The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation identifies small area concentrations of multiple deprivation across all of Scotland Relative measure ranking the 6,505 datazones in Scotland from 1 being most deprived to 6,505 being the least deprived What should a Housing Domain measure? suitability of housing ? inadequacy of housing ? physical housing condition ? SIMD 2004, 2006 and 2009 Housing Domain Persons in households without central heating (2001 Census) Persons in households that are overcrowded (2001 Census) Housing domain low weighting only 2% in 2009 Requirements of data sources A significant count within each data zone (ruling out most survey data e.g. SHCS) A figure for each data zone which can be ranked 1 to 6,505 e.g. DZ ranked 1 has the highest percentage of bad housing This ranking accurately reflects the standard of housing in each data zone i.e. those in DZ1 are actually the most housing deprived Other Administrative Sources Social Housing Stock Approx 600,000 houses 100 per DZ Lettings to Social Houses per year Approx 60,000 lettings 10 per DZ LA Housing List Applicants Approx 200,000 applicants 30 per DZ IMD in England Barriers to Housing and Services Domain Sub Domain: Wider Barriers Household overcrowding Homeless applications Difficulty of Access to owner-occupation Living Environment Deprivation Domain Sub Domain: The indoors living environment Social and private housing in poor condition Houses without central heating IMD in Northern Ireland Living Environment Domain Sub-Domain: Housing Quality Decent Homes Standard Housing Health and Safety Rating System Sub-Domain: Housing Access homelessness acceptances Sub-Domain: Outdoor Physical Environment local area problem score IMD in Wales Lack of central heating Overcrowding (excluding student households) Breakout Groups What should a housing domain measure?
