A school is not just a building with four walls. It is the cradle where the future society is nurtured. Schools have
changed dramatically since the gurukul days. Mastering the three Rs is only a means to the end, an end which
produces citizens with a sound mind in a sound body. So it is of vital importance that educationists take utmost care of
the kind of inputs that are given to the students. With this view in mind, the cadets of Rashtriya Military School
Bangalore are singularly blessed to avail the multitude of opportunities that are made available to them in and
outside school. And they HAVE made best use of the exposure in various fields that have
come their way. It is no secret that our cadets are a formidable force to reckon with. Schools
in the city cannot afford to be complacent about us, be it our sporting teams, our quiz
quartets or debating duos. These experiences have helped develop the cadets’ interests
and build self-esteem. This in turn has reaped dividends in the
academic sphere as is evident from the phenomenal results that the
Class XII Board Examination has produced. The school is a thriving
hub of activities as readers will realize as they flip through this
carefully catalogued calendar of activities.
‘You have to dream before your dreams can come true’
- APJ Abdul Kalam
History abounds with tales of experts who were
convinced that the ideas, plans, and projects of others
could never be achieved. However, accomplishment
came to those who said, "I can make it happen."
The Italian sculptor Agostino d'Antonio worked diligently
on a large piece of marble. Unable to produce his desired
masterpiece, he lamented, "I can do nothing with it."
Other sculptors also worked this difficult piece of marble,
but to no avail. Michelangelo discovered the stone and
visualized the possibilities in it. His "I-can-make-it-
happen" attitude resulted in one of the world's
masterpieces – David! Orville and Wilbur Wright were
scoffed at by journalists, friends, armed forces
specialists, and even their father at the idea of an
airplane. "Leave flying to the birds,” they jeered. But the
Wright brothers responded. "We have a dream, and we
can make it happen." As a result, a place called Kitty
Hawk, North Carolina, became the setting for the
launching of their "ridiculous" idea.

and curriculum which merely program students, training
them to respond to induced stimuli in predetermined
ways rather than a way to facilitate discovery, growth and
self realization. In our quest to churn out useful citizens
we should not fall into the trap of making trained lab rats
who will give us the answers that we are looking for. As
educationists we must not lose sight of the corner stones
of success, viz, motivating our wards to set goals,
encouraging them to dream and nurturing the creative
spirit, among others. Creative thinking, free exploration,
unchartered discovery should be the core of our
teaching techniques. Over-coming self-limiting beliefs
and self-imposed limitations is often the biggest obstacle
standing between a person and the realization of his/ her
full potential.

NDA and Board Exam Results:
Out of the 44 cadets who appeared for the 134th UPSC NDA
exam, as many as 21 cleared the written test, while 10
made it through the SSB. One cadet of the previous batch
also came through making it a respectable total of 11
cadets who joined the 134th NDA course. Cadet Ravindra
Reddy stood out of the crowd by securing the 8th position
out of the 453 shortlisted candidates. Well done, cadets!
The Class of 2015, or the Mavericks, as they were fondly
referred to, have endeared themselves to one and all with
their outstanding performance in the class XII CBSE board
examinations. Not only did they secure cent per cent
results in the exams, but there were as many as 7 cadets out
of 44, who secured more than 90%. The school captain,
cadet Sumit Yadav, led by example by standing first in the
school merit list with 95.6%. While the results in all the
subjects were good, the performance in English and IT was
astounding. This could only be possible with the timely
guidance and support from the Principal, dedicated service
by the teaching fraternity and total focus and hard work on
the part of the cadets.

The Annual Technical Inspection was carried out on 8th and
9th July 2015 by Maj Gen G K Chopra, VSM, Addl DG MT [AE]
and Col Comdt AEC. The proceedings took off with a digital
morning assembly in honour of the visiting officer during
which he released the current issue of the newsletter,
Deepak. The chief guest delivered a motivational talk to the
cadets impressing upon them that being the future leaders
of the country they were never to lose sight of their passion
and vision. Later in his address to the teaching staff he
emphasized the role of the teacher in transforming the
society for the better. He encouraged them to be more
proactive in their endeavours.
What followed next was a
comprehensive visit-cum-
tour of the school. With
meticulous care the officer
inspected each and every
department, such as,
classrooms, laboratories,
mess, hostels, recreation
room, the newly allotted
Group C accommodation and so on. He inaugurated the
spanking new synthetic tennis court and a cricket bowling
machine. Lunch with the cadets in the mess allowed him
time to interact with students with immense patience.
The evening was spent on a more relaxed note by way of the
cultural show presented by the cadets. A short and sweet
medley of a Hindi group song, an English play and a western
dance number allowed everyone to unwind after a hectic
two days. The Staff Club dinner with a jazz band in the
background afforded the officer an opportunity to interact
with the staff members and their families.

playing in the rain and that’s exactly what the intermittent

victorious. Cadet Nirbhay of class IX with four goals in three

witness the latent strength, ability, creativity and aesthetics
of the players as they operated both at the net and attacked
from the back of the court. In the nail biting finals, Nehru
House wrested the trophy from Shastri House who had held
on to it for quite a while. Cadet Raja Babu of class VIII was

