DECOMMISSIONING MINDSET
We need to think differently about delivering cost effective and predictable decommissioning projects
The closer we work together the more effective we are.
Safety risks – non operational.Do the same performance
standards apply?
The tax payer is paying and there is no production revenue.
In Planning, multi-skilled teams, execution and how we approach
Gains in the critical path have a significant impact. Flexible and agile
planning crucial.
In process and technology. We need to do things differently to achieve the
same outcome.

PRE CESSATION
Pre-Cessation is the first phase in the decommissioning process. Commencing 18 – 24 months prior to the cessation of production, Stork supports its clients in the delivery of late life and pre-decommissioning operations, including the provision of services to enable strategic planning for the piece small, Modular or Single Liftbreak down of a platform.
In this phase our expert teams complete inspection programmes, reinstatements and replacements, utilising a
range of Stork’s leading asset integrity capabilities and innovations from our key product lines.

Assessing the asset integrity of a platform is crucial
prior to decommissioning to ensure that only
necessary remedial work is undertaken to secure
the safety of the structure ahead of production
cessation, destruct and removal. At Stork, our multi-
disciplined personnel undertake thorough Platform
Surveys in order to effectively project manage the
decommissioning process from an asset integrity
perspective.
UPGRADES AND MODIFICATIONS

POST CESSATIONDecommissioning Asset Integrity Partner
The second phase of decommissioning commences once Oil & Gas production has ceased. The platform is down manned to a minimal level and the process of removing all hydrocarbons from the structure begins. In this Post-Cessation phase, Stork provides a range of specialist cleaning, decontamination and destruct services.
We support the operator in draining down the platform and commencing cutting activities in advance of
removal, while maintaining essential systems and accommodation.

HYDROCARBON FREE & REMOVAL
The final stage in the decommissioning process, the Hydrocarbon Free and Removal phase, takes up to two years to complete. During this period, the platform is assessed and confirmed to be Hydrocarbon Free and the final cutting of platform structures takes place. All essential Oil & Gas systems are wound down, leaving only emergency systems in operation.
Most crucially, in this phase the removal of the platform takes place, which involves complex lifting processes.

SPECIAL ACCESS SYSTEMS
In the Hydrocarbon Free and Removal phase, Stork’s
Special Access Systems are deployed to support
in the completion of platform removal, which
includes: Industrial Cleaning, UHP Cold Cutting,
Deconstruction, Inspection and Asbestos Removal.
Our clients benefit from our long standing expertise,
experienced personnel and state-of-the-art
equipment.
CLEANING AND DECONTAMINATION
Cleaning and Decontamination work scopes
continue into the third and final stage of the
decommissioning cycle. Stork supports in the
environmentally sound disposal of:
 Structure Pipework NORM Sand Asbestos
ULTRA HIGH PRESSURE COLD CUTTING
Ultra High Pressure (UHP) Cold Cutting plays a
significant role in the final preparations for platform
removal. Utilising remotely operated UHP water
abrasive techniques, UHP Cold Cutting is a specialist
service for cold cutting redundant steel and concrete.
The system offers a safer alternative to conventional
cutting as it is remotely operated and can be used
in hazardous areas, as there is no flame risk. During
the Hydrocarbon Free and Removal phase in the
decommissioning lifecycle its applications include:
Cutting decks/bulkheads Cutting Vessels Cutting Pipework
VACUUM WASTE REMOVAL
In the final phase of decommissioning, the removal
of waste takes place prior to platform destruct and
removal. Stork delivers Vacuum Waste Removal
services in order to drain down fluidised materials.
Our Vacuum Systems are compact, easy to operate,
ATEX compliant for Zone 2 hazardous areas and
certified to DNV 2.7 – 1. Waste is removed at a rate of
16 tonnes per hour and our systems have the ability
to lift up to 40 metres vertically.
MODIFICATIONS OR UPGRADES FOR DISCONNECTION
All modifications and upgrades are completed before
platform removal takes place. At this stage in the
decommissioning process, Stork’s multi-disciplined
teams undertake the final Mechanical, Inspection
and Industrial Cleaning work scopes, in addition to
cutting services for single lift/modular separation.
LIFTING AND TRANSPORT PLANS
Stork’s offshore teams are supported by our onshore

STORK’S INNOVATIONSStork’s decommissioning operations are supported by our award-winning innovations We seek new opportunities to expand our product and service offering through the development of new technologies that improve the health and safety of our workforce, the business and our client’s operations.
12
HOT BOLT CLAMP
The patented and multi-award winning Hot Bolt Clamp technology enables
the safe removal and replacement of corroded bolts on live four bolt flanged
connections with no disruption to ongoing production. This reduces risk,
helps assure integrity and improves the safety environment on an asset, while
simultaneously reducing operating costs and optimising productivity.
iBolt
Stork’s iBolt flange integrity management software improves the safety, efficiency
and cost effectiveness of bolting operations. The user friendly, web-based
system provides a complete auditable record of all activity carried out on flange
management workscopes from topside to subsea.
The software can be tailored for specific platforms or project requirements. One of
Stork’s key clients, a major UKCS operator, recently requested a bespoke version of the
software for use across its North Sea assets.
EXTENDED REACH BREATHING APPARATUS SYSTEM
ERBAS is designed for the quick and simple refill of empty cylinders during
evacuation from a confined space, typically an FPSO or platform leg. Escape
cylinders provide just 10 minutes of air, but can be challenging to replace. ERBAS
overcomes this by allowing the wearer to refill their empty cylinder in just 20
seconds, using one simple High Pressure (HP) connection.
SPECTRUM 120HD™ - HD CAMERA SYSTEM
The Spectrum 120HD™ pan, tilt & zoom camera provides crystal clear video in air
or underwater. It packs a high definition, 2 megapixel imager and 1080i resolution
with 120x zoom into a robust housing only 4 ¾” in diameter. With built in LED
lighting, continuous pan and a wide tilt range, maximum visibility is achieved.
The camera can be used for pipe, confined space, underwater, reactor vessel and
dam and lock inspections. It can also be deployed for foreign object search and
retrieval, robotics and remote tooling, underwater surveillance for operations or
security.
