What is Pharmaceutical Marketing?

• It is the business of advertising or otherwise promoting the sale of pharmaceuticals or drugs.

Nature of work

• Pharmaceutical sales representatives are employed by drug companies

• The distribute information about their companies’ products to physicians, hospital nurses, and medical technicians.

• They don’t take drug orders from the physicians but instead try to persuade them to prescribe more of their companies’ drugs

Main Duties

• Individuals are responsible for advertising pharmaceutical drugs

• Devise a Marketing Strategy for the sales promotion

Education & Training

• Bachelor’s degree in an area related to pharmaceutical studies

• On-the-job training which consists of intensive study followed by supervised field work

Job Qualifications

• Must be extremely well versed in all health science concepts related to the job description

• Must have strong communication skills

• Be proficient at tailoring sales pitches

Salary range

• Entry Level - $ 38,555

• Experienced Marketing Executives - $ 65,464

Work Conditions

• Employees who have a pharmaceutical/ medical marketing job, will be required to travel most of the time because they deal with outside sales

• They only spend about 5 or 6 minutes with physicians

• Work about 40 hours a week
