MISSION STATEMENT

IITA International School aims to develop students who will create a better and more peaceful world

through respect, intercultural understanding and lifelong learning. We strive to prepare our students

for successful learning here and in schools around the world through an international educational

programme, with a comprehensive curriculum and rigorous assessment, in an environment which

promotes confidence, caring, and understanding.

From the Head Teacher Welcome to this week’s newsletter. It was a pleasure

for staff from the school to be able to participate in

some of the R4D activities this week. I particularly

enjoyed the Teambuilding Programme. It was great

that Mrs. Okorie and Mr. Odukoya were able to form

part of the judging team.

This week the school is beginning to take shape for

the December production. The decorations are going

up around the school. The ancillary staff have also

been busy preparing the stage in the hall. I would like

to thank all staff and students for their work. The

tickets for the December Production will be available

at the school office from Monday 25th November. You

can contact Laide directly on [email protected] for

further information.

The children in Playgroup presented their Celebration

of Learning this week. It was a super event with many

parents in attendance. It is amazing to see the

progressionin the children even during the short time

they have been in school. Their confidence in speaking

out and ability to explain what the different parts of

the body are used for was great to see.

Enjoy the weekend and make

sure you get your December

Production tickets early!!

New Report Card

During the 2018/19 academic session a committee

comprising of parents, teachers and students was

set up to review the report card. This formed part

of the school’s journey to IB PYP Authorisation

The aim of the review of the reporting system was

to ensure reports:

Provide detailed feedback to

parents/students about a child’s learning

journey in each term.

Reflect the five elements of the Primary

Years Program (PYP)

Align with other IB and international

schools globally for easy recognition and

acceptance.

Meet the standards and practices of the

International Baccalaureate Organisation

[IBO]

This process was collaborative with wonderful

ideas from teachers, parents and students.

Following the workshop with parents during

Community Day, on the 15th November 2019, a

workshop was held in the school hall for students

to understand the report card and why it has

changed. Grade 6 students wrote reports on the

workshop which you can find later in the

newsletter.

To support parents in using the new Report Card

effectively with their children we will make your

child’s Report Card available from 1.00pm on

Wednesday 11th December from the school office.

There will be an opportunity to sign-up for a

meeting with your child’s class teacher on

Thursday/Friday afternoon to discuss any aspects

of the report. Alternatively, parents will still be

able to pick up the report card from the class

teacher after the End of Term Assembly on Friday

if they are unable to collect it earlier.

The new Report Card will also include a feedback

section where both parents and children can add

their reflections on the report and the term. This

should be returned to the school at the start of

Term 2.

Breakable items We would like to bring to the notice of parents that

breakable plates/bowls/flasks are not appropriate for

children in school. Of particular concern are items

made of glass.

Colour Day In order to help the younger children in school

identify different colours, each Thursday we have

Colour Day where everyone wears something of that

week’s chosen colour. This week’s colour was PINK,

and we had a great variety of clothing.

Next week’s colour is WHITE

Afternoon Clubs Clubs come to an end on Friday, 29th November. We would like to thank all the staff and parents for their hard work during the term.
