REDDAM EARLY LEARNING SCHOOL | WOOLLAHRA NEWSLETTER 1 Dee’s Message Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome back to the final term of 2017. It is hard to believe that another year has almost passed by. The good news is that there is much planned for the children in the ELS for these last few months, which should keep them captivated and enthralled as they learn more about our fascinating world. I trust that all our families enjoyed a restful break over the past couple of weeks. It was tremendous to see the enthusiasm with which the children returned to school this week. No doubt they missed their teachers and friends! For those children who attended the Holiday Care programme during the break, an assortment of fun-filled activities awaited them. The anticipation of what would happen each day was palpable, as they explored, were introduced to all sorts of new experiences, and got their creative juices flowing. The Spring weather, although sometimes changeable, provided the perfect backdrop for the Holiday Care programme, with numerous natural avenues to investigate. My appreciation to all the teachers, including Krissie Rocchi who co- ordinated the programme and to those who contributed to the activities. We appreciate the positive feedback which a number of you have given and we are pleased that the children had a happy time. This is due in large measure to the enthusiasm from the teachers, so I thank them once again for all their efforts. Dee’s Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to the final term of 2017.

It is hard to believe that another year has

almost passed by. The good news is that

there is much planned for the children in

the ELS for these last few months, which

should keep them captivated and

enthralled as they learn more about our

fascinating world. I trust that all our

families enjoyed a restful break over the

past couple of weeks. It was tremendous

to see the enthusiasm with which the

children returned to school this week. No

doubt they missed their teachers and

friends!

For those children who attended the

Holiday Care programme during the

break, an assortment of fun-filled

activities awaited them. The anticipation

of what would happen each day was

palpable, as they explored, were

introduced to all sorts of new

experiences, and got their creative juices

flowing. The Spring weather, although

sometimes changeable, provided the

perfect backdrop for the Holiday Care

programme, with numerous natural

avenues to investigate.

My appreciation to all the teachers,

including Krissie Rocchi who co-

ordinated the programme and to those

who contributed to the activities. We

appreciate the positive feedback which

a number of you have given and we are

pleased that the children had a happy

time. This is due in large measure to the

enthusiasm from the teachers, so I thank

them once again for all their efforts.

As we move into this term, it is worth

reminding ourselves of this quote from

Reggio Emilia founder, Loris

Malaguzzi: The wider the range of

possibilities we offer children, the more

intense will be their motivations and the

richer their experiences.

I know that the teachers have been hard

at work preparing a broad-ranging

programme for the term, and we trust

that the enjoyment and learning derived

from it by your child will make this

another special couple of months.

We look forward to a term filled with rich

experiences, for the teachers and

children alike. As always, I thank you for

your involvement in the education of

your child and for taking such a keen

interest in all that happens at the school.

We look forward to sharing many more

highlights with you during the coming

weeks!

Holiday Care Spring is in the air... Term 3 Holiday Care was a celebration

of Spring: backyard bugs, buzzing bees,

butterflies and nature walks, many of

the glorious things that Mother Nature

has to offer.

Bringing the farm to the city...

During Holiday Care, we were fortunate

to engage in many wonderful

experiences that had the children

excited and bouncing out of bed to

come to school. Above all, and without

a doubt it is safe to say that the „Henny

Penny Hatching Programme‟ was a

clear favourite being the most popular

amongst the children teachers and

parents.

„Henny Penny Hatching‟ is a wonderfully

designed programme that brings a little

piece of the country to the city, making

the magic of Mother Nature accessible

to all. This unique programme provided

us the opportunity to witness the start of

a life. We all watched as 10 little eggs

hatched in a specially designed

incubator, and then further observed

the hatched chicks at play in a large,

clear-sided brooding pen. From the

minute that first tiny chick stumbled out

of its shell, the children, teachers and

parents were all captivated.

There was a lot of excitement in the air

as the children waited in anticipation for

the chicks to arrive. Many of the

children were not familiar with the

chicken hatching programme and were

full of questions. Some of these questions

included; “What will they look like?, “Are

there real chickens coming?, “How do

they born from the egg?”, “How big are

they going to be?” and “Will they go

and live on the farm?”. This was only

some of the many questions that were

asked by the children during the two

weeks the chicks were with us. The

chicks became part of the family with

some of them even given names like;

fluffy, black, batty and cutie.

While looking back and reflecting on

the experience with the chicks some of

the Stage 4 children commented:

Hannah -“I thought they were going to

come all yellow and I didn‟t know there

were black ones, I have never touched

a chick before”.

Lexy - “They were really nice and fluffy”.

Alexandra - “Not all chicken‟s eggs are

for eating because some eggs have

little baby chickies in them. Then they

grow up into an adult and then they lay

an egg then the egg hatches and it

starts all over again, the circle of life”.

Jumping castle fun...

Jumping castle day is always a highlight

of the holiday care programme from

the very minute the children see Carlo

assembling it, right until he takes it

down.

Not only is it lots of fun but it encourages

social play and further develops and

extends gross motor coordination. The

children have a great time crawling,

climbing, jumping, sliding, running and

bouncing their way through the many

obstacles they meet along the way.

Sarah - “I love chasing Tim in the castle

and when he slides me down the big

slippery slide”

Evan - “I like jumping castle day so

much because it was so big and long. I

had really good fun”.

Holiday Care Spring is in the air... Rangers on the run...

Rangers on the Run is an educational

programme designed to teach children

about bugs. The show‟s emphasis is on

FUN with lots of interesting and funny

facts along with the opportunity to hold

and touch a variety of bugs. The

children interacted with stick insects,

spiders , millipede, just to name a few.

The children also enjoyed planting, a

pyjama party, a movie, a nature walk,

just to name a few.

We all had fun this Term 3 Holiday Care

celebrating Spring and many of the

glorious things that Mother Nature has to

offer.
