If SHaRON was a building?..

• There is only one key to open the building.

• There are rooms within the building, all locked.

• Rooms are full of service users, ex service users, clinicians,

volunteers.

• Each room has a different key, service users cannot move rooms.

• Every one else (moderators both clinical and peer/volunteers) in the rooms can.

Page 4: Delivering a digitally enhanced service - Workshop

• SHaRON is a safe and secure social network.

• Moderated by experienced clinicians and ex-service users (Peer

Moderators)

• Therapeutic support and advice, but NOT a crisis service

• Features;

• Service User created profile pages

• Upload images

• Instant messaging

• Chat rooms

• Forums

• Blogs

• Access from all devices

• Opportunity to provide some teaching sessions

• Access to the right information from trusted sources

• Support from others who have been through the same or

similar experiences

Unexpected Benefits of SHaRON Development

• A significant number of ex service user / Peer Moderators expanding

staff numbers.

• The service now operates 24/7 everyday at very little extra cost

• A much greater exposure to patients normal life than previously available

• SHaRON BEDS has a return to service referral rate in single figures

compared to national averages of between 30% - 40%

clare's and sharon's) help. and i know that i'm not better, but i can see that one

seen that. so thank you

- I truely believe in SHaRON and can honestly say that I will always be thankful of

all the help, support and advise that I have received, it is so much more than a

website its a life line and this leads me to my latest Challenge...........

90% of users answered ‘strongly agree’ or ‘agree’, when asked if they found

their ‘experience on SHaRON to be helpful’

Why a Social Network?

WARWICK MEDICAL SCHOOL RESEARCH PROJECT FUNDED BY

COMIC RELIEF - OCTOBER 2010

“Young people are leading increasingly digital lives”

“At the same time, while young people welcome technology-

based services, they report wanting these to be a

complimentary provision rather than a replacement for face-to-

face approaches”

“Social networking is a rapidly evolving area with very high

uptake among young people”

Young SHaRON

- Moderators will include; past users, parents, voluntary sector

- Clinicians can watch and moderate named clients/families

- Moderators are not a separate workforce/resource

- There are flags for certain words

- Subnets can ‘go to sleep’

Subnet to be Implemented:

- Parents/Carers Subnet (starting with ASD Pathway)

- Maternal Wellbeing & Partners/Carers (Perinatal MH)

- Consult Me Subnet

- Age-Range Specific Subnets

Young SHaRON; Perinatal Mental Health

• Referrals can be from any health care professional

• Do not need to be open to mental health services to be referred

and won’t be opened to services as a result of SHaRON referral

• Across the whole range of perinatal distress; Few exclusion

criteria (must not be suicidal, homicidal, infanticidal or psychotic)

• It is not a CRISIS service

• It enables us to pick up deterioration by emoji.

• It enables the women to say how they feel without fear of

exposing themselves and their vulnerability

• It is safe and governanced through moderation - we know women

access Facebook groups and use Dr Google rather than be able to

get advice from experienced clinicians and support from mums who

understand

I would like to say what a wonderful support

SHaRON has been for me whilst I recover from

depression. The relative anonymity it provides

has allowed me to express how I’m feeling

without having to hide and pretend everything is

‘fine’. I have received support from the

Moderators when I’ve felt at my lowest and even

had phone calls from my health visitor in

response to some of my comments. The site has

also allowed me to support other Mums who are

having difficult times and hopefully they have

found the comments from one Mum to another

reassuring. I cannot thank the Perinatal team and

SHaRON enough for this amazing online facility

which I know is contributing to my recovery.

Would it be possible

to have more emojis

as I personally, find

them a really easy

way to express how

I'm feeling without

having to think of the

words.

I like the anonymity that

SHaRON provides and find it

useful to be able to write how

I'm honestly feeling without

having to pretend that things

are fine when actually they are

not. It's a good supportive site.
