The Executive Steering Committee is pleased to share the Delaware ACE Women’s NetworkBiennial Report 2010-2012. Formed in 2001 as

the Delaware Network of the American Council onEducation (ACE) Office of Women in Higher Education(OWHE), the network was renamed the Delaware ACEWomen’s Network (DAWN) in 2012. The change wasnecessary due to restructuring at the national ACEorganization where OWHE became the InclusiveExcellence Group. Specifically, the national office isreferred to as the ACE Women’s Network. Our chapter, therefore, became Delaware ACE Women’s Network orDAWN. We currently are working on rebranding ourlogo as is on the cover (as specified by the nationalorganization), website, and materials. While our namehas changed, our overall mission—to identify networking opportun ities for and promote women atall levels of higher education—remains the same.

Our organization continues to grow, but we haveyet to meet our goal of 200 individual members.Considering the number of women in higher educationin Delaware, we feel confident that we will reach ourgoal. Recently, we came close with 187 members. Also, seven institutions continue to be members of DAWN,and Dr. Jack P. Varsalona, President of WilmingtonUniversity, remains our Presidential Sponsor. He hasheld the position since 2006.

Many of you continue to ask if you can renewand/or join online. We are working hard to make thathappen. Our Communications Sub-Committee hasbeen planning better outreach to current and prospective members. Once this is complete, we hopeto offer online membership and renewal as well asregistration for events. All of us are busy, so we wantto make your participation as easy as possible. This isvery exciting, so stay tuned.

Several years ago we began hosting a Brown BagLunch Professional Development series. The first yearwe offered two workshops. Since then, we haveincreased the offerings to four to five per year andbegan offering several breakfast events, as well.Workshop topics have included human resources,

In keeping with the mission of the national organization, DAWN connects women inhigher education and provides support to

further their professional development andadvancement. DAWN is committed to demonstrating ACE Women’s Network IDEALSCore Principles, which include:

financial planning, managing stress, managingchange, and conflict resolution. Please let usknow if you have ideas fortopics or speakers. Wewant our workshops toreflect your needs andinterests!

Your Executive Board has been working to updateour bylaws, which will be sent to you for your reviewand approval. Also, the Strategic Planning Sub-Committee is working on a survey to help us identifywhat our members want and need. Please considerhow the organization might provide events and services that better support you, your career, and yourprofessional development. Finally, we are in the infancy stage in planning a Statewide LeadershipConference for Delaware Women in Higher Educationto be held in spring 2014. If you are interested in serving on a sub-committee to plan the day-longevent, please contact us. We welcome your input.

As our organization matures, there are more itemson our “to-do list.” I’ve mentioned some of the itemsabove, but there is so much more. Knowing how verybusy you and your fellow members are, we want to beresponsive to your needs. To do that—and make thisorganization all it can be—we need your help! We arelooking for members who are willing to serve on sub-committees and help plan networking events.Teamwork is the way we make it happen, the way wetake DAWN to the next level. We need you! VinceLombardi once said, “Individual commitment to agroup effort—that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”Please consider what you can do within our organization.Thank you all for your support, and I hope to see youat an event soon!
