module receives the message containing the keyword “Credito” It prepare an SMS with the string “PRE CRE SIN” to be sent to the phone number “40916” The operator, as soon as possible, send a SMS containing the amount of residual credit to DFGSM3 If the SMS forwarding feature has been enabled, DFGMS3 module will forward the received SMS to

the selected phone number DFGSM3 module will erase the SMS received from operator

The described procedure refers to the Italian operator TIM; for WIND Italian operator the procedure for the request of residual credit is similar but not equal, the phone number for the request of residual credit is “4155” while the text of the SMS must be “SALDO”.

DUEMMEGI DFGSM3: programming manual R.1.2 DominoNow repeat the example for the Vodafone Italian operator which requires a voice call for the request of the re-sidual credit.

In this case, the option “Voice call to the operator” has been se-lected, thus enabling only the text box for entering the phone num-ber. In this example the phone number is“404”.With this configuration, sending a SMS from a listed phone number containing the string “Credito”, the following events will happen:

DFGSM3 module receives the message containing the keyword “Credito”

DFGSM3 performs a voice call to the phone number “404” The operator stops the voice call and, as soon as possible,

send a SMS to DFGSM3 containing the amount of residual credit

If the SMS forwarding feature has been enabled, DFGMS3 module will forward the received SMS to the selected phone number

DFGSM3 module will erase the SMS received from operat-or

It is also possible to submit a request of residual credit starting from a digital point variation of a BUS point or a DFGSM3 local inputs.

To enable this function check the option “Enable residual credit from BUS digital input or local input”. Now it is possible to select a digital BUS point (specifying address and point) or a DFGSM3 module local input.Supposing to want to use a BUS digital input, select the option “BUS input” and enter the input module address and the related point in the apposite text box.To use a local input select the option “Local input” and enter the input number from 1 to 8.The request of residual credit to own operator will be thus started by the variation of digital input (BUS or local) from logic low value to logic high value (from OFF to ON). The system only works on this edge.By proper setting of a DFCK module installed on a Domino BUS, it is possible to program a timed request of residual credit. For ex-ample it is possible to set the system so that there is a request of residual credit once a week.

NOTE: The procedure described for the request of residual credit for the various operator (TIM Italy, Vodafone Italy and WIND Italy) may be subject to change by the same operators; in other words, we cannot guarantee that the procedures described today for the request of residual credit are valid or working in the future. So, if these functions have to be used, it is always advisable to check its validity by consulting the website of the involved operator.

5.0 - Management, compilation and project download

Once the data entry and all configurations have been completed, it is necessary to compile the project to gen-erate a binary file .bin which will be transferred to DFGSM3 module memory. The compilation step is essential and mandatory: it is not possible to program DFGSM3 module if the project has not been compiled before. To compile the project, click on the menu item “Compiler“ and select “Com-pile Project“ (or press keyboard buttons Ctrl+F10 or click on the icon on the command bar).

For coherence and to prevent future problems, it is recommended to create a file .bin with the same name as the project file (.gsm). For example if the project is named “CasaInMontagna.gsm” the name of the file .bin should be “CasaInMontagna.bin”.If the compiling process is successful, it is possible to proceed with the programming of the DFGSM3 mod-ule, otherwise all the problems reported by the compiler must be solved. The first step is to establish the communication between PC and DFGSM3 module. Assuming that the USB cable is properly inserted and that the drivers have been already installed, click on the menu item “Commu-

nication“ and select “Select COM“ (or press keyboard buttons F8 or click on the icon on the command

bar). The following window appear:To automatically find DFGSM3 module connected to USB cable click on the button “Automatic Detection”. If the module is found, it will be identified and after a string will appear similar to the fol-lowing: “DFGSM3 FW. 1.0 : 0.0” (this identifies the current firm-ware version of the module). Time Out of transmission can be left to 200.To disable the communication between PC and DFGSM3 module click on the menu item “Communication“ and select “De-Select COM“ or press keyboard buttons Shift+F8 or click on the icon

.

Now it is possible to start the programming of DFGSM3 module. To program the module memory click on the menu item “Com-munication“ and select “Program DFGSM3 memory“ or press keyboard button F7 or click on the icon . The first window

here bottom on the left will appear; click on the button “Start” and wait for the programming end. The green progress bar shows the

status of the programming. If it is necessary to stop the programming click on the button “Stop”. When pro-gramming is completed, the windows on the right will appear.

It is possible to read the DFGSM3 module memory and then rebuild the project (useful function if the project file have been lost). To read the module memory click on the menu item “Communication“ and select “Read

DFGSM3 memory“ or press keyboard buttons Shift+F7 or click on the icon . The windows sequence is

almost identical to the previous:

1) Connect DFGSM3 module to the power supply2) Connect included mini USB cable, first to the PC USB port and then to DFGSM3 mini USB3) In the case it is the first time that a DFGSM3 module is connected to the PC, it is necessary to install

the communication drivers distributed with DFGSMTools program. In this case the PC realizes that a new device was connected and suggest the driver installation (see the paragraph describing USB driver installation)

4) Recall the communication window by pressing the F8 key on the keyboard. In the window that will ap-pear click on the button “Automatic Detection”. If the module is connected and the driver was prop-erly installed, then DFGSM3 module will be found

5) If DFGSM3 module will not be found, disconnect the mini USB cable from DFGSM3 module, close the window and press keyboard buttons Shift+F8 (“De-Select COM“)

6) Reconnect the mini USB cable and press the keyboard button F8 and the “Automatic Detection”7) At this point if the DFGSM3 module has been identified it is possible proceed with the programming

of the module pressing the keyboard button F7 (“Program DFGSM3 memory“)

The colors assumed by the LED are summarized in the following figure, which can be recalled at any time by clicking on the button with the ques-tion mark inside.

6.2 - SDCARD Logger

DFGSM3 module can access to the SDCARD, installed inside DFGSM3, where all events of the day have been logged. It is therefore possible to read this log to examine the actions performed by the module during each day. The module performs the daily log, which means that a file will be created for for each day; the files stored on SDCARD are cataloged by year and month in special folders created by the system. To read this files it is necessary to click on menu item “GSM Tools“ and select “SDCARD Logger“; the following window will appear:

As shown in the previous figure, three text boxes are available to enter the date of the log file to be read. The system automatically shows in the three text boxes the current date (detected by the PC), but the user can enter the desired date. Once entered the desired date, click on the button “Read daily log file” to read and visualize the desired log file. To clear the window click on the button “Clear the log file window” (this option do not erase the log file). To save the log file on the PC click on the button “Save log”.