The morning assembly of 5th May 2015 was indeed a
prestigious occasion. It was the Investiture Ceremony of the
new prefects and office bearers for the year 2015-2016.
The red letter day was marked by the arrival of the Chief
Guest, Brig MN Devaya, Comdt, MEG & Centre, Bangalore,
who also happens to be an old boy of the Military School.
The proceedings started with a welcome address by cadet
Arul Kanhere, who briefed the gathering about the
credentials and achievements of the gentleman officer.
Thereafter, cadet Vimalesh guided the proceedings. The
school band put up a splendid display of some patriotic and
popular tunes, conducted eminently by cadet Karthik
Chahar.
The school captain, cadet Satyam
Mishra of class XII B was pipped by
the chief guest Brig MN Devaya,
and the Principal, Lt Col Bhupender
Kumar. The CCA captain cadet Arul
Kanhere, was pipped by the Adm.
Officer, Major P Davidson. The rest
of the prefects were pipped by the
senior staff members. The chief guest administered the
oath to the office
bearers. The newly

captain, cadet Satyam

behalf of his team of
prefects, thanking the
school authorities for bestowing the honour and reposing
faith in them. He assured the school that he and his team
would leave no stone unturned to keep the flag flying high
and become worthy leaders of tomorrow.
The Chief Guest addressed the cadets and reminisced
about his days in Bangalore before he joined the NDA. He
also expressed his appreciation for having had the
opportunity to gain valuable training in the school before
he joined the NDA. The cadets were privileged to listen to
an inspiring talk on leadership. Through an endearing tale
the officer highlighted the need to know one’s strength,
have consistency and team work to be a good leader. As a
token of appreciation he was presented with a painting
done by one of the many talented cadets of the school.
Talents’ Night:
With the objective of making
them feel welcome and at
home, a Talents’ Night was
organized in the school
auditorium on 4th Aug. 2015.
Freshers though they may be, the talent that was on display
was impressive to say the least. Aptly themed ‘Chanceux’ or
fortunate and lucky, the program began with an invocation,
‘Thank you Lord’. The evening displayed some wonderful
histrionic talent through the Hindi and English plays. The
young movers and shakers had the audience enthralled
with their foot tapping dance numbers, much to the
appreciation of one and all. No doubt the cadets of Military
Schools are singularly fortunate to avail a myriad
opportunities to participate on stage and garner unlimited
exposure in a variety of
disciplines; but it was obvious
that with the vast amount of
talent they will have to vie and
try harder to be on top of their
game.
Novices’ Boxing:
After their wonderful
performance in the Cross
Country Race immediately
after their arrival, the
freshers have quick ly
realized that they need to
have the killer instinct to survive in the jungle out
there. With this in view the enthusiasm in which all the
74 cadets enrolled for the Novices’ Boxing on 5th Aug.
2015, was heartening. There were as many as 40 bouts
during which their agility, nimble foot work and
endurance left no doubt in the minds of the spectators
that these guys sure were gluttons for punishment.
The Principal awarded
prizes to ten of the best
boxers, although each
and every one of them
could be declared a
w i n n e r f o r s h e e r
participation.

