AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE : To provide students knowledge in metrology and measuring instruments. To train practical skills for work with measuring instruments most widely used in the industry. COURSE STATUS IN THE CURRICULUM: A compulsory course for students from the specialty “Machine Building Engineering and Technologies” in the Faculty of Machine Technology, Bachelor Engineering degree.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: To provide students knowledge in metrology and measuring instruments. To train practical skills for work with measuring instruments most widely used in the industry.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: To give knowledge in metrology, analysis and estimation of the errors in measurement, metrological characteristics and application of measuring instruments. Principles of specification and standardization of measured objects’ parameters are discussed, as well as principles interchangeability and modern concepts in quality assurance. Students gain experience in use of measuring instruments and solving practical tasks during laboratory works. PREREQUISITES: Knowledge in mathematics, physics, mechanics, drawing, machine components, material science.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures are taught using transparencies, lantern-slides, and video. Students solve individual tasks during laboratory works, as well as individual course works.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: One test in the middle of the term and another one at the end of the term. The final mark is formed as follows: the marks of the tests – 60%, course work – 20%, labs – 20%.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course “Heat Treatment of Metals” is obtaining knowledge for phase and structure transformations, for properties and application of materials after different heat treatments and thermo-chemical treatments. DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: Themes giving fundamental knowledge about phase transformations during different heat- and thermo-chemical treatments. The structure, properties and application of metals and their alloys after different heat treatments and thermo-chemical treatments have been studied. PREREQUISITES: This course is built on fundamental knowledge in physics, chemistry and Materials Science and Engineering, parts 1 & 2. TEACHING METHODS: Lectures by using overhead foils, slides, other demonstration materials and on the black board. COURSE STATUS IN THE CURRICULUM: Compulsory course for the students specialty: “Machine-building technologies and Machinery” for a bachelor degree in the Faculty of Machine Technology.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: Upon completion of the course the students should have acquired the following: • knowledge on/about: the nature and prerequisites of automation in design; automation of projects and tasks; , functionality and theoretical background of CAD/CAM/CAE/CAPP systems, systems simulation, engineering calculations, automation in development and maintenance of engineering documentation, implementation of systems for automation in engineering activities. • skills: 2D and 3D geometrical modelling, to interpret and analyze the output data from a simulation model of a production system, to automatically generate NC programs, to build project plans based on PERT/CPM methodology, to design spreadsheets for facilitating calculations for mechanical engineering tasks, to use text processing and graphics in preparing documentation as well as e-Learning in acquiring knowledge and skills.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The students are introduced to the basic principles, methods and techniques in the automation of design activities in engineering. A focus is set on modern computer-based technologies such as 2D and 3D modelling, process planning for CNC technology, discrete event simulation, and other relevant technologies for the automation of engineering analysis, calculations, preparation of documentation and training.

PREREQUISITES: Informatics, applied geometry and engineering graphics, probability theory and statistics, Machine elements

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures are delivered using slides and PowerPoint presentations. A textbook in the subject field is available. The laboratory work is carried out on PC-s using e- Learning methodology. A manual for laboratory exercises is also available.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: The acquired knowledge during the laboratory work is assessed with a test. In the end of the sixth semester a written exam is conducted.

COURSE STATUS IN THE CURRICULUM: Compulsory for the students of the specialty Machine-building technologies and Machinery” of the Machine and Technology Faculty for educational and qualification degree “bachelor”.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of this course is to make the students familiar with one of the basic technologies of metal processing that constitute their spatiality – welding and allied processes.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The course deals with the theoretical foundation of welding processes (energy sources, heat transfer, metallurgy, microstructure of welded joint, and so on), technological possibilities and peculiarities of basic welding processes, behavior of materials, as well as mechanization and automation of the welding process.

PREREQUISITES: This course is built on fundamental knowledge in natural sciences as physics, chemistry and mathematics, as well as materials science and technology I and II.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures made clear by visual aids like overhead projector. Students prepare laboratorial exercises carried out according to a guide for conducting exercises and written records are presented. Teachers check these records. A roll of instructions for every exercise is created, containing aim and tasks of the concrete exercise, needed reference data, schemes, drawings etc. Using specialized machines, apparatuses and appliances, the students carry out investigations related to the corresponding exercise. Laboratorial exercises extend the knowledge, obtained in listening to the lectures.

