Did you know …..That poinsettas are toxic to cats?
Holiday Pet Safety Tip #1Avoid Chocolate!
.
Symptoms of chocolate toxicity include vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, seizures and can lead to cardiac arrest and
death.
What Makes chocolate toxic anyways???
The toxic compound in chocolate is called theobromine.
Theobromine affects the central nervous system and heart
Why isn’t chocolate toxic to humans?
Unlike dogs, humans are able to efficiently break down and eliminate the theobromine
Why is dark chocolate much more toxic than milk chocolate?
Because the darker the chocolate, the higher the
concentration of theobromine.Bakers chocolate contains 10x
the theobromine of milk chocolate
Holiday Pet Safety Tip #2
Keep holiday ornaments and tinsel out of your pets reach! They can cause serious harm if
ingested.
Xmas lights in dog stomach
Holiday Pet Safety Tip #3Beware of Bones!
The holiday turkey or chicken will leave a lot of tantalizing bones, but don’t feed them to your pet. Beware of steak bones, too. Small bones or bone chips can lodge in the throat,
stomach, and intestinal tract.
Holiday Pet Hazard #4
The Christmas Tree• Ingested pine needles can
puncture your pet’s intestines.
• Make sure your tree is well secured. If you have a tree-climbing cat or large dog with a happy tail, anchor the top of the tree to the wall
• Preservatives often used in water in a tree stand can cause gastric upset.
• Keep electrical cords out of reach to prevent electric shock from chewing
