1 Product Overview The Dell KACE K1000 Systems Management Appliance provides comprehensive management of PCs,

servers, Macs, Chromebooks, smart phones, tablets, printers, networking gear, and other network-

connected non-computing devices. The KACE K1000 is easy to use and its appliance-based architecture

enables rapid deployment -- typically in a few days. It also delivers a comprehensive set of features to

fulfill your systems management needs – from initial computer deployment to ongoing management,

security and support, regardless of your organization’s size.

1.1 Lab Preparation Considerations and Caveats

It is in your best interests to ensure the demo environment you will be demonstrating is clean & tidy

before you begin. For this reason we would recommend, where possible, you log in to your demo at least

15 minutes prior to delivery and check the following;

1. Familiarize yourself with the environment during this time and check any specific features you

are expecting to demo.

2. Most importantly, be crystal clear with yourself on what it is you plan to show. A full demo of

every feature described below (with questions) can take several hours. If you only have a short

time slot be sure to focus on the key points that address the customer’s pain points and will

drive value home to them.

3. Ensure that you have scheduled the demo for sufficient time so as not to have the demo end

before you are finished with the customer.

3.1 KACE 1000: Agent Provisioning The Dell KACE K1000 Systems Management Appliance manages computers via the K1000 Agent.

The Agent software must be installed on the computers in your environment that you wish to

manage. This software allows the K1000 appliance to collect inventory data and carry out tasks

like installing and removing software, applying patches, and running scripts.

You will deploy the Agent software to a single machine. You can use Single Machine

Provisioning one or more times to deploy the software to your test machines.

Single Machine Provisioning

This exercise walks you through the process of installing the agent software to a single machine from the K1000 Management Center.

Go to the Settings > Provisioning > Single Agent Provisioning

Enter data into the following fields:

Target IP: the IP address of the machine you would like to provision (use

172.20.0.7) Action and Platform should already be set to Install Agent and

Windows

Domain: the domain that you login to, such as KACE \admin. (Leave this blank)

4 System Patching K1000 Patching helps you to keep machines in your network more secure, by allowing you to detect

needed patches and apply authorized patches that have been detected as needed. You have the

ability to create differing patch schedules for different sets of machines. By doing so, you can choose

which patches to look for and/or apply and set the actual calendar for work to happen differently on

each schedule, if desired.

Now that you have 1 new managed client on your K1000 appliance, we will show you how to run a

patch schedule, you will be able to specify a set of machines to target, by picking a label assigned

to a group of machines. Start Patch Detection

Go to the Security > Patch Management > Schedules

Create a new schedule as shown below.

Page 12: Demo KACE K1000 System Management Appliance€¦ · 3 Getting Started with KACE K1000 System Management Appliance 1. Start by clicking on the DELL START HERE!! Desktop icon (located