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: Written exam in the form of test in the end of the 7 semester.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course is to teach the students the fundamentals of some essential and specific for the firm economical characteristics, phenomenon and processes and also the different ways and methods for analysis and assessment of the economical advisability of the technical, organisational and investment decisions.

DESIRIPTION OF THE COURSE: Thematically the course gives the basic knowledge in the following areas: enterprise – the fundamental economical unit in the national economy, defining the market and the business strategy of the firm; capital and investments of the enterprise; resources of the enterprise; manufacturing program and capacity of the enterprise, quality and competitive power of the products; economical ground for the investment decision; defining the production and realisation expenses; realisation of products; decision making of the price and profit of the enterprises; analysing the corporate finance; determining and calculating the economical results of the technical and organizational decisions.

PREREQUISITES: Basic knowledge in macroeconomics.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures (with slides, multimedia projector) and additional text materials; Seminars, that includes process and situation simulations, working on problems, taking part in role games and debates.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with these of metal forming technologies which are not discussed in the former courses and have large industrial applications.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The subjects of the course are technologies for metal forging, like cold forging, hot forging on hammers, hydraulic presses and etc.; sheet metal forming technologies. Also the design of machines for these operations is discussed.

PREREQUISITES: The knowledge of Material Science, Mathematic, Machine design and Theory of mechanisms are necessary.

TEACHING METHOD: Lectures with visual materials. Laboratory works in accordance with the educational program. The Lectures and laboratory works are cared out in the Plastic Deformation Laboratory of the Material Science Chair. The Laboratory is equipped with machines, heating devices and tools(dies) for deformation technologies. The students have possibility to acquaint with the technological processes closer to the real production conditions.

COURSE STATUS IN THE CURRICULUM: Elective for students of the specialty Machine Building Technology and Machinery of the Faculty of Machine Technology, BEng programme.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE:The main purpose of the course is to teach students to work out technological processes and preparing programs for manufacturing of piece with rotation and box-like form on CNC machines. The introduction of setup of machines tools with CNC gives a possibility to students to understand relation between program, technological references, references of the piece, CNC machine and tools.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The first part discusses the main stages of process planning for CNC machines tools. Programming and setup of CNC machines is based on the manufacturing tasks required to achieve precision and efficiency in production. Part two considers working principles, chouse and use of active control for main manufacturing operations.

PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of courses Machine-building Technology. Part I, Machines tools, Cutting tools.

TEACHING METHODS: :Lectures reading is aided by shraibproectors. On laboratory exercises the programs prepared by students are introduced in the CNC memory and then they make setup of machines tools and manufacture sample pieces. For the lather they use a special stend for a graphical simulation of tool patch.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course project is to improve, expand and systematize the student’s knowledge to Metals Processing using Plastic Deformation –design of technology and equipment for forging and sheet metal forming. During development of the project the students get accustomed for using of additional references, standards, normals etc., connected to manufacturing and design of technologies and technological equipment.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The subject of the project is development of technology and equipment for manufacturing of particular engineering part using forging and sheet metal forming processing. The project development is completed according to the appointed succession and is shaped into two parts – graphical and explanatory report.

PREREQUISITES: There is necessity of basics of “Material science and technology” – I and II part, and “Metals Processing using Plastic Deformation.”

TEACHING METHODS: Consultations.

COURSE STATUS IN THE CURRICULUM: Compulsory course for students specialty Machine Building Technology and Machinery of the Faculty of Machine Technology , Bachelor program

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: Aim of the course is to lead mechanical engineering students to understand the basic terminology, background, methods and technical devices for automation of miscellaneous technological operations.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course covers basic approaches toward the design, automation and machine-building of various discrete engineering processes. Major attention is paid to the design profiles, application areas and implementation cases of basic automation equipment kinds featuring different levels of automation.

PREREQUISITES: Required is sound knowledge on mechanical engineering automation and robotics in order to organize an up-to-date and high-performance industrial manufacturing process.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures are aided by visual means (multi-media applications, videotapes, simulation, animation etc.). Laboratory works are conducted in specialized facilities equipped with laboratory stands and in accordance with written Guidelines. Students write protocols about their experimental exercises, which are afterwards evaluated by the lecturer in charge.

