HISTORY OF Advanced ChemicalOver 40 years ago Advanced Chemical Technologies, Inc. (ACT) provided the first silane based product to protect a bridge structure. This bridge was located near Tulsa, Oklahoma. From that time forward ACT has been a leader in the penetrating waterproofing market due to an innovative approach and a focus on this industry segment. Advanced Chemical was the first company to protect a nuclear power plant with a silane based product. Their products have been used world wide to protect hospitals, office buildings, universities, shopping malls, and many other concrete and masonry structures from the destructive forces of water, salt, ion, and chemical pollutant ingression. By protecting structures from this ingression, SIL-ACT® extends the lives of buildings. SIL-ACT® is resistant to fungal growth, dirt, grime and carbon intrusion on concrete and masonry, thus preserving the appearance of buildings and reducing maintenance costs. In 1982, U.S. Patent #4,342,796 Method for Inhibiting Corrosion of Internal Structural Members of Reinforced Concrete was issued to ACT.

CHEMISTRY OF SIL-ACT® PRODUCTSSIL-ACT® is an alkyltrialkoxy silane treatment that permanently weatherproofs concrete and masonry without forming a surface coating. Unlike conventional surface coatings and sealants, SIL-ACT® water repellent products, chemically bond to the substrate creating a unique, effective water repellent barrier. Once the SIL-ACT® has penetrated the surface, a rapid chemical reaction occurs, creating a deep hydrophobic layer. This reaction forms a one-way filter where salt, water, chloride ions and staining substances are repelled while vapor passes freely out of the concrete. This actually makes the concrete dryer with age, providing increased protection for reinforcing steel components.

PENETRATION OF SIL-ACT®

CHEMICALSEvidence of up to 1/2” penetrated layer is shown in this concrete test core when split and wetted.
