FOR PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2019

Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen last week was selected as one of two contributor nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019. Gil Brandt joins Bowlen as the other contributor nominee for the Class of 2019.

In his 35th year as owner of the Broncos, Bowlen will be voted on for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame when the Selection Committee meets in Atlanta on Saturday, Feb. 2, the eve of Super Bowl LIII. PAT BOWLEN’S NFL SUPERLATIVES

* - In 1993, Mr. Bowlen gave an ultimatum to the TV networks that procured a bidding war, bringing FOX (NFC) and NBC (AFC) on as league broadcast partners and nearly doubling the tele-vision revenue from those streams.

* - Also in 1993, Mr. Bowlen fought to establish the introduction of the “franchise tag” in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, helping teams secure the rights to their key players.

* - In his role as Chair of the NFL Broadcast Committee, Mr Bowlen led the negotiations of the NFL’s $18 billion TV contract in 1998, the most lucrative single-sport contract in history.

* - Through his work on the NFL Broadcasting Committee and the NFL Network Committee, Pat Bowlen played an important role in the forma-tion of NFL Network in 2003 and worked to increase its distribution among cable pro-viders and its overall growth.

* - According to former NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol, Pat Bowlen was “the single major force in the creation of Sunday Night Football in 2006 while leading the NFL Broadcasting Committee.

* - In his position as co-chair of the NFL Management Council Executive Committee, Mr. Bowlen played a key role in the six-year extension of the Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2006 and again was part of the new CBA discussions for the 10-year extension in 2011 that ensured labor peace for the next decade.

KEENUM GETTING A FRESH START

The Broncos signed quarterback Case Keenum as an unrestricted free agent on March 14.

The sixth-year signal-caller spent the 2017 season with Minnesota, leading the Vikings to a 12-4 overall record, an NFC North Division title and an NFC Championship Game berth.

KING BRINGS BIG LEG TO ALTITUDE

The Broncos signed punter Marquette King from their division-rival Raiders on April 5.

King, a 2016 Associated Press All-Pro Second Team selection, is the only punter in NFL history to record at least a 40-yard net average in each of his first five seasons.
