Derek Boyle is the Founder & CEO of Empirical Synergies, Inc., owner, operator, and provider of BrandMatch Score. A graduate of St. Michael’s College in Burlington, VT, he has been a leading athlete and sports marketing executive for over a decade. As Director of Athlete Marketing for powerhouse agency Woolf Associates from 2001 through 2003, Boyle oversaw the development and execution of endorsement programs featuring athlete legends such as Bobby Orr, Robert Parish, Derek Sanderson and Adam Vinatieri. When Wolf Associates closed its doors, Boyle opened a new one. While on vacation in 2003 he got a call - the words “we’re closing our doors” will never escape him. Woolf Associates was his dream job but having had a small part of the company’s 40 year history affirmed his desire to build a career in sports. He just turned 24, but always knew he eventually wanted to start his own company. So he decided to call his client, NBA Hall of Famer Robert Parish. Boyle asked if he’d stick with him if he went on his own. Parish said yes and Sports Identity was born. In July of 2003, Boyle founded Sports Identity, Inc. on the premise of changing the way marketing professional athletes was done. He had rapid success in building a portfolio of clients including Vince Wilfork, Rosevelt Colvin, Tim Wakefield, and Dewayne Robertson to name a few. Working with high profile athletes presented opportunities to expand the company’s service offerings to corporate brands and non-profits. Through the creation of Synergistic Relationship Management, his visionary process of pairing and managing mutually beneficial partnerships and creating experience-driven marketing solutions, he has overseen the conceptualization, implementation, and management of millions of dollars in programs across all capacities. These include local to national endorsements, cause-marketing initiatives, athlete charitable foundation management, original signature events and national corporate events & promotions. Merging his vast experiences and areas of expertise, in 2008 Boyle partnered with his longtime client, former New England Patriots Linebacker, Rosevelt Colvin. They founded Ten5Nine LLC to develop and execute high end experiential getaways featuring pro athletes. The inaugural event - Gridiron Golf Getaway (G3) - was held on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. Boyle’s long-term vision was always to build a traditional sports marketing firm that would pave the way for the emergence of BrandMatch Score. A decade in the making, that vision became reality when he formed Empirical Synergies - a market research firm servicing the sports & entertainment industry. Putting his years of experience behind the software’s development, he made it his mission to disrupt an industry and force marketers to change the way they select and hire endorsers by empirically rating brand compatibility in real-time. Since 2002 and while presiding over Sports Identity, Boyle has used his expertise and practical applications to continuously develop BrandMatch Score. Realizing the deficiency in pairing brands with any athlete without thorough due diligence of mutual influences, and understanding the void of any current industry offerings, he created the customization in rating the value of alignments between brands and potential endorsers. Through countless hours of research on pertinent industry scholars and market data, he constructed algorithms and weighting of key factors including career performance statistics, consumer insight into attribute alignment through targeted surveys, and current landscape information such as social media, league & team standing as well as position prominence. Having pitched and secured numerous investors, Boyle partnered with Stature Software to transform hundreds of pages of spreadsheets into an online, fully automated and interactive platform for corporate clients.
