The 20 caused turnovers tied for the second most in school history.

Apr. 17, 2013 - The much-hyped interstate battle between the Detroit Mercy and Michigan men’s lacrosse teams produced so much energy, lightning was all over the scene as the Titans’ game against the Wolverines was suspended and later cancelled due to inclement weather. It was 4-3 Titans with 6:32 left in the second period when the second lightning delay sent teams off the field.

Apr. 27, 2013 - Detroit Mercy needed a win in its final regular season game to make the MAAC Championship and it got that on Senior Day as the Titans scored the game’s first four goals, seven alone in the first period, to earn the fourth and final seed with a 13-7 victory over Canisius. Ten different Titans scored a goal, while senior goalie A.J. Levell made a season-high 18 saves in net.

The win also gave the fourth-seeded Titans an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship for a program that is in its fifth year of existence and just its fourth year in the MAAC as they tied Bryant (2013) as the quickest programs to ever reach the NCAA Championship. The MAAC Most Outstanding Player went to Birney with his five goals in the game – which also tied a career high with five points - and three in the semifinals. It looked like Detroit Mercy was going to get run out of the championship game as Siena scored seven of eight from the midpoint of the first period to the 5:05 mark in the second, but trailing 9-4 early in the third, the Detroit Mercy offense started to rev up with five-straight goals.

Levell made 10 saves in net, including five in the fourth, and senior Jordan Houtby has three caused turnovers and a game-high nine ground balls. The games brought together 128 of the finest senior lacrosse players in the country for one final game to end their collegiate career in a tradition that began in the 1940’s.
