DELAVAN-DARIEN SCHOOL DISTRICT’S VOTE: Feb. 17, 2015 Continuing programs. Retaining staff. Improving Educational outcomes. The Delavan-Darien School District $1.25 million, 2-year non-recurring referendum asks voters to approve funding that will maintain the quality educational pro- grams currently offered to students and the staffing levels necessary to teach them. The district currently has the lowest rev- enue limit (funding from state and local tax sources) of any K-12 school district in Walworth County. Yet, the district also has arguably the highest student needs (see chart below). The district has introduced new and bet- ter programs to improve its outcomes for students. It is up to the voters to decide if the district should continue such pro- grams or make cuts that will likely have a negative impact on student experiences. Some possibilities include: Eliminating approximately 10 teachers district-wide, reduc- ing the DDHS schedule to a 7-period day, reducing elective courses and program offerings, reducing career options and public relations efforts, and, as a last resort, closing Wileman or Darien Elementary School. The Delavan-Darien School District $1.25 million, 2-year non-recurring referendum asks voters to approve funding that will maintain the quality educational pro-grams currently offered to students and the staffing levels necessary to teach them.

The district currently has the lowest rev-enue limit (funding from state and local tax sources) of any K-12 school district in Walworth County. Yet, the district also has

arguably the highest student needs (see chart below).

The district has introduced new and bet-ter programs to improve its outcomes for

El Referendum no recurrente del Distrito Escolar Delavan-Darien de $1,250,000 dólares de 2 años pide a los votantes aprobar la financiación que mantendrá los programas educativos de calidad que se ofrecen actualmente a los estudiantes y los niveles necesarios de personal para poder enseñarles.

El distrito actualmente tiene el límite más bajo de ingresos (fondos de fuentes de impuestos estatales y locales) que cu-alquier distrito escolar K-12 en el Conda-do de Walworth. Sin embargo, el distrito

posiblemente también tiene los estudi-antes con las más altas necesidades (vé-ase la gráfica).

El distrito ha introducido nuevos y mejo-res programas para mejorar sus resulta-

dos para los estudiantes. Corresponde a los votantes decidir si el distrito debe continuar con esos programas o hacer recortes que probablemente tendrán un impacto negativo sobre las experiencias de los estudiantes.

Cortes consideradosAdemás de hacer más de $ 1.5 millones en recortes antes del inicio de este año escolar, el dis-trito tendrá que hacer un más de $1 millón en reducciones si el referéndum no es aprobado. Algunas posibilidades incluyen: La eliminación de aproximada-mente 10 maestros de todo el distrito, lo que reduce el horario de la escuela preparatoria DDHS a un día de 7 períodos, lo que

reduce los cursos electivos y programas ofrecidos, y reduce las opciones de carrera y los es-fuerzos de relaciones públicas, y, como último recurso, el cierre de la Escuela Primaria Wileman o de la Escuela Primaria Darien.

¿Quieren menor número de op-ciones, que empeore la propor-ción de estudiantes por maestro, o que posiblemente se cierre por completo una escuela? ¿Qué hará esto al futuro de nuestro distrito?