It’s the end of March… and a huge sigh of relief from every single cadet. With the final exams over it’s the end of an ordeal. Excitement is in the air. It’s that time of the year which each and every cadet looks forward to. It’s the time for outstation trips or Motivational Tours as they actually are. As always places are selected to yield maximum benefit and exposure for the cadets without compromising on the fun aspect.
NDA and Mumbai:
The senior cadets of class XI had their ‘pilgrimage’ to NDA. This trip has never failed to motivate and inspire the cadets to make it their next destination after school. As always they were taken on a guided tour of the academy, got a feel of the military ambience and were treated with deference by several ex-Georgians. They visited the popular Amanora City mall before leaving Pune. A short trip to Mumbai on the way back gave them time to see the famous Elephanta Caves and left them wanting more.
IMA Dehradun:
The cadets of class X made the best of their opportunity to soak in the atmosphere of the Indian Military Academy, in the sylvan surroundings of Dehradun. Escorted by Dr Rajesh Sharma and Mr Praveen Pandey, the cadets enjoyed the hospitality and ambience of the sprawling campus of the RIMC. The cadets were impressed by the quality training facilities and infrastructure. Visits to the LBSNAA, Mussoorie, and temples nestled in the mountains left a lasting impact on the cadets. On the way back the cadets enjoyed the cool, chi l ly weather of Nainital, Bhimtal, Golu Temple and a host of other tourist destinations. During their return Delhi was inevitable so the cadets made the most of the trip by taking in the Red Fort, Akshardham, India Gate, Qutub Minar, Rashtrapati Bhawan and soon.
OTA Chennai:The cadets of class IX escorted by Ms Saritha Sharma, Mr. R Suresh, and Mr. B D Sharma visited the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai. On arrival the cadets were welcomed at the Chanakya Auditorium where they watched a movie showing the making of officers in the OTA, which turned out to be a truly inspiring and motivational exercise. The cadets were escorted around the premises by the drill instructor where they tried their hand at muscle building, chin-ups and other challenging physical exercises. The cadets had some fun filled moments when they had a go at the obstacle exercises such as the china wall and intricate jumps to name a few. The whole atmosphere filled the cadets with a sense of inspiration. As in every other Army establishment, the cadets were greeted by ex-Georgians who always make our young cadets feel welcome; in this case it was Major Bhist from Chail. The next destination was the world heritage site, Mahabalipuram, the temple town with beautiful beaches, where the cadets enjoyed splashing around in the sea. The last leg of the trip was to the French town of Pondicherry. A visit to Aurobindo Ashram brought about a quiet, reflective mood among the cadets. Finally in Vellore it was once again an opportunity to see some exquisitely carved temples before heading back to school.
Air Force Academy Hyderabad:The cadets of class VIII visited the AFA, escorted by Mr J Johnson Sekhar and Mrs P K Salini. The route was such that the cadets got to enjoy themselves visiting places of tourist interest first before reaching the AFA. After refreshing themselves at the EME Centre, they headed out to visit the famous Ramoji Film City which consumed the entire day. The following day was hectic with visits to the Birla Mandir, Lumbini Park, boat rides in the Hussein Sagar Lake, Golconda Fort and the NTR Park. The cadets had the maximum fun at the Jalvihar Water Park. Before long it was time to get serious. On reaching the Air Force Academy the cadets were received warmly by the officers there. A guided tour of the place gave them an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the glorious history of the Indian Air Force. Among the many things that the cadets learned were the mechanics of air traffic control, communication between pilots, parts of an aircraft and controls in the cockpit. The whole experience renewed the cadets’ aspirations especially the air force enthusiasts.
MRC Wellington:
Accompanied by Mr A Ananda and Ms Savita Kaushik, the cadets of class VI were very excited to visit the oldest Regimental Centre of the Indian Army which has existed since 1758. They were given a warm welcome right at the entrance itself and shown around the very informative and impressive museum which was classified under the Pre-Independence and Post-Independence period, as well as various types of Weaponry. A number of Georgian officers made the cadets feel special, inspired them and looked after their comfort very well. On the way back they had a good dose of culture and heritage as they got to visit the ancient Srikanteshwara Temple, the historical city of Nanjangud, associated with Tipu Sultan and many other points of interest. The young cadets thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Ooty, especially the famous Botanical Gardens, the rolling tea gardens, Pykara Lake, the Rose Gardens and the exhilarating ride on the heritage train from Coonoor to Ooty. Passing through the Bandipur forests gave them a
rare chance to see a n i m a l s i n t h e wilderness. Mysore and the adjoining city of Sr i rangapatna gave them a glimpse of the royal city and the famed Ranganatha Temple.
INA Ezhimala:
Any opportunity to visit God’s own Country is not to be missed. So the ca d et s o f c l a s s V I I , e s c o r t e d b y M r s S Gayathri, Mr A M Khapre and Mr Mohinder Kumar were thrilled to visit the Indian Naval Academy, situated in the hills of Ezhimala, in Kannur district, Kerala. Two buses were at the ready waiting to transport the weary travellers, a welcome gesture much appreciated by one and all. A glimpse of the beautiful view, state-of-the-art infrastructure and training facilities served to immediately perk up the cadets. After a sumptuous lunch, the cadets were seated in a theatre where they watched an informative documentary on the workings of the INA. The cadets visited the Cat’s Paw, simulators such as OOW, ROR and Drona. This, together with a Q and A session in the training arena, proved to be highly educative and motivational for our young cadets. It was a rare opportunity to visit the Bekal Fort, a unique tourist attraction on account of its strategic location and height. Other highlights included cultural trips to Payyanur to see the Anjaneya Temple and Etticulum beach. On the final day the cadets witnessed the cross country race for the novices of the INA. It was then time to head back but not before creating a splash at the Vismaya Water Park.

Inauguration of New Accommodation for Administrative
Staff: Living in a sprawling campus with plenty of greenery
is everyone’s dream. But when it comes with a modern

of Administration of RMS Bangalore, who also happens to
be an alumnus of the school, inaugurated the apartment
complex of twenty flats. It was a happy day for the entitled

long wait.
‘Know Your Army’ Mela at MEG & Centre:
Exposure to any and all
facets of the army is always
welcome to our young
cadets in order to create an
awareness and motivate
them towards their goal. So
a visit to the ‘Know your
Army’ Mela at the MEG &
Centre was a welcome diversion to the youngsters who
visited MEG & Centre, Bangalore, on 13th and 14th Aug
2015. With wide-eyed curiosity the cadets witnessed from
close range some state-of-the-art weaponry such as tanks,

gave the school many
a reason to be proud.
Understandably it
was with a heavy
heart that the school
had to bid farewell to
them after their

was organized in their honour. It was an emotional occasion
as the senior most cadets reminisced over their seven long
