determining the percentage mass of acetic acid in vinegar
TRANSCRIPT
Add into Burette
Shake it to clean the Burette
After that, turn out the NaOH from down of Burette Rinse it until 3 times
Add into Volumetric Flask
Add aquades until reach the limit indicator
Close the Volumetric Flask, then shake it
Determining the Percentage Volume of Acetic Acid in Vinegar
A. PurposeTo determine the percentage of acetic acid in Vinegar
B. Basic TheoryTitration of acetic acid solution and sodium hydroxide solution is an example of the titration of a weak acid and a strong base. The calculation of pH of the titration of a weak acid with a strong base can be separated into four different types, which corresponds to four of the titration curve.
C. Material & Equipment Burette Erlenmeyer flask Gratuated cylinder Pipets Burette clamp Buncher funnel
Vinegar NaOH 0.1 M Phenophlatein Indicator Volumetric Flask Aquades
D. ProcedureStep 1 : Dilution
Step 2 : Cleaning
A little of NaOH 0.1 M solution
The Burette is clean, and ready to use
5 mL of Vinegar
Result : Vinegar Solution
Add into Burette until the indicator at 0 mL
Add 3 drops of PP
Place it under the Burette that fills with NaOH Solution
Titrate with NaOH solution
Quickly stop titrate when the color of Vinegar change into pale pink
Take final reading to the volume of NaOH that needed to titrate Vinegar solution with looking at Burrete indicator
Step 3 : Titrating
E. Experimental Data
F. Analyze Data
1. Acetic Acid (M1 . V1) = (M2 . V2) NaOH
M . 10 = 0.1 . 11.57
M of Acetic Acid = 0.1 . 0.1 . 11.57
= 0.1157 M
2. % = M .Mm10 . ρ . df
= 0.1157 .7 0
10 .1 . 10
NaOH 0.1 M
Let it, and now, prepare the Vinegar solution
10 mL Vinegar Solution

Average 11.57 mL
= 8.099 %
G. Conclusion
To determine the percentage volume of Acetic Acid in Vinegar, we use formula :
% = M .Mm10 . ρ . df
