“UTS creates opportunities for students to create high-calibre works though international studios, industry involvement and projects, high-end workshop facilities and guidance from experienced academics.

Product design has given me a holistic approach to solving design problems. I felt very welcomed in the UTS community and I was particularly intrigued by the fabrication workshop, which caters for soft modelling, wood working, metal manipulation and more.”

The future is our site.

At the UTS School of Architecture, we see architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture as powerful tools to transform our cities and societies in order to address the complex problems climate change presents us. We’re designers, strategic thinkers, globally focused and rigorous in our conceptual approach – and we’re committed to improving the physical and social environments in which we live.

SHAPE THE CONVERSATIONAs a school, we’re vibrant, dynamic and creative, always innovative in our perspectives on both the future and the past. Integrated into the multidisciplinary culture of DAB, our ideas are shaped by the conversations we share with our neighbouring design disciplines. Above all, we’re committed to advancing the built environment through teaching and research by looking beyond accepted structures, processes and boundaries.

LEARN FROM THE BESTWhen you study with us, you’ll be challenged to work collaboratively across and between related disciplines, from engineering to visual arts and filmmaking. You’ll study alongside internationally acclaimed academic and professional leaders, working in studios, workshops, computer labs and digital maker spaces that house the latest tools and technologies of the trade.

GLOBAL EXPOSURE = GLOBAL VISIONArchitecture, interior architecture and landscape architecture are global professions, and our degrees have a distinctly global focus. Our studio subjects will take you to some of the world’s great cities, giving you a thorough understanding of international best practice — so when you hit the ground after graduation, you’ll be ready to run.

“UTS is a university that prides itself on urban speculation, on real future thinking, and I wanted something that would help me build a complementary skillset.

I liked their speculative approach, I liked their attitude to technology, and they seemed to bring both together in a university environment.”

“UTS has many industry connections with construction companies, and it was through these connections that I was able to secure a position at Mirvac where I am currently a cadet.

It’s a very practical course, which is something that I absolutely love. It’s very hands on. We get to go out onto site for some of our assignments. So far, I’ve travelled to Cambodia to build a house, to Nepal to build a new farming product, and to China.”

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE? The BCII is all about building conceptual thinking and creative problem-solving skills based on global and transdisciplinary perspectives. When you add the BCII to your DAB degree, you’ll gain leading-edge capabilities that are highly valued in the globalised world, including dealing with critical and creative thinking, invention, complexity, innovation, future scenario building and entrepreneurship, and you’ll learn to think independently, as well as across and between other disciplines.

In the classroom, you’ll undertake real-world projects and self-initiated proposals with a focus on innovative, creative and entrepreneurial outcomes. Beyond it, you’ll engage with the needs of a wide range of government and industry partners — previously, our students have worked with companies like Visa, Accenture, Google, Food Innovation Partners, NSW Health, and City of Sydney, delivering solutions to a variety of future business challenges.

The BCII is a combined qualification, which means you’ll study it in conjunction with your DAB degree. Subjects are offered in an accelerated format — you’ll undertake most of your BCII work during July and Summer sessions, plus one additional year of full-time study once you’ve completed your design degree. As a graduate, you’ll possess high-level expertise in your chosen DAB discipline, plus unrivalled capacity for innovation and invention — everything you need to stand out from the crowd.

CAREERSWith a combined Design/BCII qualification, you’ll be ready for a variety of careers where creative thinking, ideas initiation, scenario planning, global strategy, open network design or sustainable futures innovation are valued.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE? The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies adds an international dimension to your degree. This course is a comprehensive, balanced program of study, designed to build your language and culture skills in a structured and supported sequence of study.

CAREERSYou will gain qualifications in a specialist language, intercultural and international awareness and cultural knowledge skills.

Future proof your degree

+ Add the diploma in innovationRather than building the skills for a specific career, the Diploma in Innovation is about preparing for the future of work. In fact, it responds directly to industry demand for graduates who can demonstrate inter- and transdisciplinary approaches in their professional practice. There’s an emphasis on entrepreneurial thinking, too: by the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to be an entrepreneur, serve entrepreneurial clients, or integrate entrepreneurial processes into your day-to-day work.

Add the diploma to your UTS bachelor’s degree, and what’s more, all your diploma subjects will be offered as winter and summer school intensives – so even though you’re adding an extra qualification, you’ll still graduate on time.
