Elective Options

Digital Media Technologies for Teaching in Medicine

Introduces faculty to use of Web 2.0 digital media technologies that are creating revolutionary changes in how we think about teaching and learning in the 21st century. Provides an opportunity to learn strategies for using digital and social media in preclinical and clinical settings.

Reflective Practice in Medical Education

Explores reflective practice including the educator’s role in developing trainees as reflective practitioners and the role of reflection in one’s own professional development. Introduces narrative medicine as a reflective practice.

How do you pay for a TiME course?

VCU-paid faculty may use their tuition waiver benefits to cover the costs of courses.

Other faculty who teach for the School of Medicine are encouraged to seek tuition assistance benefits through their home institutions.

• Up to two courses per semester (full-time).

• If employee withdraws after the deadline / fails to complete the course / leaves the University / earns an unsatisfactory grade, tuition waiver is revoked and employee becomes responsible for tuition.

Application Process

Upon University approval of the Certificate in Medical Education program, faculty will need to apply to the School of Education to earn the Certificate.

Faculty member completes University Tuition Waiver form and In-State tuition form (if needed).

Faculty member obtains a letter of support from department or division chair.

Faculty member completes TiME application form and submits a 1-page letter of interest / reasons for wanting to join the program.
