As you know, it’s important to make a great first impression when introduced. Following a meeting or brief introduction, a business card might be the last impression you leave on a customer after your first initial meeting. A business card is the piece of you that often represents you and your business brand.

So, these little pieces of paper can play a big role when being introduced and displays all the information for someone to connect with you.

Often, people think a business card is a piece of flimsy paper that has your name and information on it. Well, it can be that or it can be much more!

We are going to list some helpful tips on how to create a business card that not only will be impressive to the eye, but will be beneficial to you and your brand.

The beauty of hiring a designs, they can easily design other printed product you may need such as letterhead, postcards, flyers etc. They will all look consistent making your brand —> POWERFUL!

Well, hear are some basic ideas to focus on.

The Card StockWhen thinking about designing your business cards, sometimes the thickness of the card stock is overlooked. Kinda like a hand shake when introduced. You don’t want to offer a flimsy weak hand shake, you want provide a firm and sturdy hand shake.

Well, it’s similar to card stock. You can select a thin card stock or a more durable stock such as a 16PT, 22PT or even a super 32PT thick card.

Selecting a thicker stock helps prevent them from cracking or tearing. You’ll always want to hand out a premium card that’s not damaged. Take a moment and think about whether you’ll be adding a print feature isn as Spot UV or stamped foil. Often, these types of options require a thicker card stock. Business cards are available in a variety of options to make them as unique as you and your brand.

Keep in mind that the standard card stock for US business cards are 2” x 3.5” in size.

Another interesting card stock can be magnet. Depending on your business, this option may be a good fit. Often times used for product and services business such as heating and cooling company, appliance company, painter, etc. That way, your card will always be right there on the appliance that was recently installed or fixed.

Color Options for Your CardThis is where designing a card can be challenging, but fun as well. Choose the color of both the background and the font. Take time and experiment with the text over the background to see how it appears. You’ll want to select your business colors or colors that ultimately work well together and don’t clash. Plus, selecting the color can be important, as the colors have different meanings. Learn more about their meanings.

Try to stick to two colors when in the design process. As mentioned before, if you have a logo, try to incorporate those colors into the design.

A great way to determine if the design is good or so-so…ask a friend or a coworker. Having another set of eyes to look at the design can be helpful, but they may also pick up on some simple edits and grammar errors.

Font Selection (Typography) Once again, if you already have a logo, try to stay with the fonts included in the logo design. If not, go through some fonts to determine which will work best for you. Check out some stylish fonts here. Even though the font you may select looks cool and stylish, but please make sure that it’s easy to read. You don’t want someone to ask what your message on your card says because it’s too whimsical or elaborate.

Printing Options We briefly discussed Spot UV and stamped foil. Spot UV allows you to easily enhance a logo, image or pattern with a raised glossy finish on those selected items only. There are other printing options that can enhance the look and feel of your business card. Stamped foil is a popular choice and nine colors are available. If wanting to add an unlimited amount of color, it’s best to select inline foil.

Business Card Information All your important information needs to be included - front and center! Sometimes having a card with a simple design is better than a card full of information. Sometimes that information can get overlooked. Try to include the following: name, business position, company name, phone number, email address, physical address if available. Include social media profile only if you are active online.

Time to Hand Them Out Now that you have a well designed business card, it’s time to get them printed and hand them out. Make sure that you have some on you at all times. You never know when you’ll meet a potential customer.
