TRANSCRIPT
Many of you have known
me for years. I grew up in
the Delisle area and went
to high school here. I come
from a large family of three
girls and three boys. I
knew early in life that I
wanted to be a teacher and
work with children. My
role as a teacher is exciting
and fulfilling. I love my job!
I believe in working
collaboratively with
parents and the students in
creating a strong, caring
community within our
classroom.
I graduated
from the U of
S in 1988 and
spent several
years
substitute
teaching
before I was
hired
permanently. I am
currently taking classes to
obtain my post graduate
degree in special
education. I find the
classes challenging but full
of useful information that I
can use in my classroom.
I have been married
to “Fire Chief Al” for
many years.
Together we have
four grown sons and
three wonderful
grandchildren. In my
free time I like to go
to movies,
scrapbook, travel, garden
and spend time with my
family and friends. Recently
I have started doing
ceramics. Yup, I’ve already
broken a piece! I look
forward to many more
years of teaching and
learning!

Our School Community Council has 2 positions open for members for two-year terms beginning fall, 2012. We have 2 members who will be remaining for their second year for 2012/13. On Monday, April 2nd our school is participating in the Lifetouch School Fundraising Spring Photography Program.
Our school will receive one dollar for every student photographed in this program (no purchase required).
Spring Pictures are full body shots with a different themed background each year.
Lifetouch Canada is also supplying a new child identification service called “Pictures 2 Protect”. This program uses the
student’s Lifetouch photograph as a search tool for police or media if a child is lost or missing. (Not actual size)
Once a student is photographed on the Lifetouch Canada Spring Photography Program, the company will produce two
“Pictures 2 Protect” identification cards.
These wallet-sized cards will feature a
section where a parent or guardian can fill
in basic statistical information about
their child. Picture Packages will also be
available to order.
Kindergarten students not attending that
day, may be brought in at 9:00 a.m. for a
picture if you like.

On Monday, March 26th, Mr. Reis’s class and Mr. Nor-
mand’s class attended a curling tournament. The
tournament was 2 hours long and was lots of fun. Thank-
you to all of the volunteers that showed us all of the rules
of curling from previous sessions. You were a lot of help!
Each team had the name of a Canadian Province and
dressed up in unique costumes, colours or sports clothing.
There were some pretty awesome costumes! Curling was
fun and we hope to do it again soon!!

We were thrilled to have
Alexi Orchard present her research
and enthusiasm for the work of Craig
Kielburger “Free the Children” organi-
zation on Thurs. March 22nd at 10:45
in the library. She presented to gr.
5, 5/6 and 6 students about her in-
terest in volunteerism. She attended
Craig way back in gr. 4 and I’m happy
to hear her share about her reflec-
tions on his work. Her work was part
of Mrs. Landry’s class theme on social
justice. Their work included the
fundraising and gather of “Uno”.
How great to be helping students of
all ages develop global citizenship.
Further to this, several students,
staff and parents attended CRAIG
KIELBURGER’s presentation at TCU
on Sunday, March 25th. He shared his
passion for compassion, courage and
community with the audience. Parents
can check out the links to his work on
our school website. As well, he has
two new books for parents worth con-
sidering. Together, we can make a
difference. Our students are our
greatest hope for the future and we
strongly believe in their abilities to
make our world a better place.
Thanks to parents for supporting this
opportunity by bringing their children
to TCU to meet us.

Special Guest from the CNIB
Today Jerry and his seeing-
eye dog came to our classroom. He taught us about being
blind. We learned that the seeing-eye dog has to be the
right size to do the job. Also they start training at six
weeks old and Bonnie is taught to be friendly. They are
smart and intelligent. I even learned that blind people can
play golf like Jerry can. I think that blind people are not
as different than people that can see. Fun fact, Bonnie the
seeing-eye dog is a Labradoodle and she is part Lab, part
Poodle. Jerry and his see-eye dog are the best! I enjoyed
Jerry and Bonnie because they are the coolest. Thank you
guys so much for coming! Avery
Jerry and his seeing-eye dog came to see (hear) us.
Jerry is so special because Jerry is blind. Jerry likes
many things. For example, Jerry likes warm coffee, golf
and his seeing-eye dog Bonnie. Bonnie is a Labradoodle.
I learned that Jerry became blind from diabetes.
Another thing I learned is that Jerry can only see black.
That is sad. I learned that he had three dogs. Ozzey a
yellow lab, Faith a black lab and Bonnie, a yellow
Labradoodle. Jerry can listen to movies. There are some
special movies that describe the pictures. I really
enjoyed Jerry and his see-eye dog. Life must be hard
being a blind person. Thank you. Eryn
On March 13, 2012, Gerry came from the CNIB to talk to us about his life as a blind
person. He talked to the classes about his guide dog named Bonnie. Bonnie is very
friendly and soft. Gerry was born in North Battleford and now he lives in Saskatoon.
He plays golf all over the world. Gerry had two guide dogs before. Their names were
Ozzie and Faith but now he has Bonnie. Gerry takes Bonnie for a walk in the morning,
at lunch, at supper and before bed. At 6 weeks the dogs have to start training to be a
guide dog. The dogs must learn to not be distracted by other people when they are on
duty. Plus they have to learn to walk in a straight line until they get to a curve or
street. They also learn to disobey their leader if they have to. Gerry was fun to listen
to and answer our questions. By Hannah & Taija
