such thiruvaiyARRuk kAvirik kOTTam !
Notes:
1. chEramAn perumaL and cundharar on their pilgrimage came near thiruvaiyARu fromthirukkaNDiyUr. The river kAviri was flooding, how would they cross the river to salute their
beloved Lord of thiruvaiyARu ? cundharar sang this song which had the flood of devotion
more than that flowed on the kAviri. He cries, "As an ignorant I do not know how to properlyworship You, nor is my devotion a fulfilling one." The Lord Who fought in the court to get
cundharar to keep singing Him, made a path appear in the middle of flooding kAviri, through
which the devout friends came and worshipped the Supreme. (c.f. unnai van^dhippadhOr
n^eRiyaRiyEn n^innaiyE aRiyEn n^innai aRiyumOr aRivaRiyEn - thiruvAcakam)
2. When the flood of senses obstructing the way, if one sings this song, won't themArgabhandhu bless the way ? 3. Especially the phrase "aiyARuDaiya aDikaLO" in this all

Meaning:
Singing the Lord, Who has the pretty moon as a snare (in the garland), along with the
daughter of the king of mounts, carrying water in time (for worship)they enter and I enter
following them. Without anytrace as I entered thiruvaiyARu, saw the male elephant coming
with its loving pair. Saw Their Holy Feet, the Unseen I saw !!
Notes:1. This very renowned song is sung by the saint,as he saw the glorious scene of God andGoddess of kayilai appeared in front of him at thiruvaiyARu. The saint was in his pursuit to
worship the Seat of Lord at Mount Kailash. He went ahead in the mountains not bothering

about the body getting torn off. The Lord Who probably wanted to show the world an easy
way to worship kailash, out of the austerities of saint appar, redirected him to take a dip in the
nearby pool and come out at thiruvaiyARu. The flawless sage came out of the pond in
thiruvaiyARu with a flawless body and saw the splendid scene of kayilAyam appearing in
thiruvaiyARu itself !2. The internal reference to the above episode is in the song itself as, "yAdhum chuvaDu
paDAmal aiyARu aDaikinRa pOdhu". 3. pOdhu could also be interpreted as flower. Then
the meaning would be "They enter with flower and water (for worship)."
