Degree Level Apprenticeship (DLA) – Aims and Design Principles

Aims

➢ To develop a National work based learning qualification that fully meets the needs of industry

➢ To have the award fully recognised nationally via identified professional and other identified

bodies.

➢ To align the award with the requirements of the Engineering Council UK Spec, *(AHEP)

➢ To design an award that is totally transferable across the UK and beyond.

➢ To create an award that can be delivered in a variety of modes to meet all user needs.

Degree Level Apprenticeship (DLA) – Aims and Design Principles

Design

The structure of the award (DLA) has been modelled on the well established Modern

Apprenticeship Framework (MA) Model:

➢ Knowledge and Understanding – eg. (BEng Hons. Accredited Degree for the IEng route).

➢ Work-based Learning component – (covering identified missing skills).

➢ Benchmarked against the National Occupational Standards (NOS).

➢ Levelled against the Scottish Credit Qualification Framework (SCQF).

➢ Aligned with the requirements of the Engineering Council UK Spec, (AHEP).

➢ Complies with ‘Principles of Work based learning and Graduate Apprenticeships’ (SDS)

➢ Fully integrated and contextualised to meet employer needs.

Degree Level Apprenticeship (DLA) – Professional Transferable Skills

➢ Professional transferable skills- the skills that degree apprentices require to be able to

function in the workplace.

➢ Engagement with over 50 UK wide employers to identify what was required

➢ Skills benchmarked against the National Occupational Standards (NOS). (In line with

Scottish Government requirements).

➢ Integrated into the training plan

➢ SCQF levelled and mapped to the requirements of the Engineering Council UK Spec,

Direct Entry available to students with a BEng (2.2) minimum.

Note: the identified work based vocational skills have been structured to create a PDA Work based learning diploma.The GLA will be delivered in the workplace using a blended learning training plan model. The time to complete the award will be subject to the apprentice having achieved the competence levels as required the requirements of AHEP.

A 3 Year programme, 60 credits per year, 120 taught credits plus 60 credit company specific project.