INSTRUCTION LANGUAGE: Bulgarian

METHODS OF ASSESSMENT: The results from the laboratory works are taken into consideration. At term’s end a written examination must be passed by all students according to a unified testing and evaluation system based on point adjudging.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of the course is to give students knowledge of the rules and methods of dimensioning MHM, as well as applying this machinery as a structural element in logistic and technology systems of commodity production.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The main topics concern: Material Handling Machinery (MHM) – classification, concepts and definitions; Cranes (C) – working regimes, loads variety, computing combinations and verifications; C – building parts base, mechanisms, carrying structures, standard types; Manufacture Conveyers (MC) - classification, basic concepts and specifications; Conveyer types: band, chain, roller and vibration ones; exploitation, reliability and safety of MHM.

PREREQUISITES: Students should have basic knowledge of: Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Machine elements and Electro and Hydro Operating.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures including illustrative examples and slides and laboratory classes including course work with defense.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: Two written one our tests at the half and the end of semester (80%) and by laboratory classes and course work (20%).

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: Aim of the course “Special Methods of Heat Treatment and Thermo-chemical Treatment” is obtaining of more and deeper knowledge for technologies of heat treatment and thermo-chemical treatment of main machine building materials – steels, cast irons, copper and aluminium alloys. DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: In details and widely technologies of heat treatment and thermo-chemical treatment of rough specimens and articles, some specific methods of heat treatment – thermo-mechanical treatment, thermo-cyclical treatment, vacuum heat treatment, plasma heat treatment, electron-beam hardening, laser hardening etc are considered. AIMS AND OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE: The main objective of the course is mastering the wide range of the knowledge involving structural, kinematic, kinetostatic and dynamical synthesis of controlled dynamical systems. The problems of mechanic and control are considered complexly. Advanced methods for building of structures of mechanisms and machines, structure-metrical synthesis of mechanisms, kinetostatics and dynamics with rendering in account of real movable connections and machine aggregate control are exposed.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: Basic themes: Kinematic equivalence and functional approach for design of kinematic skeletons; structural synthesis and kinematic synthesis of kinematic chains; typo-metric synthesis of controlled function generating mechanisms; precise approximation synthesis of equilibrating and equalizing mechanisms; structural synthesis of path generating and guiding mechanisms; force modeling; reactions in spatial mechanisms; physical and mechanical parameters identification; realistic dynamical models of controlled machines; dynamical synthesis of mechanical systems by: 1. Given kinematic constrains; 1. Unidirectional force conditions.

PREREQUISITES: Mechanics, ТММ.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures are led at black board with chalk and by the help of visual materials. At the labs stands, computers and visualized materials are used. Corse work assignments are in many variants as the students obtain verbal hints and auxiliary materials.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: The achievement of the intended objective of the training of the teaching discipline is controlled by continuous assessment.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE: The aim of this course is to acquaint students with the basic aspects of welding equipment and the mechanization and automation of welding processes.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: The course deals with topics provide essential information about the work of welding power sources, means of mechanization, automation and robotics in welding processes. Are discussed in detail the processes in the arc and the formation of static characteristics of the power sources. The basic calculation and dimensioning of the various mechanisms for mechanization of welding processes - body-passing devices, welding tractors, handles and roller stands. Give removed and cinematic structures of pinching mechanisms used in welding with pneumatic and hydraulic actuators.

PREREQUISITES: The course is based on knowledge of electrical engineering, pneumatics and hydraulics, mechanics, machine elements and fundamentals of welding.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures and laboratory work. The lectures are presented to overhead foils, slides, other demonstration materials and on the black board. The exercises are held in computer classes.

METHOD OF ASSESSMENT: Written examination in the end of the semester.

This knowledge are based at advanced methods for investigation and building of structures of industrial robot mechanisms, structure-metrical synthesis of mechanisms for specialized robots, mechanics, control and adaptability of robotized systems.

DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE: At the basis of knowledge of previous disciplines and acquiring of new knowledge in the course of Mechanics of robotized systems methodological generalization of various mutually connected problems it is achieved. Application of knowledge for analysis and synthesis of driving, manipulating and controlling systems of industrial robots is achieved as well.

PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of mathematics, physics, mechanics, computer aided design systems in machine engineering, automation of machine engineering production, drive and control of production equipment.

TEACHING METHODS: Lectures are led by the help of visual materials, real devices, models, tables, and slides. Labs are held in wish by the help of scientific stands and computers practical problems from teaching themes are solved.
